looking good

Friday, October 07, 2011

so everything looks good with the pregnancy!!!!! thanks to everyones kind words and encouragement....i will keep doing my food tracking and walking and not focus as much on weight loss but still try to keep up the healthy lifestyle i had started to maintain. the eating wont be so hard right now since the nausea is setting in and right now the fatigue isnt to bad. i will still be on sparkpeople since baby fit isnt really as motivating and i have found a couple of pregnancy teams on here also. thanks again!!!!

found out i am expecting.....

Sunday, October 02, 2011

so i just found out that i am pregnant and i am excited but nervous since i just had a miscarriage in july. i have been doing really good on sparkpeople with food and fitness. i went on the baby fit site and i understand that i am supposed to be more focused on keeping myself healthy but the site isnt the same as this is. i know that i have a lot of weight to lose and i am not doing it unhealthy. i guess i am at the point where i dont want to stop doing what i have been doing but i dont know how many calories are ok to be burning since when i work out it is more about the calorie burn. now it seems like the baby fit site is more like just get in your 15 to 30 min of fitness and eat healthy. it also upped my calories by a lot!!!! i dont want to do anything bad for the baby but i dont think i was really doing anything that would cause harm....guess i will have to see what the dr says!!!! i miss the spark site....so anyway after my appt with the dr i will either be back here or stay on the baby fit site and be back after the baby is born!!!

I will say, when I first found out I was pregnant, I immediately went over to babyfit. I found that they overstate the calories you should be eating. They say you only need to eat approx 300 calories more (than your highest calorie range) than normal. I would follow the same guidelines they have for breastfeeding which is, for every 45 minutes of high intensity activity, add 100 calories to your total. I know you are "eating" for two now but you don't want to go overboard because you could run the risk of GD later on. I kinda did what I wanted and got to a really high weight (topping off at 220 before I delivered) and it's been hard but I'm just 4lbs shy of my pre-pregnancy weight. My daughter will be 9 months tomorrow. Luckily I didn't have any issues during my pregnancy. I think you will be okay with moderate exercise and eating at least 300 more calories than normal. Good luck and Congrats!!!!

    Book recommendations:

"The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" by Henci Goer
"The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin (aimed at dad's, partners & Doulas, but it's got such great information I tell my moms' to read it too)
"Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn (4th Edition): The Complete Guide" by Penny Simkin

The important thing is to be sure to keep a balanced diet full of good nutrients, recognize that you're body is going through a lot of changes and not to restrict yourself too much - you want your focus to be health, not specifically weightloss, when you're pregnant. But yeah, get your caregivers' recommendations (I'd recommend a midwife over a doctor if you can find one, unless you have *other* factors that make you high risk - obesity is NOT a high risk factor, just something to be monitored).

Hope that helps. :) Congrats!
From your friendly neighborhood internet doula.

congratulations on the new bundle of joy that will be coming into your life. May the Lord keep you both safe in the months prior to his/her arrival.
I hope you will be able to return to SparkPeople, but I would definitely talk to the doctor first. Better a few extra pounds now than a less healthy babe later.
Enjoy this special time in your life, and again congratulations!

changing it up

Monday, September 12, 2011

so it has been almost a month since i started sparkpeople and i have been very faithful to my treadmill and to tracking my food and fitness. i even did my measurements!!!! (still have to get the courage to get a pic on here) so i have lost 3 pounds and i know we arnt supposed to go by the scale, but it is frustrating. i really thought that i would have lost more than that by now. im not quitting by any means, it is just frustrating. so i put in a new piloxing dvd and i think i have a loooong way to go before i can do that. i was on the floor saying what the f&*@ am i trying to do....i couldnt even figure out what the instructor was doing!!! so i put in good old turbo jam....yes it is like 7 yrs old ( the dvd looks new cause i have only used it a couple of times...hehehehe) but it does what chalene says....so i am going to do my turbo jam and my walking dvds and my treadmill and see what happens. as for st....sorry but i hate it...i know it is good for you and helps with calorie burn but at this point i am just proud that i have worked out for a month straight everyday....ok i think i have taken 2 days off...but anyway it will come. so here is to a new week and another month and hopefully less of me!!!!

You are doing great! I know what you mean about strength training, I've always been lazy about it - and now I'm paying the price, so if you can get a little motivation to do it, please go for it!

You ARE doing well!! Have you taken your measurements yet? I like to do measurements AND the scale because sometimes when the scale is not moving, you're still losing inches, and it takes the sting out of your scale's stubbornness. :)

Getting your cardio in every day is awesome!! If what you're doing is makeing you happy, go with it for now! There is NOTHING WRONG with doing "old" workouts...you've got to find something you like to do and it doesn't matter if it's old or new...just that it gets you moving!! I HATED ST when I started doing it last month...but I'm growing to love it more and more as I'm getting the results. When you're ready, it will be there for you if you want it. :) Again, in the meantime, you are doing a GREAT job!!

I didn't lose anything my first month, so I understand how frustrated you feel, but you will see the scale smile on you soon. I think I am finally killing my plateau of a few weeks now, so here's hoping we both have happier scales soon, and in the meantime, be proud of yourself for doing a great job and sticking with it!

I know how you feel, when I started I had a 3 week period where I didn't lose any weight.

Sometimes a small change in your eating habits or your exercise routine can be the thing that opens the flood gates of weight loss.

Good luck!
