Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

And so begins the season of Lent when people "give up" stuff and act smug about doing so. i have always found it to be more rewarding to do something positive for the Lenten season and then you can continue the good habit beyond the Lenten period. I have observed that people who "give up" something for Lent tend to go right back to doing whatever it was they gave up as soon as Easter passes, providing they made it that long, and that when they recommence, they do so with abandon and twice the indulgence as before.

Fat Tuesday

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

That's a horrible name for a day, especially for us Spark People but that is what it is called. Then again, maybe it is appropriate as it is a day devoted to unbridled excesses. A good thing about being a Sparker is that good habits are developed and like bad habits, they are not easy to break. Mardi Gras will be just another Tuesday with sensible eating, minimal drinking, if any, and physical activity to take off the edge.

Lightening

Monday, February 23, 2009

Lightening struck a tree in my yard Wednesday night. It blew out my Cable TV, the modem on my computer and the transformer plugged into the computer. Luckily, these items served as surge protectors and the lightening did not effect my televisions or computer. I was, however, out of touch and without television pending the cable TV repairman's showing up "between 8 and 11 on Sunday morning" since that was the earliest they could schedule me. Now the TV is back in operation and a new modem is enroute. You don't realize how much you rely on being on line until you aren't.

Fabulous Friday

Friday, February 20, 2009

Fridays are great because other people put so much stock in the TGIF mentality. While that is a bad mindset, it sure does make them all a whole lot easier to get along with. Abraham Lincoln said it had been his observation that people were just about as happy as they made up their minds to be. Surrounding yourself with happy people makes it easier for you to be happy so when everyone else is in the TGIF mode it is easier for the rest of us to keep upbeat

Baldness Gone Rampant

Thursday, February 19, 2009

My daughter-in-law is going through her second round of chemo in her continuing battle against cancer. Yesterday, she admitted that her hair would not remain with her throughout this ordeal this time either and she and her daughters had the ceremonial cutting of her hair.
My other son and his sons decided they would support their sister-in-law / aunt and they had their heads shorn also. When I returned to the office this afternoon, no body had any hair!
