My week in review

Sat. Sept 11 – didn’t feel very well at all still. I did manage to get out and buy new running shoes and Garmin forerunner 305, eating wasn’t horrible but there was NO exercise.

Sun. Sept 12 – still didn’t feel very well at all. However I DID attempt a run because I was anxious to try the new shoes and Garmin. Here is a link that run. connect.garmin.com/activity/48853423
?sms_ss=email
It was a fairly BAD run to say the least!! It was REALLY hot!!

Monday Sept 13. Felt better. We (wife and I) started the phase 2 of RevAbs! GREAT series, I recommend it. I am seeing great transformations in my body as I work through that program. I also did week 4 day 1 of the 100 Push Up challenge

Tuesday Sept 14th – Day 2 of Phase 2 Revabs complete and it kicked my tail!! Felt GREAT though as I burned a bunch of calories and build some muscles!! After work I went for a run through the neighborhood. Here is my Tuesday run link connect.garmin.com/activity/49051735
?sms_ss=email
This was a decent run I think and felt great afterward.

Wednesday Sept 15th – Holy smokes RevAbs kicked it again today. Strength and Endurance workout that about killed me!! AHHHHHH the calories were melting away though which felt fantastic! I also ran 4.25 on the treadmill after work. I way over ate as we went to eat fajitas for dinner.

Thursday Sept 16th – I slacked this morning and DID NOT work out. Not proud of that, but I was exhausted and somewhat sore so I did not get out of bed at 4:30am to workout. Yes, I felt guilty for not doing it. I had a really rough day with work, loads of stress and pressure due to issues we were having. Went to open house for my 5th grader and was blown away by my DD’s teachers!! Wonderful ladies who LOVE HER!! Gave loads of compliments and called her a leader and trend setter in the classroom! Due to the stress of the day, I REALLY wanted to run. Didn’t get home till around 8:30pm, so I left around 9pm for my evening run. Keep in mind I’m usually in bed by 9:15-9:30pm. I ran on the track across from my house and ran just over 5miles. The BEST run I’ve ever done. Talk about stress relief, WOW. LOVE THAT…here is the link to that run: connect.garmin.com/activity/4931355
9?sms_ss=email

Friday Sept 17th – RevAbs Power Intervals2 again today and it felt just as great today!! I LOVE that I can feel my abs firing, feel them working, KNOWING they are still in there fighting to come OUT and show the world what they look like.

Friday is also weigh day for me. SOOOO…..I got on the ole wii (my constant scale since I started) hoping for results as I’m wanting to drop another 5-7 lbs just to hit a ‘normal’ BMI. I’m pleased to say that to date I have lost a grand total of 95lbs which is 35.98% of my total body weight and my BMI is 25.08, which is STILL overweight, but I’m closer to normal than I’ve been in years. I’m not sure when I last weighed 169lbs, but it was probably high school or shortly thereafter. I feel fantastic and I am totally seeing my body transform and I like what I’m seeing!!

So my SPARK FRIENDS
Are YOU doing the work necessary??
Are YOU watching what you put in your mouth??

……are YOU MAKING IT HAPPEN??

    I'm thinking that I'm going to buy one of those Garmin doohickeys now that I'm determined to run a HM next year. I want to be able to just run free without planning out routes of certain mileage for training.... besides I like gadgets and I don't necessarily trust my HRM's calorie burn numbers!

And, am I doing it? I have 115 fitness minutes for today and am going to do a 20 minute yoga session in a bit. I'm BACK, baby! Better, stronger, and faster than ever. We can rebuild him. We have the technology.

    Jerome, our fearless leader,

WOW, what an amazing week, in spite of it starting out with you not feeling well.

Congrats on raising such an awesome daughter! Gee, I wonder where she gets those leadership skills from?

I'm going to have to look into that "Garmin thing." I lost my heart rate monitor and from the sounds of it, the Garmin isn't that much more expensive than I paid for my last heart rate monitor. Does it do anything else, like cook dinner? hee hee

Have a fabulous weekend!

