Make Your Own Kind of Music!

Thursday, December 10, 2009

If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.

Take Charge!

Wednesday, December 09, 2009

At this time of year, many people relinquish control of their lives to people who have no authority to take over. People are slaves to retailers who tell us when and where to shop. To business associates who tell us which holiday parties to attend. To well meaning relatives who tell us which traditions we have to uphold even though they have become meaningless. We wander aimlessly through the mall and around the buffet table at the get together, eating stuff that is not good for us and which we don't really like.

STOP THE MADNESS! Decide what it is that you really have to do this holiday season andput them on your calendar. Next, decide what it is you would like to do. Put them on your calendar. Forget about everything else! Enjoy!

De-Stress Your Holidays

STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY TIPS

1. Celebrate your heritage during the holidays.

2. Prepare an authentic Thanksgiving meal, leaving off the rich desserts there were none historically. Really give thanks around the table instead of sitting down to "stuff."

3. Practice re-gifting sharing items that have been personally meaningful to you with your loved ones.

4. Include an Epiphany celebration and re-create the Magi's gifts to the baby Jesus some time AFTER his birth celebration. Invite friends.

5. Create a new tradition such as singing carols at a hospice, preparing gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child, or gifting an animal through Heifer International.

6. Stop gift exchanges before people shop and ask if you can spend time with them instead, inviting them for a cup of tea or coffee. Let them know you are interested in them. The gift of your time is the most valuable thing you have to give!

7. Invite neighbors to attend a church function such as an Advent Festival or Christmas Eve service.

8. Use your imagination, then make the decision to have a calmer season!

Holidays, Chocolate, and other stuff

Monday, December 07, 2009

Christmas at my house produces more chocolate than Easter. It is a good thing that chocolate is a cancer preventative so there is some benefit from my overindulgence.

The best advice I have gotten regarding chocolate is to buy only the best chocolate. If you are going to go off the grid and eat chocolate, it should at least be good chocolate and not that waxy tasting cheap stuff.

I find that the really good chocolate (and for me, that is milk chocolate, not dark chocolate, preferably with hazelnuts in it), satisfies my taste buds -- with the not-so-good waxy kind, I tend to eat more, part of my brain keeps thinking that surely it'll morph into what my mouth is looking for.

The darkest chocolate you can find is best for the heart and for cancer. They are even saying that cocoa powder - dark, dark is the ultimate one to use.

Good luck with it all.

Oh, I too love chocolate. Never did much as kid, but as an adult, it is a little bit of heaven, isn't it?

A Lazy Sunday

Sunday

Nothing on the schedule.

Maybe some television. Maybe some football. Maybe a nap.
