Fitness and pregnancy update...

Thursday, October 15, 2009

I am doing well this week. Am I on track in terms the workouts that I wanted to accomplish, well no, but I am staying consistent with working out each day but my workouts are not what I had planned.

I feel fantastic and my energy levels are high, I actually ran at a 10:30 pace this morning for a brief glorious minute. emoticon Then slowed down to a 12 min mile with alternating walking at around a 17 - 18 minute mile. It felt great but I kept it short, only 21 minutes as the humidity was high here and I do not want to overheat. My second run/walk will be tonight for another 20 - 30 mins. Because the cold front is coming through tomorrow, I am changing my plan for this weekend as we want to be outside as much as possible.

Friday - Walk/run 3 miles
Saturday - Walk/run 6 miles
Sunday - Walk/run 3 miles

In terms of my nutrition, all is well. This morning I had a piece of Ezekiel bread with PB and organic skim milk along with fresh strawberries over Greek yogurt and wheat germ. For lunch today I am having a salad with canned chicken and cottage cheese along with a protein shake mid afternoon. Dinner tonight will be pinto beans with stone ground cornbread. I am looking forward this weekend to grilling and enjoying some seasonal foods such as pumpkin bread! I found a fantastic low calorie recipe that I am going to try out!

I am heading out today to run some more errands to prepare for this fantastic cold weekend we will be having. It sure puts me in the holiday spirit!! I bought my first Christmas decorations for the house the other day, I am crazy I know! But the stores are filled with the colors and sounds of the season and I cannot resist! I just love this time of year!

Well, that is all for now. Just know that I am totally in awe of everyone's support! Your emails and comments make my day and I appreciate all of them so very much!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I will report back on how I did this weekend both food wise as well as my workouts. I am so happy that I am staying accountable during my pregnancy as I think it will help me stay on track.

Happy Hugs to all!

    Jen:

I am praying blessings over your pregnancy and your precious little one. I am at 6 months now myself. :)

I was wondering what "Ezekiel bread" is? If you get a moment, I am *trying* to get better/more healthy about my eating. It hasn't been so good lately. :( The Greek Yogurt also sounds interesting.

Hope you're having a blessed day! :)

I have already started my Christmas shopping...my reason being that when the season is here..I will be able to relax and enjoy it as I did when I was a child. You are so NOT crazy...everyone stresses when they see Christmas items on display because it reminds them of how nutty they get with all the running around at that time of year. Not me...I will (please God) be sitting by the fire with a mug of cocoa or a Sam Adams winter lager and saluting the Christmas season emoticon emoticon emoticon..we may see a little snow this weekend...those noreasters!

And hey, if it makes you feel any better, I actually went Christmas shopping on Monday. I was off work for Columbus Day, so took advantage of daycare still being open and went to the mall. Got a good start on things. But you are so right, the cold weather and smells of fall put me in the holiday spirit!!

Weekly schedule...Let's try this again shall we!

Monday, October 12, 2009

Well my grand plan of staying on track this last week went FAR off track! I did get my walking in but as far as my weight training and yoga, well I dropped the ball. I was out shopping and keeping busy all day and as a result I did not meet my goals.

So, this week I am determined NOT to get sidetracked by all the fun baby shops and thanksgiving sales that are out now! I have my pumpkins and scarecrows ready for the season, I have my fall decor finished so I need to refocus on making fitness a priority each day just as I have so many times. I will be honest, it is hard. I have a ton of energy these days and love taking my walks but picking up those dumbbells is not on the forefront of my mind. I would rather head back over to Babies RUS to see what cute things I can get for the baby. We all have distractions in our life, and it all comes down to telling yourself that no matter what happens throughout the day, before you go to bed, you WILL reach the goals you have set for yourself. So this week I am going to take it day by day....

On another note, the pregnancy is going VERY well. I feel fantastic and so happy! We are becoming more and more excited as the weeks go by! We now have only 4 more weeks before we find out if we are having a boy or girl!!

Hope everyone has a great week! REACH HIGH!

