First, Happy Independence Day to all my US Spark Friends!
Second, a quick update on my 100-day challenge: Day 15 AF! After today's run, I'll be at 12.96 miles.
Now, the biking story. Yesterday I biked with my son and his friend on one of our local bike trails to a small town 15 miles north of here. It's been a tradition for our family every year since the boys were little. We bike up there and eat lunch at this wonderful hotel with a view, and they serve walnut burgers, which I am personally in love with. So part-way through the ride if you're losing steam, you start thinking about what you're going to eat when you get there!
We made good time, but honestly on the ride there and on the ride back, my legs just had no more energy the last few miles. It wasn't that I was sore or panting -- I just ran out of steam!
Still, I was thinking it's funny how things change. Years ago when we did this ride, I thought of it as a big, major, all-day deal. Major exercise! I figured I'd be wiped out for the day. And I usually was. I'd take it easy the rest of the day and probably even take a nap.
This time though, I smugly thought to myself, wow, I am so much more fit now! I don't feel exhausted. I can go home and carry on with my day. I had plans to go to a concert last night.
We got home, and I drank a lot of water. I made a cake. Gradually I realized I AM BEAT! I sat down and watched some TV. I attempted napping several times, but I guess I wasn't that tired.
So much for my smug thoughts!
It was a great day, a great ride, and great exercise -- oh and a GREAT meal!
