Lucky Seven

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

The seventh day of the new year is upon us. With the exception of an unexplained but minor upward blip yesterday morning, the scale has been creeping downward. I know the guru's all say to weigh no more often that once every five days but I enjoy seeing the .1 and .2 daily movements. I have found that as long as I don't let the occasional .1 or .2 upward blip get me discouraged, the daily motivation is helpful. It has become part of the "first thing in the morning" routine. If I do it every morning, then I do it every morning. When I try for a five or seven day rotation, sometimes I forget and then have to weigh in at a different time. I found it to be more consistent to weight at the same time in the same attire every time. First thing in the morning is the only time when the time and the attire are constant.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Here it is already, the Twelfth Day of Christmas or Epiphany or Wise Men's Day. It's a good day to stop and take stock. In the first five days, I have managed to wean myself off Christmas cookies and the candies which have been spread all over the house since Thanksgiving. Beer and diet soda have given way to unsweetened iced tea and Crystal Light. A glass of water or Crystal Light has replaced the things I used to munch on. So far, I don't feel at all deprived and that is the secret. True happiness is only a few pounds away. Rather than trying to lose 50 pounds, I am only going to lose five. I am, however, going to do it ten times in a row.

You gotta be vigilant

Monday, January 05, 2009

First day back at work and the local restaurant is actually helping me out. The lunch special today was shrimp and scallops over rice with a mango based salsa. That's a whole lot better than a burger and fries and it was cheaper too! It also tasted a whole lot better than salad even with the meat added. If you call the restaurant before hand, they will even tell you what today's specials are. Subway is always a good standby and there is strict portion control. Portion Control was Jared's big secret, not the fact that it was Subway.

Crystal Light

Sunday, January 04, 2009

If you have any money to put in the stock market, move it from Anheuser Busch to Crystal Light. With the advent of the new year, I have changed my drink of choice from Budweiser Select to Crystal Light Iced tea and Lemonade or mix them together to create either an Arnold Palmer or an Uptown depending on where you came up. Average over a gallon a day just for me. It doesn't even seem like drinking water!

Coming Down from the Holidays

Saturday, January 03, 2009

The hardest part about6 the holidays is that the house is full of Christmas cookies and candies. When the holidays are over, the goodies are escorted out of the house. Quitting cookies and candy cold turkey isn't easy but it works a whole lot better for me than cutting back because like potato chips, cookies and candy fall into the "you can't eat just one" category. Rice cakes and veggies have taken their place as something to do with idle hands.
