Loneliness

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

We had an electric storm which took out my computer at home. My office computer went off line during another storm on Friday so my Blackberry couldn't hook up with it. It snowed Sunday and monday was a lost cause getting to work because Atlantans don't do snow real well. When I got there, it took a while to get the computer up and the Blackberry synched. All in all I was out of touch from mid afternoon on Friday until about the same time Monday. Somehow we got along without computers, e-mail, instant messaging etc before we had it but having been exposed to it, it is missed. Went by the repair shop on the way home with the laptop from home. It is four years old. It needs a battery ($100.00) and a power supply ($100.00) and they will only charge $70.00 to look at it and tell me if it's worth repairing. I decided to let the computer rest in peace and I will replace it.

Fabulous Friday

Friday, February 27, 2009

Fridays are nice days. people tend to be nicer on Friday. they think because it is the end of the work week, that is reason to feel better about the day and themselves. i am a beneficiary of their beneficience. While I do not subscribe to the TGIF syndrone, I am more than happy to benefit from everyone else's good mood.

Thursday

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Today started rough. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are "Boot Camp" at the gym. Thursdays are typically rougher than Tuesdays. Today was no exception. With fortitude and stamina, I managed to survive the entire session. Fortunately, I have learned to recognize my limitations and modify the rigors of the exercise routine to avoid hurting myself. The benefits may not come as quickly as they would when I was younger and exercised more intensely but I don't have to take 3-7 days off while my body heals so slow and steady wins the race.

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

And so begins the season of Lent when people "give up" stuff and act smug about doing so. i have always found it to be more rewarding to do something positive for the Lenten season and then you can continue the good habit beyond the Lenten period. I have observed that people who "give up" something for Lent tend to go right back to doing whatever it was they gave up as soon as Easter passes, providing they made it that long, and that when they recommence, they do so with abandon and twice the indulgence as before.

Fat Tuesday

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

That's a horrible name for a day, especially for us Spark People but that is what it is called. Then again, maybe it is appropriate as it is a day devoted to unbridled excesses. A good thing about being a Sparker is that good habits are developed and like bad habits, they are not easy to break. Mardi Gras will be just another Tuesday with sensible eating, minimal drinking, if any, and physical activity to take off the edge.
