Goal Attained!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

I have attained my goal of losing five pounds this year. Now I move on to my next goal which is to lose five pounds! I figure five pounds is easily attainable and if I have eleven goals to lose five pounds, I can achieve my goal and move on to the next one a whole lot easier than I can lose fifty-five pounds. only 4.2 pounds to lose until I achieve my current goal of losing five pounds.

Another Week Gone

Friday, January 09, 2009

Another week has gone and with it some more pounds. Just as a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, the loss of fifty pounds begins with one ounce. By the inch it's a cinch but by the yard it sure is hard. I'll stick with the inches.

Sloshing Through Life

Thursday, January 08, 2009

My daughter-in-law swears I was a camel in a former lifetime. Whatever I am drinking, I drink a lot! During the times when I am behaving myself, I drink water, coffee, unsweetened tea and Crystal Light. When I become careless, somehow diet coke, coke zero, Budweiser Select and Budweiser find their way into my life. It's amazing how even Diet Sodas can make a difference in one's ability to lose weight. I track my fluid intake almost religiously and it is hovering around 20-24 cups per day. If I sat down and you were to put 1-1/2 gallons of water in front of me and said "drink it", I would reply "you're crazy" but that is the amount of fluid intake I have, spread over the 16 hours I am awake. At that rate, it's only about 12 oz per hour which doesn't sound like that much after all.

Lucky Seven

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

The seventh day of the new year is upon us. With the exception of an unexplained but minor upward blip yesterday morning, the scale has been creeping downward. I know the guru's all say to weigh no more often that once every five days but I enjoy seeing the .1 and .2 daily movements. I have found that as long as I don't let the occasional .1 or .2 upward blip get me discouraged, the daily motivation is helpful. It has become part of the "first thing in the morning" routine. If I do it every morning, then I do it every morning. When I try for a five or seven day rotation, sometimes I forget and then have to weigh in at a different time. I found it to be more consistent to weight at the same time in the same attire every time. First thing in the morning is the only time when the time and the attire are constant.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Here it is already, the Twelfth Day of Christmas or Epiphany or Wise Men's Day. It's a good day to stop and take stock. In the first five days, I have managed to wean myself off Christmas cookies and the candies which have been spread all over the house since Thanksgiving. Beer and diet soda have given way to unsweetened iced tea and Crystal Light. A glass of water or Crystal Light has replaced the things I used to munch on. So far, I don't feel at all deprived and that is the secret. True happiness is only a few pounds away. Rather than trying to lose 50 pounds, I am only going to lose five. I am, however, going to do it ten times in a row.
