weight scale - an essential tool to success

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

The ups and downs on the scale and how we react to them help us learn more about ourselves and the foods we eat (or don't eat) so that we will be successful after we've reached our goal.

We each have to make peace with our scale, don't we? emoticon emoticon

You are absolutely right. I use my scale as a tool but do not allow it to be the "be-all" or "end-all" of my life. I weigh regularly almost every day and sometimes more than once a day, BUT I never record or obsess about the normal daily fluctuations of the numbers, just try to keep it within a certain range and to keep moving that range downward as I go along. So the couple of pounds that glom onto my body because I didn't sleep well, ate too much salt, or drank too much water don't become an issue. BUT the scale trending to larger numbers rather than a one or two day weird jump is a 'nother story altogether, that requires a whole new assessment of eating, exercise and sleeping habits. That is why I am always thrilled if when I am away, I return and find my scales still in my range and not obscenely higher or trending upward. As a tool the scale is still one of my most useful but it doesn't define me.

a great workout...

Thursday, May 06, 2010

This was my third week of aqua therapy... physical therapy in the pool. What a great workout! The resistance of the water keeps the core muscles engaged the entire time. Love it!

The hidden cost of food... choose wisely

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Not sure what kind of healthy vs junk food people are comparing ... but it's much less expensive to buy and consume healthy, unprocessed foods.

I reviewed our grocery receipt and noted several purchases of "junk" food and processed food that we didn't "need". Eliminating those purchases would have saved money. A portion of that savings could have been spent on more fruits and veggies for healthier snacks.

We know what foods are good for us to eat... why don't we stick to what we know? I think it's more than just education.... it's dedication and determination to do what is right for our bodies.

Not only are we saving money when we purchase healthy food choices, but long term we won't need to "repair" the damage made to our bodies and health from junk food. And, we won't need to pay the hidden costs (medical/etc) that accompany our poor choices.

Choosing to consume junk/processed food seems to be an excuse for unhealthy habits. It's easy to place blame on someone else. We are all responsible for our own food choices. Don't blame food suppliers for the cost of different foods (healthy vs unhealthy).

We all choose how to spend our own money.
Make good decisions and juggle your budget dollars to include healthy food choices now!

    Hello Jessie
How are things with you. Just read your blog about healthy vs junk food and you are so right I don't eat sweet things very often but Michael does which is not helpful. I soon notice if I don't eat enough fruit. As for the price of fresh fruit I do not think it is expensive especially if you don't buy the sweet stuff.

Yep, you're right...although mac and cheese boxes and ketchup sandwiches are not very nutritious, but are really cheap. However, if I eat one large apple and a good sized banana during the day, it cuts my "snack appetite" down and I don't need to eat anything else! emoticon

Moving along...

Good chiropractors and physical therapists are worth their weight in GOLD!

They can diagnose a problem or series of problems and help us overcome and correct any bad structural habits or disabilities... offering strengthening and stretching exercises... so that we are the best that we can be.

I have a wonderful health care team!
