Celebration of a friend and his MAJOR mile marker on his journey.....
here's the setting:
ToddJames is a friend! He was 1 lbs away from being OVERWEIGHT, saying goodbye to Obese forever! Well....I threw it out to our team that they MIGHT want to encourage and push Todd this week because if he didn't make it to Overweight, there would be a physical challenge for the entire team in his honor. Fair enough, right...all it good fun ofcourse! WELL, this brought a stir to the forum as you can imagine, cheering for Todd, pushing , etc...THEN Todd opens HIS mouth and says something like, "You can count on me team, I will lose this pound, AND when I do, Jerome has to UP his Sunday morning run by 20%"!!! WHAT WAS HE THINKING??? Oh OK....all in good fun...I can do this I thought. Then Larry(the FlaBeachBum and Mari (MGriffith32) and Nicholas (absolutezer0) all jumped on board with me, extending their Sunday runs as well, HOW COOL IS THIS!! A friendly challenge tossed out that has the team up and moving....I LOVE THIS I thought to myself!
OK.....Friday Morning Todd PROUDLY announces that he's no longer obese and we all celebrate with him, that's a big day really, I remember my day when that happened!
SO here we are on Sunday Morning......I got up and I DID IT IN CELEBRATION.......

So the gym had a back to school bash today that was done right!
Potluck could have been more healthy, but you know how that goes. Fried Potato wedges, fried chicken, cookies galore, chips, there was a fair amount of salads, pasta salads(I made the BEST on there!!), sandwiches, etc. I didn't do too badly I don't think.
I LOVE these events because its' OPEN GYM and the parents get to play on the equipment if we want! WELL GUESS WHAT...I WANT!!
I got on the Trampoline for probably 45 minutes and had a blast. The girl on the tramp next to me about fell off hers when she saw me to a backflip! I laughed!! She looks at me and said "but you're old" I laughed again, harder! I'll show her I thought. So.....she would do a trick and I'd follow her and do it also. She complained about my back tuck verse my back layout, whatever little girl...I DID IT!! HAHAHA I did back flip after back flip, and a few front flips too. (front scare the pee water out of me) I did NOT get a pic of the trampoline worth keeping, sorry.
Then I moved to HIGH BAR!! I only did this for a little bit, because the last time I got a HUGE rip in my hand bleed everywhere and hurt for a week or better! I was trying to swing on the bar and do a back flip into the foam pit below. Well, I never made it around, but I tried! It appears that it's really harder than it looks.
I had my 6 year old take this pic on my phone just to prove was there.
Tons of fun.......burned some calories.....hung out with some friends.....not a bad day at all!!
APPENDIX.....I WILL get video of me doing a backflip!

So I went to the chiropractor today about my sciatic nerve issue. I pretty much know WHEN and WHERE I hurt it, but I wonít go into that.(Gotta protect the innocent) I admit that I donít visit the Chiro much and I had to be talked into going. (Thanks Michelle for you and your husbands thought and advice!!) Nice office, fairly typically first visit, sign a million documents, get a quick tour, put in a room and wait. Spoke with Victor the Dr. Assistant first, question after question, poke here, pull there, bend me this way, then that way, and oh by the way, does this hurt, WELL DUH!! It wasnít too bad really, only everything he did on the right side hurt, left side, no issues. So Victor leaves and Iím alone again, playing paper toss on my iPhone, HA.
Here comes the Dr. McCormick. Typical meet and greet making some small talk about the information that Victor had taken. We got to the question about weight gain/loss. Heck, the question was there, so I answered it honestly. He asked how Iíve managed to lose 93lbs since December?! I told him that there is the website that I use called SparkPeople.com. Iíll have you know he wrote it down!! I talked about the fact that there are meal plans available, the stages of the diet, nutritional tracking, fitness tracking, etc. We talked about the teams and the importance of that, the forums and support that is offered from member to member. Dr. McCormick starts to smile and said he was just 10 minutes before talking to a client about their nutrition, or lack there of. He spoke of the training that his office staff is doing to help others with full health and wellness. I started smiling and interjected that I am now passionate about helping others these days. He clapped his hands and said he loves that word! PassionÖ. Dr mentions the fact that heís holding classes at his office twice a week now on wellness, would I be willing to share my story at a meeting, well, anybody that knows me, knows I said YES right away. I then showed him my before pic and his jaw hit the floor!
In the long run, we spoke A LOT about SparkPeople and the great things SP does every day. The Dr. mentioned that he thinks he and I will be friends for a long time due to our focus being so similar. I will be back at his office on Monday evening to give my testimony and spread the SPARK!!
I had to share this story because I left his office feeling GREAT and even MORE PROUD of SparkPeople than I was before.
Iíve said it before and Iíll say it againÖÖ..I LOVE SPARKPEOPLE
(btw - I'm doing therapy now for the sciatic issue)

Today was a scheduled 6 mile run, I honestly wasn't sure I could make it that far, so I set out to run as far as I could and be happy with that.

August 14th, 2010 - Watermelon Run 5K race, Ft. Worth, TX
The day started at 5:20 when the alarm woke me and yes I was nervous, full of energy, ready for a good run. I started getting the family around because today, they were all going to support and watch me run. Meant alot to have them there too! We left around 6:15am for the park and arrived around 7:15ish, find a place to park and off to registration.
Now....we all know that I'm a rookie to all this and this is only my third straight up race. (I've ran two extreme races too, the Warrior Dash and the Caveman Crawl)...but anyway...I say that because I've already learned, ya gotta roll with the punches. I see my friend Brian and his wife Ruth walking over the hill so I walk to meet them. Ruth didn't recognize me, I LOVE THAT! We walk and talk up to the registration table, the guy in front of me is paying with cash. I walked up and said "I pre paid on line". The guy looks at me....looks around and yells "Did anybody pull the online registration list?" On the inside, I was cracking up!! How low key can you get I thought. The guy finally looks back at me and said, just sign here and go ahead. So that's what we did! THEN they were saying we were using the wrong racing bibs. In the end, we had the right bibs and we were all set. My wife and daughters found a place to sit near the start/finish line, we visited with friends and got ready to roll.
My walkmeter (also does runs) didn't work today for some reason which ticks me off, but oh well, I'll live. I had to learn to use my sportsline watch to keep my pace, rather than the voice on my walkmeter telling me where I was at. Anyway.....it was a very flat course down through the park, turn around and run along the trinity river a while, then literally turn around and reverse your footsteps. At the 2 mile mark I kicked up a notch, which was too early honestly. I kicked it for about the last mile and about died on the last .1 of a mile. Did I mention it was probably about 90 degree's already when we ran, alot of the course was in the sun. I felt absolutely great about today's run!! I believe I'm dealing with sciatic nerve pain and that can be REALLY painful when it's flaring up, this has been kicking my butt all week!
My time was 28:12 and I was 3rd place in my age group!! I got a medal and everything!!! WOO HOO
There was also a FUN relay, that we didn't do. One person carried a watermelon 1/2 mile down and the other carried the watermelon back. That was pretty funny actually, I can't imagine carrying a watermelon that far while trying to run!!
I'd like to say thank to everybody for the AMAZING support that ya'll give me. The energy is amazing and I can nearly FEEL that energy when I'm out there pushing myself to be the best person I can be. One year ago, I would NEVER have thought about doing this, now, I can't WAIT to my next race!!
Am I really becoming a runner????
Here are the my four friends who ran today:
Here I am with my first race medal:
Next race.....Dallas Running Club 5mile breakfast bash Sept 5th....I HOPE to see ALOT of the DallasSpark team there!!!!!
