Don't you hate it when . . .

Thursday, May 31, 2012

. . . you know you could've been better, you were a bit loosey goosey here & there, but you really weren't terrible - and the scale was really mean to you?

So, time to batten down the hatches. Too many goals that to be met. So stop with tbe chocolate agave drizzled on the frozen yogurt that you don't even measure, much less track. Ditto with grabbing a few chocolate covered raisins here & there when you're baking with them.

In wildlife news, th turkey is still entertaining us. Turns out what we thought was Tom is Tomasina (she laid an egg in a neighbor's yard). Our robin abandoned her nest after a fairly severe thunderstorm (our gutter, which they were almost directly underneath overflows).

But today is gorgeous. Really, really gorgeous. A great day for a run a little later on.

The scale is a b*st*ard. Truly. Love that you guys are bonding with the turkey. lol Unless there's a male around, the egg won't be fertile. So did you eat the egg or are you just letting her nest?

Haven't you thrown that monster scale out the window yet? I know you eat well 99% of the time and you are super about getting your workouts done, don't be hard on yourself because of the scale or for a little drizzle here and there. Hiding that scale has been the best thing in the world that I've done for myself in a long time. Tomorrow is D-Day, I'm weighing the first time since May 1st.

Enjoy your run today, hooray for great weather days. It's hot, humid and almost 90, heading out for a run after work, I'm betting it's gonna be a slow, easy run that's for sure.

Weight loss is like Everyword

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Everyword is a word game I play on my kindle. You are given letters you make words out of & you must get the longest word (or 2 or 3) before you can move on to the next level - or you can choose to forfeit & start a new game. There are 10 levels & each level is harder than the previous one.

1. I used to get up to about level 7 or so & then quit when it seemed too hard. One time I just stuck with until I completed all the levels.

2. It was easier to quit & start a new game - altho I swear when you do, each game gets harder. Just as it's easy to quit when the going gets rough & each restart seems a little harder.

3. It takes a lot of patience getting thru all the levels, but you have a feeling of satisfaction when your hard work pays off.

4. Sometimes everything flows & it seems easy; sometimes it sems like you'll never find another word (or lose another pound).

5. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just can't find that longest word & you have to start over.

6. You can really get obsessed with the game.

7. The longer you play, the harder it gets.

8. It often seems easier to find words after some exercise (just as it's easier to make better food choices after some exercise).

Of course, it's also a good way to distract yourself from eating, too!

that's exactly what I originally liked about using the tracker. It was a game to see how well I stayed in my ranges, and if I exchanged rice for a potato, how did that work out. FOOD for thought.....pun intended!

There's almost always something you can do

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

My tennis elbow has flared up. Big time. Like it hurts to lift a glass of water. It rarely really bothers me these days & hasn't been this bad in over a decade. Maybe too many triceps dips while getting back into exercising after being sick.

So I'm icing it. Using these - www.paradicepacks.com/ . I bought them a while ago & this is the first time I've had to use them - I highly recommend them! I don't have to get wt & I don't have to hold onto anything & I can travel with them.

And resting it as much as possible. Which bums me out because I really want to work on my arms, but rest is really tbe only thing that will heal it. It also means no swimming - and not much yoga, either.

But I can, and I do, work my core & my legs. And thankfully running doesn't seem to exacerbate it, either.

The road to a healthy lifestyle is full of speed bumps & detours, but there's always a way to get back on track.

BTW, those rice crispy treats I mentioned yesterday were awesome.

I feel your pain, as I've been dealing with tennis elbow and/or golf elbow for just over a year. If you're not using BioFreeze, try some. It's great and will help it along. Hope you're healed soon.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties, but rest and ice are always best. and you are so right about finding other ways to keep moving and grooving.

Gotta get those elbows in shape and sharpen them up for some retail therapy later this month, gotta have sharp elbows to bust thru to those SALE racks. emoticon

    Those do look handy.
Sorry about the elbow. At least it doesn't interfere with your running and lower body stuff.
Oooh...I bet those were awesome :-)

A different goal & my menu

Monday, May 28, 2012

I wrote a wrote a whole blog that got eaten . . . you know how that goes.

We have a pretty simple menu for tonight:

Bison dogs (very tasty, much lower fat than regular hot dogs) - 2 on 1 roll for me
Baked sweet potato fries
Home made cole slaw

And for dessert I made this recipe - www.skinnytaste.com/2010/09/low-fat-
rice-krispy-treats.html#more
? Only this morning I dipped half of them in dark chocolate. Cause that's how I roll. I'll have DH take the rest into work tomorrow. Maybe I'll keep one.

Yesterday I went to Old Navy & bought some shorts - because I needed some, they were on sale + 10% discount. I bought 8s; tried on the 6s but they were too small. My goal is for the shorts to be too big by the end of the summer - usually I'm trying to lose weight to fit into something, not to have them get too big.

If these shorts were too big I'd be at or near my GW. I'm not actually expecting to be at my GW by the end of the summer, but it's a good goal. Plus I have the goals of vacation, wedding, & upcoming HM.

So far the weekend's been pretty good. Relaxing, even with a short, easy run this morning at 5 am, walking the dogs & 20 minutes of ST. Hope you're having/had a good weekend, too!

GSF & yogurt run

Friday, May 25, 2012

I ran for yogurt yesterday. It was a little disappointing - not the yogurt itself, but the self serve aspect. There are 2 size cups - naturally I chose the smaller one, but it was still large. You serve yourself, they weigh it & you pay by the ounce.

Despite maybe filling it only 1/4 full, it weighed in at 7 ounces! Yikes! Almost double what I budgeted for. I had to throw out some & up the amount on my tracker.

But I must say I felt a whole lot cooler when I walked out of there . . .

The run itself was hard - it was a tempo run & therefore I suppose it should feel hard. I felt like I was sooo slow, but in the end my average pace was almost where I wanted it to be. Hopefully it will improve.

I recently found oikos Greek frozen yogurt at the grocery store. It's tart - which I told my husband when I offered him some - but I enjoy it. I'd recommend it. There's Greek frozen yogurt at TCBY, too, but if I'm going for a real treat I want something a bit sweeter. I'll leave the frozen Greek yogurt for an at-home treat.

For those enjoying a holiday weekend, be safe, be happy & remember why you started this healthy journey in the first place.

Yay for a tempo run that was close to the tempo you wanted!!
Have a fab weekend!
