Baby Bootcamp!

Friday, February 05, 2010

My husband came up with this name the other day and I found it so funny. I have been struggling with sleep to say the least. It all started a few weeks ago and there have been two nights in particular that have completely worn me out!

Last week NO ONE would let me sleep. I drink a ton of water each day so I was getting up to use the bathroom every hour it seemed. On top of all of this my dog, Piper was scared out of his mind because of a bad storm we were having. He was curled up in bed with me and would not leave my side. He was shaking and panting so hard. Then there was my dear husband who was so tired from working hard that he was snoring like a big grizzly bear ( sorry baby but it was true). I asked my husband to sleep upstairs and thought it would help. After all of this going on my little girl joined the club and start rolling around and pressing against me and would NOT stop. The more active she was, the more I could not sleep. Then on top of all of this my blood sugar started to drop and I felt SO nauseated. So I had to get up and get something to eat. Anyone who has been pregnant knows that after you eat, there goes the baby! Moving like crazy, even more than before!

This continued ALL NIGHT until 4:00 am. Then finally I was able to sleep. Fast forward now to the last before last and I am NOT kidding you, it happened again! We did not have the bad storm but the same pattern took place, including my handsome snoring husband! Early in the morning my dog came into our bedroom to come and tell us he needed to go outside and wanted more water. My husband, a true prince got up to help me with our dog while I got something to eat as I was STARVING! I am finding myself getting SO hungry around 2-4 am. It is almost as if the more she moves the hungrier I get. I am going to ask the doctor about my calories because I want to make sure I am eating enough.

So as all of this was going on my husband just busted out laughing and said he has always heard of pregnant women towards the end loosing sleep as if the baby was preparing you for the mid night feedings. He turned to me in the most loving way and said, It's going to be ok, you are just going through Baby Bootcamp!

My nights are not exactly restful but I know someday I will look back at all of this and laugh, knowing that maybe just maybe I made it through bootcamp with flying colors and I am indeed prepared!

That was really cute to read! I love your husband rationale - it makes a lot of sense, actually, from a biological perspective. And your daughter sounds like a real character already. I love it!

I missed this one somehow... I love the baby bootcamp idea! BTW (again, with the anecdotes) - I have friends who had their first baby later in life - I think the husband was 40 and the wife was 38 or 39. Anyway, they were NOT DOWN with the interrupted sleep, so they bought a book and trained the baby to sleep through the night very quickly. He is now a wonderful little 3 year old with very good sleeping habits (ie, the sleep training didn't turn him into a demon!). Let me know if you want the name of the book and I'll find out for you!

perfect title for it. It's true! But, when you're awake with your've got that precious face to stare at and tiny fingers and cheeks to rub and kiss while you're nursing and rocking. AAAAHHH!!!nothing is better or closer to Heaven on Earth than a brand new baby. NOTHING!!!!

Hmmm, interesting observation.. I couldn't sleep because of the sciatica in my back from Danny pressing on my lower back, but I didn't realize that it was the prep for night feeding-LOL- being home, you can take a nap, so I wouldn't worry.. it'd be a lot worse if you'd have to go to work after no sleep...
Kind of ironic how that all went down- TWICE! When it rains, it pours I guess...

I'm sure you'll be doing real baby bootcamp soon!

Babies start exerting their presence even before they arrive, that is without a doubt. One thing that helped me on those nights when pregnancy insomnia would hit was to try a few prenatal yoga positions to help me and baby relax. And if your body is telling you it's time to eat, it's time to eat. Maybe eating something before bed with a little bit of fiber/protein would help get you thru the night. With my first, I had to have a banana before bed every night (which hubby topped with some mint chip ice cream) to keep my belly from growling and the leg cramps away. Good luck and hope all goes well when she arrives!

that was so cute, I know how hard it is to not get sleep and your husband is right your little girl is just getting your ready for when she comes. Start getting your naps in now and as hard as it will be once she is here to take your naps when she is sleeping you need to make yourself.

BTW have ya'll picked out names yet

You bet this is your preparation!! You only get snatches of 1-3 hours of sleep at a time for a few months once your DD arrives, but she will be worth it. So get used to taking naps!!

