I ate chocolate mousse for breakfast

Monday, April 02, 2012

Maybe this should have been yesterday's blog, but it's not an april fools!

I had Greek yogurt, added 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, sprinkled on 3 tbsp granola & topped with soyatoo (soy whipped cream). A bit of a treat, but not too unhealthy, yummy & packed with protein & good carbs.

I thought my Tuesday night running group was imploding with the start of the spring trail running season, but not only did a Tuesday night run get posted finally (the woman I ran with last week is back so I guess my slowness didn't scare her off), but a Sunday run got posted too!

I had a couple of races I was considering this month that I can't do due to DH's upcoming work trip, so I'm especially grateful for Sunday's run. I figured no one would want to run on Easter, but I also won't miss yoga since the rec center is closed. A win-win.

Today's gonna be busy - gotta get my ST in this morning cause the boys need to go to the vet this afternoon; always a major undertaking. And gotta walk the dogs before getting the boys crated up, since I need to shower when I get back home. The boys' claws have been mostly clipped already - for once they were fairly cooperative - & the first load of laundry is washing already.

Hoping to see the hunger games this week . . .

What kind of protein powder do you use? I'm trying to find something that tastes decent and isn't like adding powdered chalk to my smoothies!

Glad your running group is doing some running.
Have fun with the ST. Yes, it's always a production bringing the kitties in to the vet. Good luck!!
Wow....great start to the week!!

MMM - good idea that - adding choc protein to fat free yog - with lots of seeds added, it'll be a good snack for me esp.after dinner

:))

That yogurt concoction sounds yummy, I'll have to try that, always looking for ways to get the protein powder in besides smoothies, they get old after a while.

Good luck on getting it all done today. emoticon

I ate 1/2 cup ice cream

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Well, technically not ice cream as it's made with coconut milk.

So why is that momentous? As I've mentioned, ice cream isn't a trigger food for me. Not like cookies. I wish I could fit it in a bit more often, but I can take it or leave it.

But when I do take it, in the past. I've just guestimated the serving size. Last night I actually measured it out.

It takes maybe 30 seconds to measure it out. It takes just how long to take off that extra pound if you don't measure out the high calorie items? Where would you rather spend your time? Thought so.

Measuring portion sizes has another benefit: it trains your eye. So that when you're out & getting ice cream, you can make some guestimates about how much your serving really is.

Will you always have to measure out food? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe only certain foods.

How long did it take you to get that last pound off? Where do you really want to spend your time?

I measure most of the time, but I'm pretty good at eyeballing it when I'm out. :)

So Delicious for sure! :)

Nothing wrong with a treat now and again as long as you don't go overboard - and you're right, actually measuring it out and knowing how much you're having definately helps you from going overboard.
How is coconut milk ice cream? I'm not a big coconut fan but it sounds intriguing. :) Where did you get it?

I have been weighing and measuring a lot lately. My portion distortion is so out of whack I think I will be measuring for quite a long time.

Look ma, no cavities!

Friday, March 30, 2012

Despite the fact that it had been 3+ yrs since I'd been to the dentist - just one of the costs of moving - not to mention the fact of dragging 4 senior animals back & forth to the vet. Hey, the boys officially turn 11 sunday & I just remembered I forgot to pick up one of those emery-type scratchers at Target today. Damn. At least I already got them some new catnip toys.

I have had one tooth that has been aching on & off just slightly. I was afraid there'd be an abscess or something & he'd have to drill but thankfully not. Just an achy tooth.

He did actually suggest braces - not the first to do so - I actually HAD braces when I was a kid & can't say as I really want to repeat the experience, even tho I know things are so much better these days. My gums tend to bleed, but they always have despite pretty much any advice any dentist has ever given me & he didn't really seem overly concerned, unlike my last dentist who we discovered had been arrested for possession of child porn . . . I kid you not.

So no ebooks this week. Guess a combination of TOM & less exercise due to not feeling well. And while both reasons are valid, they're still excuses because I've maintained or lost with both in the past. Sometimes. I really felt I had a pretty good week. Just have to make this one better. This pattern would be fine if I were at GW but I'm NOT. I want to be. THIS year.

In payback for our nice weather last week a little slushy snow is expected tonight. I TOLD DH not to bring out the patio furniture . . .

Happy birthday to the boys :-)
YIKES...no wonder you stay away from the dentist ;-)
Perhaps an ebook next week....some weeks are just not losing weeks.

I don't want it

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

That's the tip I read today in some magazine. When you decide not to eat something (or buy something), tell yourself you don't want it, NOT you can't have it.

Been real tired lately, a bit under the weather Monday (I often feel that way before TOM - anyone else?), but had a nice group run last night. But those first coup,e of miles . . . around 10 mm . . . geez, why do I keep hooking up with people who are clearly so much faster than me? But then I stopped to drink some water & she went on . . . leaving me to go forward at a more comfortable pace.

No worse for wear today & being pushed is one of the things I like about running in groups.

Not really a whole lot else going on. Waiting for the crowds to die down some before going to see The Hunger Games . . . not this weekend, maybe next.

Great tip...I'll have to remember it :-)
Good run!! I run with somebody faster every Sunday...at least he doubles back every once in a while and if there is somebody that he thinks looks sketchy, he'll run with me.
Feeling icky around TOM....guilty.

Funny how a simple change in how we think about stuff actually works. I must try that tip and trick my mind!

I am a wee bit emotional the day before TOM but then I seem to get a migraine at the very end. Weird, isn't it.

I am proud of your running....at any speed!

That's how I've been able to be successful with eliminating coffee and sugar. I realized that I don't want them, but can have them if I wanted. Good point.

That's a good tip! It sounds like you have control of what you do want instead of trying to talk yourself out of something. emoticon

Are you stuck in a healthy rut?

Monday, March 26, 2012

It's so easy to reach for the same old favorites . . . over & over again. And that's fine if the scale's moving in the right direction; if it's not, unsticking it might be as simple as changing things up.

I'll bet you've heard this before: if you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

Or how about this one? Edison figured out 9,999 ways not to create a lightbulb.

Yes, I was really not happy when the scale went in the wrong direction despite what I felt wa a very good week. So I decided to at least try to do something about it: I mixed up my breakfasts & snacks more. I didn't suddenly lose a lot of weight, but I did lose some & more importantly my clothes are feeling a lot more comfortable.

That 's a good comfortable - better fitting clothes; eating the same foods, day in & day out, is an example of a bad comfortable.

Reality check for me too - I have to get uncomfortable to shake these 2 lbs following me around again.

I think I need to adjust things a bit too, I seem to be stuck in a rut as well. I am such a regimented, creature of habit and it's hard to shake things up sometimes. I am working on a new plan this week, so we will see if shaking it up works for me.

Glad to hear it worked for you. emoticon

Yes, it's so easy to get into those ruts. Glad you've got it changed-up for progress.
