Bad Weekend

Weekends are very hard for me. I have found that when my family is home all weekend I tend to eat like crazy. My kids have been out of school for a long weekend. I was off work for two days because I was sick. We are off today for an Illinois school holiday. I think I have eaten more this weekend than I have since I started Sparkpeople. We went out Saturday. I made horrible choices at the restaurant. I knew they were horrible choices, but did it anyway. Sunday, I didn't do well at all. I had popcorn with real butter. And lots of it. Today, my husband decided he wanted to take me out for breakfast. Basically, on the weekend I am weak. I know I could do something about it, but I don't. Generally on Monday I pick up where I left off on Friday, but I know I could do better and tend to feel guilty about eating the way I have. Why can't I get myself to make better choices? Why do I make myself feel guilty? Anyway, better luck next weekend, I guess.

    When I have those days I remind myself that thankfully each day is a new day, and a chance to start over with a clean slate - don't dwell on what happened.
For the tough times when home with family and cooking/backing etc I try hard to have foods prepped for me to grab quick when I suddenly feel like a handful of chips with the kids or something that will throw me into the bad eating mode.
I pre cut veggies so their ready to grab and go or add to salads. I have sugar free jello on hand to make a big bowl when a sweet tooth hits. I keep sugar free ice cream bars in the freezer at all times, and my whole family loves them so I'm safe with those.
I also try to pre cook meals so that I always have meals done and ready a day ahead - then when the pressure is on and time is lacking, which it usually is, I'm ready to roll with the healthy stuff - and I find that by doing this I'm better organized overall. Finding time to do this can be hard, but once you get in the habbit of it, you'll miss not doing it.

    I found that using the nutrition tracker on this website really helped me in making better choices and journaling about how I feel when I do make unhealthy choices. I also found that feeling guilty caused me to eat more. I have to ask myself when faced with making a bad choice, "Is this going to get me closer to my goal?" and you may be surprised how you answer. When I exercise and eat right I feel so much better and have a positive attitude toward life in general. I call it the snowball effect... Give yourself a break, it is hard to change old behaviors, but not impossible. emoticon

    There is always another weekend 5 days away....

I am really bad at making good choices on weekends too. But I have resigned myself to this as my reality. So to compensate I just make really good choices on Friday and Monday.

It does help to shift the focus onto something you are doing right - rather than keeping on what you are doing wrong.
