An experiment

Altho I definitely have some staples, I love trying new things. But I'm experimenting this week, trying to repeat the previous week's food. I can't completely - it's just not in my nature & of course sat's potluck throws a monkey wrench in there. But I'm at least giving it a try as much as possible.

I also know that you can eat exactly the same, exercise exactly the same & still get different results. And last week's results were good & typically after a good week I might stay the same or go up a bit. Like I said, it's just an experiment.

I found the press on nail polish at target for about half the price - in a fairly simple gold. So ow I have options, anyway.

I took my newest Marshall's gift card out for a spin with no results. I did try on a dress I really loved - purple, peplum, cut out upper back, cheap -- and very en trend; but just too darn short. I was sad to leave it her but frankly my upper thighs are not my best feature & I showed too much of them.

Which was totally frustrating because otherwise I looked awesome in it. But I always figure there must be something even better waiting for me.

It's a nice day - first morning with no rain in 4 days - but I'll run on tbe treadmill anyway so I can catch up with the Olympics. I tape them & watch them when I have the time - and try not to see any results before watching them!

    In the old days, we used to have the same food on the same day each week. There just wasn't the variety of food available today. Seems dreadfully old fashioned, but it was easier for the housewives (only the women cooked) who had to cook 365 days a year because no one ate out. And to think people remember the old days fondly!!

Satisfying Saturday

Had a really nice long run yesterday. Funny how 6 miles doesn't really seem to qualify as a long run anymore. Don't get me wrong -/ it's still an effort & tiring, but it no longer seems long. And I still remember the high of being able to run one whole mile for the first time!

I ran it at the same pace as my average pace from speed work Tuesday -- but it certainly didn't seem that hard, even tho it was a hilly route. Probably because I ran with someone for a change. Last time I ran 6 miles by myself I think my pace was 1 minute per mile slower AND it felt harder.

Then the running group got together for a potluck last night which was fun, except for the 15 minutes sitting in the car because it was pouring & we were parked 4 blocks away. It did eventually stop raining & a good time was had by all.

Did decently with my food choices -- in fact I was still hungry when I got home so had some frozen Greek yogurt. Chocolate this time -- and I didn't like it; go figure. I really like the vanilla, tho.

Next week is the wedding. A couple of weeks after that is a company picnic. Lots of challenges to get thru still. The next HM is 2 months away. How did that happen?

    I remember when 6 miles was long....now it's pretty much my cutback length.
Really....prefer vanilla to chocolate?? I haven't tried chocolate greek yogurt...maybe those flavors just don't mesh as well.

There are times I know I've lost weight. There are times I know I've gained. Sometimes I know why; and sometimes I'm totally clueless. And sometimes I'm unsure, like yesterday (and clueless).

For most of last week I was way hungrier than usual. I did a lot of baking & a lot of tasting. I've gotten pretty good at only licking tbe spoon when I bake, but not last week. Yet I had a good loss. Back into my happy place.

I didn't eat out at all last week, except for what I bought at tbe farmer's market: lesson learned there -- whole challah bad, 1 challah roll not too bad.

I've been drinking way more. It's not like I was slacking before, but I'd often just stop when I got close to my 8-9 glasses for hours. Now I continue drinking no matter how much I've already drunk (except a couple hours before a long run).

I've implemented the move every hour rule -- making sure I get up & do something -- not even necessarily exercise, just something I need to get done -- at least once an hour. And boy, I'm getting a lot more done.

And yet some week's I'm still up, some weeks I'm down & haven't yet broken thru to a lower weight. Weird, like I said.

Now for the ladies: I wnt to sephora yesterday. I wanted to get stick on nail polish. I'd only just heard of it. I really wanted something plain, but all they had was wild stuff. I bought some leopard print, but I'm going to see if target carries something simpler. Or maybe hit the mall & the beauty supply store.

So if you're like me & never heard of the stuff - it's nail polish in the general shape of your nail with an adhesive backing you simply press on & supposedly won't chip. I haven't done my nails in literally years - cause it never lasts long - but I'm gonna give this a try for the wedding. They make it for your toes, too! And it comes off with regular nail polish remover. Now hopefully my nails won't break in the next week.

I also bought a small brow kit. I was a tweezer virgin. I used to shave my eyebrows, but the infection I got from that one time actually started me on my weight loss journey. The kit was a bit pricey at $35 but I actually highly recommend it, it comes with eyebrow powder & gel, stencils & the tweezers.

