Maybe not my best idea

So I heard about this app the other day called food spotting . . . People take photos of their meal & upload it to this site/app.

And I've just spent time ogling the red velvet pancakes in las Vegas and the deli in Montreal, of all places, amongst many other highly caloric items that probably put 5 lbs on me just for looking.

There's links to more info about the restaurants, yelp, there are guides . . . not sure if this will be helpful or harmful.

Just thought I'd share. Because misery (or is that gluttony?) loves company.

Lately i've had a powerful craving for challah. Only problem is I can eat an entire loaf by myself.

    Yes I tend to torture myself browsing foods online alot. Seems like I tend to snack more when I do that too. I have to step away from the browsing.

Why you can't motivate to exercise

I read something this morning that really resonated with me: don't exercise to lose weight or to fight your body. Do it to make your body healthy and strong and because it makes you feel good.

Truer words never spoken. This is why I don't normally have trouble with exercise - because I feel better when I exercise.

If you're just starting out, I know it's not quite that simple, but there are a few tricks you can use:

Try everything. Stick with what you love, not with whatever is trendy at the moment.

Small steps - you don't run a marathon on day 1 of training; even one minute of exercise is better thsn none. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Schedule your exercise like you would any important appointment.

Get everything you need together the night before.

Today I am finally back at a normal temperature. It should actually be a nice day once we get out of the freezing temps of this morning. I am so tempted to walk the dogs . . . poor things really need it . . . but I know I'm probably better off resting up another day. Tomorrow, which is supposed to be rainy, I really need to get out. I'm almost out of the one kind of cat food simba really likes.

I'd rather do it today, in the nicer weather, but am just not up to it yet. Literally burned out.

I missed my WI, the HM training AND dinner with our neighbors last week. DH did pick up a few things at the store yesterday, but he's still not 100% either & has to work today too so I hate to ask him. Well, that & he rushes thru it & gets the wrong thing. I asked for egg whites - emailed him a shopping list - said it should only have real egg whites as it's ingredient. He came home with egg beaters. Hello, you have a phone! Then gets mad at me because he a) can't follow directions & b) can't bother to call when he's unsure. Sigh. I should make him eat them . . .

    Wow! I can't believe you're still fighting that illness, at least it sounds like you're on the upswing. Good Luck! Hopefully this week's weather will improve nicely.

    Great words to live by... stick to what you like, it makes it really hard to wake up for a morning workout when AB's in on the schedule, lol.

A glimpse into how to eat?

There's only one good thing about fevers for me: I lose my appetite. But I'll take DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness & no, I didn't make that up myself) over the fever muscle aches anytime.

My fever broke around 6ish last night & suddenly I was hungry. I feel a lot better today, altho still not normal & in fact just had my breakfast of a protein bar at 9:30 (normally I eat breakfast at 6).

So the weight has been pretty much melting off simply because I haven't been hungry much of the time - the big takeaway for me is there's been almost no snacking. Or maybe I'm just kidding myself, but it wouldn't be the first time that an illness has been a catalyst to weight loss.

Of course, I also haven't eaten out for over 2 weeks, too. Maybe another clue. Still, the week before I got really sick we went out to eat twice & had prime rib at home - and I lost. I feel like I can never figure this out & maybe there's nothing to do but accept that.

Today is my WI but other than walking the dogs I plan to continue camping out on the couch. I really hate to miss my meeting but I know I really just need the rest. I may have to kiss the first meeting of the HM training, which I really hate, but frankly I just don't think it would be a good idea. Still have a couple of days to rest up.

But maybe I'll be able to wear my skinny jeans to dinner Saturday . . .

    Glad you're feeling better. Hopefully you'll be back to normal by tomorrow.
I don't know if you'll be able to figure out the weight loss or lack of.
I think resting is a good idea.
I bet you will get into those skinny jeans. Can't wait to hear about it.

    I know you hate to miss your meetings, but you know your body pretty well and it's saying....get rested. You don't want a relapse of a relapse. Hope the weekend gives you added strength and wellness. emoticon

I don't k ow what I have, but every time I start to feel better & do a bit more I get sick again. Wondering if maybe DH picked something up in japan & reinfected me, but it doesn't really matter as the end result is I'm still sick. I feel badly for DH, too, as he's going to work sick even tho I told him I think he should stay home.

Right now I'm just hoping to feel well enough to attend the first session of the training group this weekend - it's not supposed to be very strenuous. Just a short run to see which group you'll fall into. Plus we're supposed to get together with neighbors that night for dinner & I'm supposed to make some desserts.

I've barely been moving for weeks now so I just don't know why this thing won't die. I'm glad that I can not do much - I'm very lucky that way.

Really not much going on . . . I really hate fevers! Sorry for the whining. I just want to feel normal again - & keep off the weight I've lost, altho I'm sure it's mostly water weight & unfortunately probably some muscle, too.

If you have the same thing that's been going around, hopefully you are on the upswing and will shake it off. I know how you hate to not feel like doing anything, it's just not in us to be stagnant, but with illness - we don't have a choice. Sending you get well {{{{vibes}}}}.

Gone & done it

Signed up for a HM training program with USAFit. I haven't even run in over 2 weeks because of this cold & the first session will be Saturday. Yikes! I'm planning an easy run/walk on the treadmill today, since the weather is still rather nasty here.

It's a big commitment - 6 months of training, altho you only meet once a week for your long runs. But it means DH will have to feed the dogs, as I'll have to leave pretty early & it will be interesting juggling everything when he's not here. But I have a friend who recommended it & I'd definitely like to better my times . . . we'll see.

Wouldn't you know the forecast is for very cold weather this Saturday morning?

There's a group run tonight, but I don't really feel up toit yet, not to mention DH has succumbed to the cold, too. We don't usually pass things back & forth . . . he was actually away on a business trip while I was sick, which in some ways was actually nice; I could camp out on the couch, eat what I wanted to & not worry about feeding him, & the house stays cleaner, too.

Yes, my dresser is still clear of clothes. The kitchen counters are at least semi-clear.

I lost 2 lbs last week, right before TOM, simply because I had very little appetite for several days (DH's appetite is apparently not at all effected). Which begs the question . . . why am I so much hungrier normally? It would be so easy to be at the right weight if you weren't hungry. What am I really hungry for? The $64,000,000 question.

    Hope you feel all better soon. My mom was a person who often didn't feel hungry and she hated that. I suppose it wouldn't be good if you felt that way all the time...although I agree, it would be the golden ticket to weight loss. Mom actually had trouble gaining weight.

    Congratulations on taking the plunge! I really want to start running - err - a very slow jog would be fine at the moment - but I don't know where to start. I guess with one foot in front of the other would be the best place emoticon

Sorry to hear your weather has been blah too as ours has been but I have always credited that to living on a rock in the north atlantic! Haven't seen the sun for a few days and boy do I miss it...thank goodness for my SAD lamp.

I came across a website this morning that I thought might be of interest to you - it is a Canadian site and has won several awards. I think it is called ohsheglows.com
I found several vegan recipes there although I am not a vegan they do sound yummy.

How are you dogs doing? Louisa is relishing the discovery of previously frozen puddles and loves to walk through them and roll in them if we don't catch her in time! AAARRGGHH