That is definitely one way to look at it. I remember that I indigestion every night. I had to stop eating 3 hours before I laid down. I sometimes had to sleep a few hours in the rocking chair.

Try to nap as much as you can. I would sleep right after work for 1-2hrs.

Oh yeah, in your last trimester you are supposed to eat more. So just add an extra healthy snack to the mix and you should be ok. How about yogurt with some granola??

You have a a great attitude about all of this! It is SO true....your baby girl IS preparing you for some sleepless nights. And I have to say I relate on ALL fronts...snoring hubby, dog afraid of storms (our dog Molly actually takes meds when storms roll in!), and active little girl in the tummy! Take care of yourself and try to rest, or catch a nap where you can. emoticon

Your sweet hubby is correct! This is baby bootcamp! The last trimester prepares you for sleep deprivation! I could never get comfortable, my bladder was the size of a peanut, I spent the last 2-3 months napping when I could and well, the next 3 months after each child. It is 110% worth it!!

ha! Your husband isn't wrong! God I remember when I was pregnant with Silas, not only was falling asleep impossible, but staying so was as well! Towards the end, last 8-10 weeks, I woke up regularly at around 3am. I'd go out to the bathroom, see my husband up playing xbox (he having only gotten home from work a couple of hours earlier), and have some jello! I kept my house stocked with jello. I'd be hungry, and it was a great way to satiate the hunger, without adding a TON of calories or a heavy feeling to your stomach. Try stocking up on jello snack packs... hmmm... I may need to go buy some during lunch now!

You are going to be a wonderful mum with that positive attitude of baby bootcamp!

At least you don't have restless leg syndrome on top of it all...That's what kept me up nights with my pregnancy...huge painful leg cramps! Yuck!

Baby shower question...

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

I have my first of two baby showers coming up this Friday. This is the one the neighborhood wives are throwing for me. My question is, what is a good gift to get the hostess? I am new to the neighborhood and do not know her too well so I am not sure what she likes. Second question. Do I bring the gift with me or do I give it to her after the shower? I know I may seem naive, but I have not been to many showers and I am new at this!

Thanks for any advice you could give! I am just so grateful they are doing this for me I want to get something nice for her.

I know its a little late, but I usually send the hostess gift after the shower. If it is for someone you don't know that well, try a certificate to a nice restaurant in the area or a spa in the area. what woman doesn't want a night out to dinner or a little spa time???

JENNIFER0807 2/4/2010 2:45PM

hmm... Your gift is a good opportunity to let her know a little about you and your husband and thank her at the same time. I'd say something that can be typical of you guys or something you enjoy. i know you guys like traveling. Maybe you have something that you picked up in one of your travels.

Flowers, wine, or chocolates for the hostess gift. Give it to her right away when you get there and let her know that it is a "Thank You" for hostessing.

Have fun!!!

i would stay away from any food because you don't know what she's planning and don't want to force her to rearrange something to fit your food in. i agree with the flowers idea or the spa gift card. to me, i think sending flowers the day after, or delivering them in person, is the best way to go to say thanks!

You mentioned that you were new to the neighborhood. Have a questioner ready to hand out to your new friends. You can title it "Getting to know you better". Just have a few questions on it. Something like this.
1. If you were to treat yourself, what would the treat be?
2. What is your favorite vacation spot?
3. Favorite color
etc. etc. etc.

This way, you can know a bit about your hostess, and probably would have a good idea what gift card to get her. Plus, you know a bit more about your neighbors. Have a fantastic time, and let us know how it goes!

All great ideas ! Or maybe a nice table wine with a thank you card? And you give it to the hostess when you first arrive and just tell her it's a thank you gift for her gracious hosting of the party.

I've just recently went to mine and the one the shower was given for didn't know that she was supposed to do that and she did turn some heads. It was her first one too and she'd never been to one before, in my eyes not her fault.

Have a wonderful time and congratulations !!

I'm not overly savvy but I would think that maybe a basket bouquet of flowers or some sort of a household decoration would be nice... and I'd say take it with you and show up a lil early so you can give it to her one on one then if she likes it or doesn't feel odd showing it off, she can. :)

A few more pregnancy photos, workout results for 2/1 and goals for 2/2....