You put the stencil over your eyebrow, fill it in with powder & then tweeze the hairs outside your nicely shaped brows. Then you can use the gel to keep the shape, which I skipped yesterday but will do for the wedding.

No one ever showed me how to tweeze my brows . . . not my mom . . . not my sister. My mom's never been much into teaching - she didn't teach me to cook or bake or knit -- all things I taught myself. Anyways, so I was always kind of scared of tweezing but it was really pretty simple. Only took me 50 years to try!

This Weight Loss Journey IS Weird more often than not, in my Opinion. I do like your Move Every Hour Rule!! Great way to get things done around the House.

Why am I not surprised you got leopard print?
Nobody ever showed me how to tweeze my brows, either. I suck at it. That's why I get thtem threaded and then just try to maintain for a bit.

So interesting about the stick on nail polish! I hope you mention in a blog how it works for you. And the eyebrows....eeeek! I go get mine waxed about once a month. I normally have a pretty high pain tolerance, but the tweezing is just a pain I cannot tolerate, lol....

Of today's WI, that is. Eating-wise my week was ok, but it was one of those weeks with more BLTs than normal (bites, licks & tastes).

I wore a pair of skinny jeans yesterday. I've been trying to wear something form fitting once a week, so the loose summer clothes don't fool me. The legs felt looser, but that could just be stretching out, but there was more muffin top - not really because it was too tight in tbe stomach, but just that they keep slipping down - but not falling off. Does that make any sense?

Bottom line is a gain wouldn't surprise me but it would not make me happy for sure. Maintaining is only good if you're at GW.

It is a nasty, rainy day & likely to stay that way all day long. I might just wear boots. Of course I have my meeting & then a bunch of errands to run. Of course yesterday was lovely, but I did do a lot of errands yesterday, too.

Side note: it's really not that hard to braid your own hair. I taught myself years ago. Now you've got YouTube, which makes it so much easier! It is definitely easier when you have straight hair, but I don't so it can be done either way. I guess it's like anything: if you want it bad enough, you'll do it. And just what does that say about my inability to reach GW, hmmm?

    I know the feeling all too well of wearing loose clothing and then getting a shock when you try on snugger things. I hope today's weigh in went well in the end but I'm sure you will nip this in the bud!

Thumbs up on UTube and braiding...found one that taught me the fishtail braid and also where you do a traditional braid but at the end hold one strand and push the other two up it, then twist for the coolest messy bun. Best part of getting a better body is showing off the peacock feathers!

Same old, same old

Seriously, not much going on. Make a few changes, do good for a while, then BOOMerang! Let's just say I'm seriously good at maintaining, which isn't tbe end of tbe world I suppose.

Enjoying another beautiful day. We were due some good weather.

Another track workout last night. Small group, no TCBY, so had my frozen Greek yogurt at home instead. Probably better; easier to control my portion size.

Doing lots of decluttering with my move every hour method.

Finally pulled out my elbow brace & was able to do some upper body ST Monday without pain. Gonna try some more today. Yes, the elbow is still bothering me. I've added in specific weight exercises & stretches for it & it seems to be sloooowly getting better.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to magically lose 5 lbs & get cut arms before the wedding next sat. I can't even cut back on carbs to cut the bloat because I'll be running 7 miles.

Retried my Tisano tea this morning. Basically it's roasted cocoa shells; google if you're interested. I was not impressed the first time I made it but I must've hit everything just right today because it really hit the spot after our walk.

I've been rocking 2 side French braids into one braid down my back the last couple of days. A bit time consuming but it really holds all that hair in. I tried a waterfall braid a while back & aced it the first time I tried it but haven't been able to do it again. It would work well for the wedding do I'll have to try again.

I often do a simple French braid for my runs in the summer, but with my long layers it really doesn't come out so well. Braids are one reason I like my hair longer. Which reminds me I really need to make an appointment to get my bangs trimmed . . .

    That wasn't a mundane blog at all! I had actually forgotten how nice braids are until you mentioned it so I must go google how to do it. My hair is so thick (I'm thinking your hair is as well) that it will be nice to have something other than a ponytail or a twist.

Poor elbow...at least it's on it's way to getting better.
I think you'll be looking great for the wedding...especially now that you can do some upper body ST.
I could never French braid my hair...just too inept, I guess. That's why I cut it short.

    Funny! Sometimes a mundane update is a good update. Good stress and bad stress all create the same cortisol hormones anyway! I felt relaxed reading about someone's more relaxing life :)
