My Success - Water

Sunday, February 06, 2011

I HAVE drunk 64 ounces of water a day for TWO weeks. I've done it and it is do-able for me. I used to think 5-6 glasses was all that I could do, but I was making excuses and not even trying. I know now by monitoring the amount of water I am drinking, I can consume 64 ounces each day. The words I used for myself were, "I can't have a 4 ounce glass of wine after dinner if I wasn't done with my water." I found out that after the water, I didn't really want the wine. I had a glass of wine 2 times this week and I am being careful that it is 4 ounces. I believe the monitoring of my water has begun to make the scale numbers move again. emoticon

I know what to get you for your birthday...an anchor!! So you don't float away!! You are doing great Joyce! So glad you found a yoga tape you like! When you need a change and are more comfortable with the positions go to Gaiam.com and in DVD's get Susan Deasons's Yoga for Weight loss...she is calm and excellent also! The work out is about 45 min. but you determine how hard it is for you. Body and breathe awareness are really important in yoga! You keep going !! emoticon

That's awesome!!! I'm still struggling my way up to the 8 glasses. I've gone from my pre-Sparkpeople 0 glasses per day (Seriously!!! I only drank Coke and coffee!) to 4 glasses per day and now I'm up to 6. I'll get to the 8+ glasses eventually. Don't want to totally freak the old kidneys out you know. emoticon

The scale numbers aren't moving in leaps or bounds, but moving down at about 1/2 pound a week. I will be starting a 15 week NC program called Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less. (I have adopted these words as my mantra.) I think I need a boost with guidance, group support around me, although I love the Sparks support, sometimes I need people. I have my support team with husband, sisters and friend, but I think this will be good for me. So, for 15 weeks I'll continue with my Sparks monitoring and involvement but will add in a weekly meeting.

Thoughts

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

I have revamped my small steps towards eating smart. I'm going to be conscientious about my water. Now, I'm filling a 64 oz pitcher in the morning and making sure it is empty by night. When I fill my bottle for work, I fill it from that pitcher. If I drink another water at work, I bring the empty bottle home, and refill it from the pitcher.

I am a sweets eater, usually chocolate but now my mood is more towards cookies. I was eating a sweet after lunch and after dinner. I decided that I will only have one sweet a day with a calorie content of 100 calories. So, about 1/8 cup of M&Ms is 100 cal., so if I want my favorite candy, I can do it.

I am also watching my fruits and veggies. I am VERY good with fruits and only sometimes okay with veggies. I can easily eat 5 fruits a day, but I am trying to make sure that at least 2 of the 5 are veggies. My husband, who usually does the cooking since he is retired, and I, who still works full time, are cooking at home 5 days out of 7, much better than a year ago.

So, with my goal of eat smart, move more, and weigh less, I was doing well with the move more, and now I'll be conscientious about the nutrition, too.

Progress

The scale number has moved, hurray! It was 6 weeks of playing with the same three pounds. I consciously drank my 8 glasses of water last week and I know that made a difference. I wasn't so snack food hungry. Also, I changed the location of where I do my outside walks. I think I had been doing the same walk for too long. So I am still doing a 3+ mile walk but it has caused my legs to ache in a different area.

I decided that in my yearly goal of eat smart, move more, weigh less... I wasn't specific enough with the breakdown of the eat smart part. I broke down the exercise into manageable, doable, and small steps, but didn't do the same with the food. So, today I am going to edit the steps I am taking to eat smart and drinking the 8 glasses of water is definitely going to be part of it. I need to post my new changes in front of my face today. emoticon I'm ready to jump start my program.