5 Mile DRC Breakfast Bash - The Review

Saturday, September 04, 2010

September 4th, 2010

I didn't sleep all that great AGAIN, due to pre race nerves, AGAIN! Today is my longest race to date, which is still really odd for me to say. Considering 6 months ago I couldn't run 5 miles if I tried, 9 months ago, I would have NEVER signed up for a race, you've come along way Jerome, you've come along way!

Alarm went off at 5:30ish and I was up and starting to wake up and get myself around. That includes checking my Sparkmail, update status, etc, I'm obsessed I think. 6:20am and I'm outta here, off to White Rock Lake.

This race is starting at a new location for me at White Rock so I gave plenty of time to get there. I found Winfrey Point around 7am with plenty of time to spare. I couldn't believe how many runners were already there one hour before race time. I had to park a good 1/2 mile from the shelter when I arrived. Did I mention it was only about 70 degrees or so this morning, VERY nice change!!!

I got my arm pocket in place on my arm, hat on, keys, money and off I go to find my race bib. I love the way the Dallas Running Club lays out the bib in alphabetical order, makes it super easy to find. Maybe others do it too, I dunno. I start pinning the bib in place and her comes Lynette, very cool to see her again. We chit chat while waiting and watching for Leslie and Amy. Soon all 4 of us from the Dallas Spark team are there and ready for action.

I took a fairly quick walk down the drive way and back to get my legs warmed up a little. The over achieving Lynette and Leslie went for a little run. I got my legs warmed a little, did a little stretch and worked the hip flexors pretty well and I'm ready to go. The four of us start out standing together in the herd of runners, but that didn't last long.

The president of the DRC always starts the races, moment of silence, National Anthem, then his speech, "We are the Dallas Running Club and TODAY WE RUN"...I'm a goober, but I LOVE that!! SO just after 8am we're off. I start my watch ok, no issue with that. I start my walkmeter, tuck it away and off I go. Keeping a fairly good speed I thought, but why hasn't my walkmeter told me my pace yet. I pulled the iPhone out and tried again, again it quit, THEN I figured it out...JEROME IS A DORK!! I was pushing the wrong button...grrr!! dummy dummy dummy!! So somewhere around 1/2 mile I get the thing working right, sheesh. ( I really need a garmin) With 800 runners running that trail it was rather crowed at first around 1 mile it started to open up as those who thought they could run started to fade already. Lynette and Leslie were way ahead of me and Amy was right on my tail, I think anyway so the Dallas Spark team had it covered! WOO HOO

The trail around White Rock is beautiful, the lake was so calming and relaxing, I'm planning to run over there even more in the future. We came to a bridge over the spillway and I thought I'd lost my mind, the darn thing was bouncing up and down with every step!!! It was the strangest thing I've ever experienced. I was quite pleased to hear my walkmeter keep telling me I was on a 9 or so minute mile pace, that felt great. Runners elbow to elbow on one part of the trail, bikers, runners, dogs, you name it, they were there. As I approached the finish line I see Lynette had come back out on the course and ran in with me, that was REALLY cool of her to do! My pace immediately went up a little bit, then she says "Do you have a push for the end?" So off we went, her STILL faster than I, but I was pushing to a strong finish and finished in 45:14 (I think). My goal was under 50 minutes and I did NOT want to walk any! I managed to accomplish both goals for the day. Actually I met all three goals, as I got to meet Leslie and Amy, GREAT to meet you gals and I look forward to running more races with ya'll!!

I also may have Sparked atleast one of the Dallas Running Club Merchandise ladies. I won't go into detail of HOW we got on the subject, but my story came up (I share it everywhere) so I mentioned SparkPeople.com several times during the conversation!

Below is a picture of Lynette, Jerome, Amy and Leslie from the Dallas Spark team. We're all smiling so big because we said 'Coach Nancy' on the count of three.

Measure of success??

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

This is random - just something that I was curious about so I posted for my own good really.

I did NOT take any measurements of my body when I started this process on December 28th, 2009. I think most will understand why I didn't, I was HUGE!!

