Photo shoot -- NOT clothes! Misc pics

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Just some miscellaneous photos to share . . . nothing really weight related!

First off, the weird. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I found it growing in our backyard. I won't say what it reminds me of.

Because everyone loves animal photos . . . yes, the boys still do cuddle. Sometimes for hours -- sometimes for 5 minutes before Simba whacks Gizmo away. They love to lay on top of the dogs' crates, as seen in this photo.

The toys I got for them at the farmer's market. Noticed the cock-eyed photo at the very top right -- yes, that's the boys' work.

Simba isn't terribly playful . . . unless it's new.

Blurry photo of Giz trying to bunny kick the toy to death.

Ok, terribly fuzzy photo -- DH took it with his blackberry. But I kind of like it even so. Wish it had come out sharper! Me pretending to dig into the dessert this weekend. My parents gave me that necklace for my birthday (well, they gave it to me when they visited in June, my birthday's in Feb, but who's counting?). Awkward length but I love it.

Here's a better photo of the dessert by itself. Yes, I truly only had a few bites, much to DH's chagrin -- he claims I "forced" him to eat too much of it (because I wouldn't eat much of it). Luckily, just not my thing.

Got a couple of blog ideas rolling around, but everyone loves a photo shoot.

Still laughing at what Ratfinkrob said. I must confess, I'm sitting here amusing myself greatly with diferent ideas for blog comments... but none of them get a G rating... so, you'll have to use your imagination...

The cats are adorable! Especially the snuggle pic over the dog crate. Don't know how you resisted the dessert. Not sure I could have!

You have definitely found a mushroom. If it has a sticky cap it is a stinkhorn, I have seen them before but not one that looks just like this. From a quick google search this would appear to be of the Phallus species. Don't laugh look it up yourself. Real life is so much better than fiction :)

A lovely salad to share

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I often have to make 2 dinners in the summer - one for DH, who won't eat salads & one for myself, because I crave salads - especially in the summer. I swear that msn will die soon because of his eating habits & lack of exercise, which will make me very unhappy.

Anyway, I wanted to share tonight's because it was so satisfying & yummy:

4 oz cooked shrimp
2 small or 1 large cucumber, sliced
Lots of romaine - seriously, I just fill up a big honkin' pasta bowl
1/2 cup blueberries

Sprinkle with salt to taste

Make a simple salad dressing with:

1 tsp olive oil
2 tsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 garlic clove, minced

Whisk it all together. Pour over salad. Voila! Enjoy.

That sounds spectacular! May have that for dinner tonight! Love shrimp and happen to have some of them in the freezer and have boatloads of cucumbers right now coming out of the garden. Thanks for sharing. emoticon

I'm allergic to sea food, so I can't eat the salad, but I'm always looking for a simple, light salad dressing recipe. I'm definitely writing that down!

Thanks for sharing,
Karen

One ingredient challenge

Monday, July 18, 2011

So I read something today that struck a chord: that the best fat burning foods have one ingredient. IOW, whole foods.

It's not like I don't already know that, even if at times I fight against it, but somehow that article struck a chord. My diet will never consist of only one ingredient foods - I'd have to give up chocolate! The horrors! But it is something to strive for and keep thinking about.

Most of my diet DOES consist of single ingredient foods . . . But not all. I still eat the occasional bowl of pasta - when was the last time you saw a pasta tree out in the wild, after all?

I rarely eat bread, but I enjoy an Ezekiel English muffin from time ti time. I don't plan on giving any of that up - just think some more on my choices.

In other news, I got The Green Smoothie out of the library recently. I've flirted with green smoothies on & off for several years, but I've been making up a big green smoothie (no milk!) for several days now & it's really saved my butt, literally & figuratively. Cause I've been soooo hungry (looks like the AWOL TOM is maybe about to make an appearance after a week & a half of playing hide & seek).

In the past, mostly I've added greens to my fruit smoothie with some form of milk - almost like a green milkshake. Now I'm going whole hog, so to speak, with just fruit, veggies, & greens. I usually drink a glass & put the rest in a shaker bottle to sip from throughout the day.

What multi-ingredient "food" do you think you could do without? Have a favorite green smoothie? I'd you try the pancrepe - & what did you think?

