getting better

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Boy, my daughter gave me a whopping' case of the flu! I'm just now getting over it. Now my 4yr old has it, but he seems to be doing better. I haven't been on the site much because I've felt like garbage for most of the last week and a half. On the flip side, people have been starting to remark that I look "different." I haven't lost a whole lot of weight yet, but I'm looking slimmer even to myself, and that's saying a lot, since my self image isn't so hot most of the time. Even my nails and hair look better since I've changed some of my not so healthy habits! Can't speak much for last week, though, I pretty much ate whatever was easiest and didn't give it much thought because I felt so lousy! Well, I think you gotta give yourself a little leeway when you're sick. Hopefully I'll be back at 100% by next week. God bless!

I made it within my calories and fat for 3 days in a row!! I'm so excited! I also joined the YMCA, and am feeling so good! Haven't blogged in a while because I've been working extra and now one of my little peanuts is sick with flu. She's been sleeping by me, so I'm sure I'll be feeling just GREAT in the next couple of days! I haven't lost any weight in a while, but my clothes are bigger on me! I'm really proud of myself because at work I used my lunch break to walk the stairs and hallways in the hospital instead of just chowing down! God is great!

Good work! Walking at the hospital is great excercise. Hope you don't get sick though, no fun at all.

I just can't seem to get around it that when I work night shift I go over calories for the day! I don't get much of a rest during the day before I go in, so I don't sleep through a meal. Also, I only work 2-3 nights a week usually, so I do feel hungry at the "normal" meal times. I've tried skipping breakfast or lunch and I felt ill all day. I've tried eating three meals with an extra filling healthy supper and I'm still hungry at about 2am. I work from 7pm-7am, and I have to be on my way to work by about 545pm at the lastest, and I don't get home until usually after 9am. I no longer feel that I need to run through mc donalds each morning after work, so I guess that's good, but I just don't know how to solve this problem. I didn't mention that I work at two different hospitals, and at one, the cafe is open all night so I can get fresh veggies, etc, if I want and I usually do, but at the other hospital, it's kind of a free for all and you munch on whatever's there unless you bring in something. it just seems like even when I make healthy choices, I go over calories. I would love any suggestions from any of you!
God bless us all!

This is a tough one! Although I don't work the night shift, I would suggest packing your meals with you. It will take some preparation from your part, but if you get in the habit of bringing enough food, drinks, and snacks w/ you, then maybe you won't be craving other things. As soon as you get your veggies home, pack them in little baggies....then you can just grab them and throw them in your lunch bag. That's been working for me.

I worked night for 3 years in the early 90's. I hated the hours but loved the work. I usually slept until noon and could not fall back asleep. I felt like I was watching life happen.

All I can tell you is what I do. I work full time 8 hour night shifts on Extended Care. The food issue is always a tough one...especially the munching part. Sometimes the junk that gets brought in is tough to turn down.
I make sure I bring enough food with me to work to last my shift...with lots of fruits and vegies. Remembering to eat protein at the meals. I always have water on the go with me...sometimes it isn't hunger, it's thirst....some girls munch all night to keep awake...
I have the best success when I faithfully use the nutrition tracking tool...

feeling good

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Haven't lost any more weight, but I swear my clothes fit better! I've also had a few compliments on how I look, but that could be just that I'm "fixing myself up" these days. What sucks is that just when I was feeling good about how I looked, my mom took some pics of me at my bday party and I looked like a COW!! It's hard to believe that I actually look like that! Oh, well, with help from the Lord, it won't stay like that forever!

off to work

Gotta make this quick so I can get to work, but I bought a new digital scale with a memory, and a pilates video. I'm on my way!!
BTW, thanks so much to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It was GREAT!