I DID take measurements on April 5th, which is the day I started Insanity at approx 211 lbs. Keep in mind that I'd lost around 60lbs already when these were taken.
Those measurements are as follows:
Neck = 17.5
chest = 43
waist = 39
hips = 41
right thigh = 23.5
left thigh = 24
right calf = 17
left calf = 16.5
right bicep = 13.5
left bicep = 13
right forearm = 12
left forearm = 11
Total all that together for 271 inches

I measured again on August 29th for fun, those are as follows:
Neck = 16.25
chest = 38.5
waist = 34
hips = 38
right thigh = 20
left thigh = 20
right calf = 15.5
left calf = 15.75
right bicep = 12.25
left bicep = 12.25
right forearm = 10.5
left forearm = 10.5
Total all that up = 243.5 inches

Since April 5th, 2010 I have lost 27.5 inches from my body total and I have lost 37.5 lbs since then.

Maintaining at around 173ish for the last month or so!!

What can I say...the first 265 days of 2010 have been GREAT for me and my family, I can't wait to see what the next 100 bring!

I did it in CELEBRATION.....

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Celebration of a friend and his MAJOR mile marker on his journey.....

here's the setting:
ToddJames is a friend! He was 1 lbs away from being OVERWEIGHT, saying goodbye to Obese forever! Well....I threw it out to our team that they MIGHT want to encourage and push Todd this week because if he didn't make it to Overweight, there would be a physical challenge for the entire team in his honor. Fair enough, right...all it good fun ofcourse! WELL, this brought a stir to the forum as you can imagine, cheering for Todd, pushing , etc...THEN Todd opens HIS mouth and says something like, "You can count on me team, I will lose this pound, AND when I do, Jerome has to UP his Sunday morning run by 20%"!!! WHAT WAS HE THINKING??? Oh OK....all in good fun...I can do this I thought. Then Larry(the FlaBeachBum and Mari (MGriffith32) and Nicholas (absolutezer0) all jumped on board with me, extending their Sunday runs as well, HOW COOL IS THIS!! A friendly challenge tossed out that has the team up and moving....I LOVE THIS I thought to myself!

OK.....Friday Morning Todd PROUDLY announces that he's no longer obese emoticon and we all celebrate with him, that's a big day really, I remember my day when that happened!

SO here we are on Sunday Morning......I got up and I DID IT IN CELEBRATION.......

    OK...so I have thought about it all morning...honestly Jerome...I STILL have NO WORDS! I am NOT sure there is another Team Leader out there...that would take the time to challenge a fellow team member to push themselves to be their BEST and think to motivate the ENTIRE TEAM at THE SAME TIME!

Don't get a BIG HEAD...but you are BRILLIANT!

Thanks again...now...enough about that...people from other teams are questioning the MAKE IT HAPPEN LOVEFEST!

    Jerome, do we have the best Spark Team, or what? Thanks for always challenging us to get out of the box!

    First off...the funny guy is STILL at a loss for words (tough for me...)! All this fuss...over a pound!

Jerome, you and the team have shown me WHY this website is quickly becoming such a HUGE part of my journey AND becoming a HUGE SENSATION throughout the world!

Often on this journey...you can feel alone, frustrated, emotional, and about 10,000 other emotions! Occasionally, you get lucky enough to find the right friend, the right team that becomes like a family, and the right support to make it happen!

So yes...it was only one pound...but it seemed to inspire me, you, and a HOST of others...and THAT my friend...is greater than anything measured by 16 ounces!

Thanks to EVERYONE for their support...we ARE IN IT...to WIN IT!

    emoticon You did it! I (Larry the FL Beach Bum) did my First 4 Mile Run this morning too! I thought Florida did not have hills, especially where I am but the elevation map of mine shows an ascent of 52 feet! No wonder I am hurting now LOL! Here is the link to mine:

    Well, all righty then..... the agony of working while sparking and joining this team has kept me unaware of these friendly little "goings on". I will do my own little happy celebration in honor of ALL of you! I have never even run 4 miles!!!!

So, give me 10 minutes to get ready.....and I'm off. 4 miles--a new record for me----in honor of TODDJAMES-------who needs to fill me in on the Ranch Dip River!!!! Jerome says that's up to you, buddy!!!!!

JEROME-----You crack me up and inspire me with your diligence, strength, commitment to family, friends, and yourself!

Mari----for designing that shirt!---ya gonna put my pic on it!?!?! emoticon

I would list all MIHers, but I gotto go RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
