I met a goal!

Saturday, January 24, 2009

I can now jog for 25 minutes on the treadmill without stopping. This is one of my goals that I created for the January New YOU boot camp challenge.

I originally started jogging on the treadmill in August or September and I wanted to work up to a 5K. I am still going and on my way. Next workout I am going to try for 30 minutes without stopping. I usually jog about a 12 minute mile so a 5K for me will take about 36 minutes.

Maybe getting there will be my goal for February.

Which of your healthy goals is hardest for you to meet? Why?

Eating right...
I find it hard to eat healthy everyday. My friends and family persuade me to go out to eat. Being busy with school and work make it hard to eat at home all the time. I'm not good at cooking so that also doesn't help.

Eating healthy to me usually means eating less. And, I get hungry! Ever try the Special K challenge? Sounds great, but really it's a joke. Two bowls of cereal a day? I'd pass out.

Mindless eating affects me too. I can't control myself enough to eat just one snack. I have to eat three or four at a time.

Even when I can get myself motivated to exercise, I can't seem to eat right at the same time.

I definitely understand about eating out all the time. My fiance always wants to eat out. I'm not great at eating healthy, either, but I am getting better. When I think I am eating healthy, I eat about the same amount of food and don't feel hungry, but don't seem to get enough calories. Usually I am eating a lot of veggies when this happens. Balancing my diet has been one of the hardest things for me. Another is the motivation to exercise, even though I feel more energized after I do it.

With the snacking, it might help if you buy 100 calorie packs or smaller bags so that it's easier to control what you eat. Another cheaper option for chips and other similarly packaged items would be to buy a large bag and then separate it out into Ziploc bags or small containers. That way, you wouldn't have the whole bag in front of you. Last night, my fiance and I had chips and salsa. I put a serving of chips onto a plate for me to eat so that I wouldn't eat too many.

Or maybe when you're hungry, try snacking on fruit or yogurt. I'm pretty sure that eating yogurt every day was one of the ways I lost so much weight without trying last spring.

Good luck with your healthy eating habits. I'm sure you'll get them under control emoticon

New You Bootcamp

Sunday, January 04, 2009

Today is the first day of the Sparkpeople.com New YOU Bootcamp. I've completed the cardio video for the day. I wanted to use this blog to outline my goals for the bootcamp.

*Complete exercise video and cardio requirements each day.
*Be able to jog for 25 minutes without stopping.
*Be able to move my weight traker down to 147 lbs. from 150 lbs.

If I meet two of the three goals I will buy myself new exercise clothes.

First Week Back

Friday, August 29, 2008

My first week back at school and in my apartment have gone so much better than I imagined! I've been here since Sunday and I've only over-eaten on one occasion. Even then I was eating healthy snacks. My food budget for this month has encouraged me to eat at home and bring my lunch to school. And, I've been eating alot more fruits and vegetables than normal. Drinking my 8 glasses of water each day has been kind of tough. Some days I get and 8+ and some days I only drink about 4. Next week I am going to make that goal my priority.

As far as exercising goes...IT'S BEEN GREAT! I surpassed my exercising goal this week, and we haven't even worked out in my P.E. class yet. My most exciting accomplishment is that I conquered my fear of the treadmill. Usually I just avoid that machine at the gym altogether, but on Tuesday it was the only free spot. So, I got on and walked for a few minutes, grasping to the hand rails. Then I tried to let go of one of the handles. And to my surprise it was easy. By the end of the work-out I was jogging for two minutes and walking for three without holding on to the hand rails. Since then I've gone back and tried my new treadmill workout again. I'm hooked!

Thanks for all the support, comments, and encouragement. Feel free to add me to your friend list. emoticon

Sticking with it

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I weighed in yesterday and thankfully, I hadn't gained any new weight. I've been exercising alot lately, and so I decided to check my measurements. All of them had decreased! I was very happy. If you're discouraged because the scale hasn't changed I challenge you to keep tabs on your neck, waist, and hip measurements.

My progress has encouraged me to keep going. I've been checking my spark streaks daily to help me monitor my consistency. I need to give my new behaviors time to form habits. In the past I have been motivated only long enough to exercise or eat right for maybe a week at a time. Then I get frustrated or lazy and give up. I'm so tired of giving up! This time I am going to give myself a chance to succeed.

Also, I have decided to post my nutrition tracker on my SparkPage. I would like to use this to discourage any mindless snacking. emoticon
