Goal Update

Sunday, August 03, 2014

Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. Benjamin Franklin

July 21 I started writing out some goals for the last 6 weeks of the summer. I have had a mixture of success and letdowns with my goals. But I am okay with that. I am focussing on progress and not perfection. And I have made progress. So here is a review of my goals.

Fitness - I haven't always made my daily goals, but I am more active than I was before July 21. I may not get out for a walk on all the days I had planned, but I am doing some fitness activities on those days (gardening being one of my favourites).

Nutrition - I have been making up my menu plans for the weeks, even if I don't always stick to them. Sometimes life just throws challenges into the days that results in changes. This past week I had to call the ambulance to take my Mom to emergency. She was dehydrated and her electrolytes were off, so she was there 6-7 hours while they checked her out and got things back on track. Needless to say, that day we did not stick to our planned meal because we were not at home. And with this nice weather we have opted a couple of times to join friends at the park for an impromptu picnic.
With all the fresh fruits available this time of year I have been enjoying getting my 5-7 servings of freggies almost every day. I have a small garden plot in the backyard, and have been enjoying a harvest of fresh cucumbers, baby carrots, and green beans.

Rest - I have been mostly getting 7-8 hours each night, except on the very warm nights, when it is difficult to sleep.

Organization - Well lets just say this is a challenge! But I am not giving up!

Journal- Managing to enter something in my journal about 3 times/week - more than I was doing before.

Spiritual - There has been progress - more focussed on getting into the Word than I was before and I am enjoying doing my study of the book of James. Need to work on consistency though.

Over the last few weeks I have tweaked and modified my goals to suit me. I am pleased with my progress, but mostly I am happy just for hanging in there.

Sorry about your mom - hope she's doing better now... I understand these types of situations... I was helping an elderly lady here with her medical needs... we were at the hospital for various things - planned and not planned, at dr appointments, etc... and she really liked to eat out every time we had appointments, etc... yeah - well, I definitely understand days like that.

Love the book of James! So practical! I'm working my way through Judges at the moment...
Have a great weekend!

I do agree. You should be kind to your self and not beat your self up because you didn't meet your goals.
You are taking care of your mom and that sometimes changes your whole day and that's just life.
So glad to see what you wrote and it gives me hope for myself. I haven't written out goals in months and you have inspired me.

A Week Review

Monday, May 19, 2014

Or should I say "weak" review. I accomplished some goals, but hardly made a dent in others. But I am alright with that. At least I made a start towards them. So here is a review of last week's goals.

Pre-trip:
Fitness
1. Go to the pool 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) and water walk for 1 hour emoticon

2. Go for a 10 min walk 3 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday) emoticon I actually did better than this, as I walked on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday!

Nutrition
1. Plan 5/7 days main menus per week emoticon Not so good- no planning.

2. Drink 8 glasses of water a day emoticon Got most of my 8 glasses of liquid on some days, but some of it was sugary drinks - like ice tea. This coming week I will cut out the sugar and focus more on cool refreshing H2O!

3. Eat 5-7 freggies a day emoticon Most days I managed between 3-5, so need to plan more freggies into my days - having a menu plan would certainly help.

Rest
1. Get 7 hours of sleep a night emoticon I averaged 7 hours a night, except for one 6 hr. night.

Organize
1. Tidy up the 3 hot spots in my bedroom (I have already done 2) emoticon Still working around the mess - I am such a procrastinator!!

2. Maintain my hot spots by doing a nightly quick cleanup emoticon but at least I have been maintaining what I have and haven't lost ground or clear space!

3. Make a list of things to do before the trip emoticon

4. Go shopping for things on the list - emoticon no shopping...yet!

5. Make a list of things to pack - emoticon

6. Have suitcase packed by Friday afternoon (May 23) - emoticon Brought my suitcase up out of the basement today

So although I didn't accomplish everything, at least I did something. And I know where I have to pick up the pace for this coming week.

emoticon emoticon Bring it on!!

Great job on making goals and then working to meet them! We can't always do everything we plan; but, having a plan is half the battle.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You actually accomplished a fair amount. We also have room for improvement. You've identified those areas and are moving towards them. Great.
I already see you walking the promenade deck everyday on the ship and dipping into that pool regularly (if it's indoors).
Have a successful week.

See you when you get back.

Keep up the great work!

You did accomplish a lot, Jineane! We all procrastinate I think, I know I am definitely guilty of that.
You are going to have such a fun trip, I am so excited for you! You must let us know how your trip went after you get back!

Getting Off The Sidelines

Friday, May 09, 2014

For a long time now I feel like I have been sitting on the sidelines while all my spark friends race on towards their goals. But after reading a blog by my spark friend Fusionfitness3 (Maria) I have been inspired to write out some goals for myself. As I will be leaving for my trip (Alaska cruise) in 15 days, I decided to make goals for the next 2 weeks (pre-trip goals) and for the week of my holiday (trip goals).

Pre-trip:
Fitness
1. Go to the pool 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) and water walk for 1 hour
2. Go for a 10 min walk 3 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday)

Nutrition
1. Plan 5/7 days main menus per week
2. Drink 8 glasses of water a day
3. Eat 5-7 freggies a day

Rest
1. Get 7 hours of sleep a night

Organize
1. Tidy up the 3 hot spots in my bedroom (I have already done 2)
2. Maintain my hot spots by doing a nightly quick cleanup
3. Make a list of things to do before the trip
4. Go shopping for things on the list
5. Make a list of things to pack
6. Have suitcase packed by Friday afternoon (May 23)

On the ship:
Fitness
1. Walk 20 min 2 times every day

Nutrition
1. 8 glasses of water a day
2. 3 meals & 1 snack/day snacks to be fruit or veggies
3. Eat 7-10 freggies a day
4. No grazing, no seconds

Rest
1. Get 7-8 hours sleep a night

I feel good that I have something to focus on for the next 3 weeks. When I get back from my holiday I will review my goals and make plans for the month of June.
Thanks Maria for providing the motivation. I needed a kick start!
