As we stop to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we might be free, let us also remember those who have placed themselves in harms way and are currently defending our freedom.
Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 but it wasn't the 100th race because the race was suspended during World War II. Professional Baseball stopped playing during World War II, giving rise to "A League of Their Own", the All American Girls Professional Baseball league. During World War II, everyone at home was affected by the war, with rationing of war supplies and foodstuffs and women taking jobs formerly held by the men who were fighting (ie: Rosie the Riveter)
Beginning in Viet Nam and continuing through Somalia, Granada, Gulf War I and the Current Conflict, there is a war going on but at home life goes on.
For just a few minutes this afternoon, or just for a minute, stop and say a word for our fallen service-people and those currently defending our freedom.
