Too Much Food

Monday, July 01, 2013

I visited my mom yesterday. She's a great cook and served chicken salad and hot fudge sundaes for lunch. I splurged. I can't tell you the last time I had Mom's homemade hot fudge sauce. OMG. The best.

Then we went to a movie, and I had popcorn. Movie was great, btw. The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. We all laughed so hard!

So I'm up a few pounds today. Maybe just bloated from the popcorn? I'm hoping a day of good eating again will drop the extra pounds in a hurry.

I'll also run tonight. 2.5 miles is the goal for today.

Those "few" pounds are water weight and will be gone soon. Mom couldn't serve 7000 calorie sundaes, right? LOL (although my DH can make some that look like Mt Vesuvius)

  You can splurge occasionally.

I am sure it is due to water weight.

I'm glad you had a nice visit with you Mom. That's the most important thing to take from yesterday. That pound or two will be right back off, but the memory of that wonderful time with you Mom will last a lifetime.

Yeah, you're probably just bloated. We don't gain fat that fast! I ate everything in sight yesterday, very high fat but not too bad on carbs, and was down from a few days ago. That was a relief! Hang in there!

Sounds like you had a great day with your mom. You need to cherish that memory and forget about the food! Concentrate on the good day you had and just get back on track. No beating yourself up!

You'll run it off - just drink your water and get back on track. The indulgence is fine now and then. Gosh, wish I could run again. Nothing quite like it...

Sound like you had a great day. Glad you enjoyed.

Remember the day fondly and don't worry about a little overindulgence!
(it's the popcorn)

I couldn't tell you how many years since my last hot fudge sundae!

I'm looking forward to watching The Heat.

Two blogs in one day?!?!? I can't help myself. I just have to share this.

I am sticking to my 3 weekly runs, and since I couldn't do it yesterday, I needed to do it today. Our morning was pretty full, and then we had lunch. So I intended to give myself time to digest and then go to the Y to run. My Saturdays tend to get away from me a bit... As I walked into the Y, I noticed the sign about their summer hours. They were closing in 30 minutes, and the area with the treadmills was already closed! Ugh!

Oh well, I figured. I will run outside.

A friend mentioned she wanted to start running -- outside. I called her at the last minute and told her I was about to go if she wanted to join me for the first mile around our neighborhood (and then I was continuing on to meet my goal of 5k for today). She said sure! So we did it. We alternated walking, and she did GREAT for her first time out. I was impressed.

It started to rain the last half mile or so -- a light drizzle at first and then pouring rain. She went home and I continued on. Oh boy, was it coming down!!! I kept going. What's a little rain? No problem!

I finished my 5k (actually 3.25 miles)! I am drenched to the bone and about to jump in a nice warm shower. I just had to share. It's so funny how I used to make excuses -- any excuse would do! Now...... It would take something MAJOR MAJOR to deter me. I am DETERMINED!

Thanks for reading and thanks for all the supportive comments on my blogs and teams and status updates lately. I really do appreciate them -- and YOU!

100 Days of Motivation

Saturday, June 29, 2013

I am all about goal-setting and more importantly goal-ACHIEVING! This concept of really dedicating myself to achieving my goals in this 100-day window is PUMPING ME UP!

My 100-day challenge consists of:

#1 - Stay alcohol-free

#2 - Run 3 days a week with a goal of 100 miles

#3 - Lose the rest of my blubber (10# or thereabouts)

The weight goal is a little vague mainly because I'm only 8 pounds from my goal weight, but honestly I think I have more to lose than that. So I'll see how I feel and how I look when I lose another 8 pounds and reset the goal if I need to.

I'm 10 days into the challenge and doing great. I feel so motivated to do this! I hear Starship singing: NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW!!!

Alcohol is something that really packs on the pounds. That's a good idea.

Keep at it. I wish I had stuck to it when I only had 10 pounds to lose. My weight just kept creeping up and now it's a lot to lose. I'll try to follow your blog. If I can stick with it with you it will help.

I'm actually try to have a day one attitude because I'm just living life one day at a time.

Day 7 ~ Hurrah!

Day 7 AF. I feel like a superhero. emoticon

Some random bits for the day:

I think I'm going to get the Samsung S4. I didn't do a ton of research, but from the small amount I did and the advice I've received, it seems like a good phone for me.

For the second time this summer, I have a mosquito bite on my ear. The first time, it was actually IN my ear -- so awfully itchy and sore. Now it's on the outside and my whole ear is swollen and red. Very annoying!!

I'm planning a trip. Or, I should say, I need to get busy planning a trip. Or maybe I could try being spontaneous just this once. Hmmmmmm.....

That's it! Have a FAB day, all you Sparkers!

Smart Phone Conundrum

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

I am considering upgrading from a plain old cell phone to a smart phone. Any recommendations? I'd appreciate any advice!

Today is day 6 AF. I know now that this is my path to losing the rest of this weight. I'm already down a few pounds.

I had an android (samsung) for the last 2.5 yrs and it was very glitchy. Also there weren't all the apps on it I really wanted. I just switched to an iPhone and I am in love.

I have a Samsung which has been just fine for me and I like the bigger screen but I'm going to switch to an iPhone when, hopefully the 4s model drops it's price in the fall when there is a new iPhone release. Why? The apps. I have an ipad and I use it all the time and There is an app called Bento where you can design your own data bases. This way you don't have to buy apps you can't modify for each use you need.

The databases can synch between the ipad and the iPhone and a Mac if I had one.

I just find there are more apps I am interested in for Apple than Android although my Samsung phone was just fine otherwise.

I have a Samsung and am quite happy with it. My only issue with it is that it is almost too big for my small hands. My next one will be smaller

What do you want? A simple phone that is very user friendly yet there are many things you can't do with it and it's over priced? iPhone

Phone you can max out technology and feature wise and is really limitless? Droid

Something in between? Samsung

I love my iPhone. I have apps to meditate, apps to exercise, and can even use my phone as a pedometer (except that I have a Fit Bit). Of course, I'm also known as "Gadget Granny" - and I tend to nerd over all things tech. Unless you are tech savvy or plan to really learn, stick to a simple phone.

EMILY0724 6/25/2013 9:09AM

Your choice depends on your expectations and your technical savvy. I tried an android phone first, but after a week, I was still having trouble remembering how to do things with it--like make a call. I returned it and got an Iphone. No instructions needed. However, I know people who are tech geeks that love android phones and would never purchase a "crap-ple" product. Hope this helps.
