Vrooooom Vrooooom - Part Deux

Went to Atlanta Motor Speedway yesterday. My daughters were really impressed when we exited the tunnel and were right in the middle of the racetrack.

NASCAR cars do not have doors, you have to climb in the window like the Dukes of Hazzard. That was an adventure. Anyway, they got me strapped in and off we went. Coming out of the pit you stay down on the flat until you build up some speed and then on the backstretch you are out on the track proper. The banking on the turns makes the majority of the g-force down but you are still getting pushed toward the outside of the turns. As I expected, 180 mph is fast. I was on a ride-along with a driver who knew how to drive. The track was littered with drivers who had paid to drive a car and were poking along at 120-140 mph. Passing them was a rush! Three laps passed pretty quickly, about two minutes but it was marvelous.

A great Fathers' Day present. So much better than a tie.

Today I cash in the Father's Day present my kids got me back in June. A three lap ride around Atlanta Motor Speedway in a Nascar Race Car. They say it goes about 170-180 mph. That's pretty fast in a jet airplane (take off and landing speed about 150 mph). It has got to be really fast when you are that close to the ground and that close to the outside wall on the race track. Oh well, only time will tell.
