Week 7 (week ending May 30, 2009)

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

This whole week was kinda a wash. I ran a couple of times, even had a record of running 4 miles straight on Saturday then did a 21 mile bike ride BUT i have gained weight so.... I am a little disappointed right now. I have to learn how to balance a vacation and my workout/diet plan.

First 5k Race EVER!!!

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Yesterday I was prepping for the race and Linda's cousin Magda (Smurfette0725) (who is a 3 time marathoner, multiple half-marathoner, etc. and a huge inspiration to me!!!) told me that before a race she makes 3 goals/wishes. I will be happy if..., I will be psyched if...., and I will be SHOCKED if... So I came up with: I will be happy if i run the whole length of the race, I will be psyched if I beat my time of 33:45 and will be SHOCKED if i beat Derek (he was standing next to me when I made the wish). Well today I am psyched for beating my time by a whole minute and having my greatest friends there and the greatest supporter, my boyfriend!! Even though I was EXTREMELY jealous of him since he smashed his record by 90 seconds... I am still proud of myself for how far I have come.

So for my next race:
I will be happy if I come under 30 minutes.
I will be psyched if I am in the top 25% of my age group
I will be SHOCKED if I am in the top 25 of my age group

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Thanks for your blog!
At twice your age (I just turned FIFTY 6 weeks ago!!!), I also ran my very first 5K today (time= 32:35)- It's great that you are starting the fitness habit at your age- you will be leaving me in the dust in no time!
Anyway, I visited your lovely spark page and wish you all the best with your future running.
Also, the "happy/psyched/shocked" goals are a wonderful tool. Thank you for sharing that!