I eat mostly raw nuts, fruit, and vegetables. I do eat whole wheat bread and pasta. I don't drink, smoke, eat meat, or cheese; so everyone just back slowly away from my bread and no one has to get hurt :) Oh I almost forgot, I do have a stash of dark chocolate. I don't think anyone is going to be able to pry that out of my hands either.

Pancrepe is still on my to-make list. I'm like Sheila, probably 80% whole foods at this point. The food (and I use that term loosely) that I should give up, but probably won't, is Splenda. I like Ryvita too - but I could give that one up if I had to.

I don't like having to clean the blender. Lazy, right?
Pancrepe?

SHEILA1505 7/18/2011 10:46AM

I read that article too and I reckon I'm 80% clean eating - have to count cheese and yogurt (maybe) as more than one ingredient I suppose - and the RyVita

It was a great list of ingredients, though, wasn't it!

I don't know what multi ingredient food I could do without. I certainly couldn't give up chocolate or pasta or Ezekial English muffins. Not a smoothie fan, so I haven't made a green one.
I am planning on trying out the pancrepe this morning. I'll get back to you on it.

Restaurant NSV

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Yesterday was a lovely day, starting off with my long run and farmer's market visit. Our initial plan was to go out for sushi, but I decided we would drop off stuff at Goodwill and then go to an Italian restaurant I'd wanted to try for a long time - one we had a coupon to which would expire in a couple of months.

I donated 3 bags of clothing, shoes, & jewelry - and we donated our old microwave, too.

Dinner was very good & I am happy with my choices.

I had a portabello neopolitan appetizer - grilled portabellas stacked with fresh tomato & goat cheese & drizzles with balsamic vinegar. DH & I shared it.

I had a mediterrean pasta for my entree: pasta, shrimp, artichokes, olives & tomatoes. Very good & not a huge portion. There wasn't enough for 2 dinners for me (probably should've been), but I did leave some.

The NSV came at dessert- I didn't feel the need for one, despite the almost-flourless chocolate cake on the menu. Which worked out well, because DH wanted the dessert special: pistachio gelato with jam filling & covered with chocolate ganache. I had about 4 pretty good-sized bites of it, but it's not really my sort of thing so it was easy to resist (for me). Good thing there was nothing chocolate peanut butter on the menu!

I had a square of dark chocolate with chunky peanut butter spread on it with my after dinner coffee.

Yum!

LOL--chocolate & peanut butter is my weakness, too. emoticon

I REALLY need to clean out stuff and take it to the Salvation Army. With 3 growing kids, you KNOW I always have stuff to get rid of. LOL.

It was a good day!! Dinner sounds great. I'm not an ice cream/gelato fan, but for some reason I really like spumoni so I would have needed at least a bite of that gelato. I'm with you on the chocolate peanut butter combo :-)

Thank God for NSVs!

Saturday, July 16, 2011

I woke up feeling thinner this morning. Maybe it was just a full night's sleep after a couple of restless nights, but my collarbones seemed a bit more prominent, but who knows?

Loving running before hitting the farmer's market (which is in the same park). No chafing today! Wore a running skirt with attached capris & applied some body glide just for giggles anyway.

Headed out with the idea of doing 6 miles, but I was good with doing less, too - I'm not training for a race right now. Had a great 6 mile run with an average pave just a bit below 12 min per miles, which frankly really surprised me cause I certainly didn't feel as tho. Was running at that pace - which isn't bad for me, since I'm a slow runner.

Then Paula Radcliffe told me I'd me I'd run my fastest mile since I've been tracking with the nike+ sensor - only the tease didn't tell me how fast it was!

When I went to change, I realized that I'd brought my freshly washed shorts & we all know how those can be a struggle to get on when you're all sweaty (or just in general cause they tighten up in the wash), but they pulled right up no problemo.

Got yummy stuff at the farmer's market & 2 new catnip toys for the boys from a local rescue, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

And am patting myself on the back for NOT "treating" myself with any of the awesome looking baked goods at the farmer's market. I think some day I will, maybe when I'm doing 8 miles or more . . . Maybe. The farmer's market runs thru Oct & I'm so enjoying combining it with my long runs.

Male it an awesome weekend!
