Took a yoga class this morning. What a great way to exercise AND relax. (Yoga is an ancient exercise/activity undertaken to prepare the body/mind for meditation and prayer.)

I wasn't even CLOSE to binding poses, but Yoga is not about what you can't do... it's about what you/your body can do and respecting "that place" where you are.... ah, acceptance.

Acceptance. Accepting and honoring what I can do with my body, with its many imperfections, and yet in those yoga moments it is perfect.

Accepting where I am, in this moment... a new way to think and to be.

I'm still overweight enough I can't even easily get up and down from the floor, so yoga's not yet for me.

But I have 3 daughters, all healthy (didn't want to struggle like their mom did!)...and they all three do Yoga. In fact, my middle daughter teaches kindergarten, and they have a Kinder-Yoga class. She says it's amazing how that class calms her little ones down while at the same time invigorating them for the 2nd half of the day.

I plan to start it one day...good for you!

Again and again (Up late)

Tuesday, August 09, 2011

For a person trying to get more sleep (and who woke up at 6 a.m. today), the repeat performance on the late-night Sparkin' is tough. I'm pooped. Seems like there are few opportunities during the day to take a break to Spark (or read or relax... though I did fit in a 15 minute walk!).

After the walk, I was able to focus better on work. Guess my eyes and brain needed the break. Need to do THAT more often.
The house is peaceful, and there is no competition for my attention. Having the television OFF is a good thing for now.

Our golf league match was postponed (until tomorrow) due to thunderstorms. Since I couldn't get golf in, I decided to go to a meeting that I would have otherwise missed. I just got home from a P. Chef training meeting. We had a fun time and learned about the new products coming with the next catalog. Several attendees brought new recipes, most of which don't fit with a low-carb lifestyle. And, I caved.

The carb damage is done: 1 cup cranberry-chicken Risotto (de-lish!), 1/2 S'mores brownie, 1 pecan tassie, and 3 large cubes of bread dipped in oil and vinegar. A Tassie is like a mini pecan pie (at least it was gluten free). The damage could have been worse, though. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to eat some lean turkey breast before the eating began.

Now it's time to track all that carb-y goodness and get back on-track tomorrow...with an extra side of veggies.

Up late... again

Spent much of the day doing domestic things:
- cooked 3# grass-fed beef (crumbles),
- planned next week's meals
- cleaning the kitchen/dishes/counters/fridge
- weeding the garden and then enjoying the harvest

Finally sat down with the husband (who's that guy on my couch? oh, yeah) at 9:30 p.m.

Catching up and talking about the upcoming week... and now it's almost midnight. Where did the weekend go? Oh, yeah... here and there.