Goals for the week -

Monday - 3 mile walk and light ST with leg work.
Tuesday - 3 mile walk and prenatal yoga
Wednesday - 3 mile walk and light ST with leg work
Thursday - 3 mile walk and prenatal yoga
Friday - 3 mile walk and light ST with leg work
Saturday - 3 mile walk
Sunday - Rest

Good for you Jen! Not only staying healthy helps to have a healthy pregnancy but it has been proven that it helps the labor pains and the bounce back time after the delivery. I was on the treadmill up until my 7th/8th month. My grandmother/mother kept saying...walk that baby on out so she can get here faster LOL!

I'm like you...I want to shop shop shop for the baby...LOL. We don't find out the sex until Dec 1st, but the u/s tech gave us a good guess at our 12-week scan. Hoping she was right!! Hoping for a girl this time!

Girl, I know all about that lack of motivation, but maybe you can use your love of shopping to your advantage and make it your 'reward' for getting your ST done. For example: I can't go shopping til I get this done, so let me knock it out early and I'll enjoy the rest of the day! :D

Good luck, everyone knows getting started (again and again) is always the hardest part! ♥

With all that you have been through lately, especially being sick and then with morning sickness, I know that you will listen to your body and do only what you can do. Going through a lot of changes will make you tire and even sleepy during the first trimester. So here's to your good health and that of your baby's!!!! emoticon

Pregnancy update...

Tuesday, October 06, 2009

I wanted to give everyone an update on my pregnancy and how I am doing but before I do I want to thank all of you SO much for the outpouring of support through comments, goodies, emails and prayers given for my family and I. I cannot tell you what your words of encouragement have meant to both my husband and I. Thank you all for taking the time to bless us in this special way.

I am doing very well. This last month was by far the hardest so far. For those who may not know my husband and I traveled to Singapore and Japan for a few weeks. Before leaving I started to run a low grade fever and I had congestion along with coughing, the short of it, I was very sick. After arriving in Singapore I went to a doctor and was placed on an antibiotic after my test for the flu came back negative. The antibiotic worked but when were heading to the US after our vacation in Japan, the flights, jetlag and extensive travel we were doing got the best of me and by the end of the trip. I was in bed for the majority of the time. I was starting to feel really bad again even after the meds, so I had to go to another doctor here in the US and I was placed on another antibiotic. After all of this I started having your typical morning sickness which made me feel even worse. The good news is that after all of this I am doing well and feeling like my old self again! My workouts have been VERY light, mostly walking and I have started doing yoga as well as my weight training.

We had our checkup with the doctor the other day and the baby is strong and healthy, not to mention VERY active!! I think we may have a little runner or triathlete on our hands! As we were getting our ultrasound the baby was kicking like crazy and was moving so much that the doctor could not get a heart rate reading. After awhile, he/she stayed still for a bit and we were able to get a reading of 160 bpm which is perfect for where I am in my pregnancy! We will find out the sex of the baby in 5 weeks!!! We have been so excited shopping for cribs, strollers and everything baby we can find! Despite the rough time I had last month, it has been an amazing experience for my husband and I.

I will start logging my workouts this month, as last month there were not many to report. I have been eating well and have switched to all organic, which I feel good about. I am hoping for a great week and I hope that I can start swimming again once my ear clears up from last months infection. We have made a difficult decision but one we feel is best. I was set to fly to Denver to see my family and participate in the Denver half marathon along with members of my family. I am not running the race now and because I was so sick last month we have canceled the trip all together as it is flu seasons and I do not want to get on another plane and risk getting sick again. I need to be healthy and strong to get myself back on track and that needs to be priority number one.

I hope to report a strong week in my next blog! I am off to drink my super food green juice and start my yoga!

Blessings to all and thank you again for your prayers and support!

Thanks so much for the update---- I was wondering if you were back to 100% health! I saw your status over the week-end though and realized that you're off shopping, so you must be doing better!
My SIL is about to give birth and just like me ( yes, a gazzilion yrs ago-LOL) she felt her best between 3-6 months! I think your body gets used to being pregnant, but the baby is not large enough yet to be pressing against you so much that you're uncomfortable, you know? I'll be curious to see what you think in hinesight! I like the idea of swimming- my running friend also did a lot of aquajogging- and she felt like it kept her in good shape-- they sell those water MP3 devices now, so it might actually be fun! With the lower back issues you had when you lifted heavy, be careful with those deadlifts-LOL! With baby in tow, your lower back is already being stressed enough!

Please keep us posted as time progresses! I know you'll get another chance to go to Denver... with baby in tow! I think you're being smart...