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Here are a few more pictures from the series we took the other day along with some new ones. The black and whites are a set of candid shots that we took upstairs in one of our guest bathrooms of all places! LOL! I was upstairs looking in the mirror and I turned around and my husband took my photo. From there we set up the tripod and took some memorable pictures that I just love. Sometimes it is the unplanned moments that are the best!

Workout results 2/1 - NOT GOOD! I did not get my workout in, well I walked for 15 mins but that is all. BAD BAD MOMMA! I did do well with my calories. Today is a new day with a fresh start and I WILL get my 60 mins of walking in today! NO EXCUSES! My problem was yesterday I got a prenatal massage before finishing my workout. Well after the massage I was SO relaxed the last thing I wanted to do was walk!

Fitness - 15 min walk
Calories consumed - 1,526
Fruits and Veggies - only one serving
Fiber - 53 grams
Protein - 123 grams
Water - 100 oz

Ok, so for today! I am going to get my walk in before doing anything else! I am going to take my water bottle with me so that I can make sure I get in my 128 oz, and I am going to eat fruits and veggies in between meals to make sure I get my 5 servings in. My 31 week doctors apt is one week from today and I want to make sure I get another good report! And on a side note....SOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT LOST TONIGHT!! WOO HOO!! We watched the finale for season 5 last night so we are ready! I am making Chicken and Spinach Cacciatore for dinner and we will be glued to the couch from 7 - 9 tonight for sure! I am telling you between the suspense of LOST and 24 I may go into labor early! LOL

Goals for 2/2 -
1. Stay within calorie range - 1,500 - 1,800
2. Drink 128 oz of water
3. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies
4. Fiber intake at least 35 grams
5. Protein intake at least 90 grams
6. Walk at least 60 mins

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, I know we did. We were able to get SO much done! We have painted the entire upstairs and I finally have my workout room painted! I LOVE IT! It is a light lilac gray, a bit darker than the bathroom next to the workout room that we did a few months ago. It looks really nice. I like the bright feel of the room and I think it will be perfect for my workouts after our little girl is born. 66 days until my due date! WOW! It is so hard to believe that it is February 1st!! This year is flying by for me. I have my first shower this Friday. The ladies in my neighborhood are coming together to give me a lunch and a shower and I have to say I am just SOOOO excited! I am new to the neighborhood so it means a great deal to me that they are reaching out to give me this wonderful gift!

My family and close friends are throwing me another shower on Feb 27th up in Dallas that we are looking forward to as well. This will be so special as my husband will be there with me! I will be sure and post the invitations online as they are reveling the name of our little girl to everyone! We have told my parents and my grandmother the name but no one else knows in the family. We are excited about the name as it has a special meaning for us. When I looked at the invitations and was looking at her name it hit me that it is no longer just a name on paper but the name of my daughter. Does that make sense? MY DAUGHTER! WOW! It is so hard to believe. It is hitting us more and more that this is really happening and she is coming soon.

This weekend my husband was able to feel her for the first time. Yes, he has been feeling kicks, punching and rolls for weeks now but he was able to REALLY feel her just as I did the other day. It is as if we are feeling her shoulder, knee or elbow at times. Then other times it is as if she is just on the surface and you can tell where she is. The look on his face was priceless, he said that's my daughter, and then was overcome by emotion. This is all so new to us and we are so happy that we are experiencing this together!

Today I am heading out to run a few errands around town but will work HARD to get in my goals for the day. I have a massage scheduled today and I cannot wait! Those are just the very best!

On another subject not related to anything but we are SUPER EXCITED as the premiere of LOST is tomorrow night! LOL!!! I have to say we love that show. It is the only show I am hooked on other than 24.

That is the update for now! I am looking forward to an amazing and successful week! Now I am off to shop, get a workout in before my massage and then back home for a relaxing night with the love of my life. Sounds like a perfect day to me!!

Can't wait to see the name - we are being surprised on gender so I haven't quite had that revelation yet on the name but sometimes I do, in really crazy moments, think about yelling that name (like if I was calling to them from far away) and it feels weird! I am super excited about LOST tomorrow night also and spent all weekend (we were snowed in) watching Season 5 to get prepared!
