Day 57 - Why I heart SP!

Monday, May 27, 2013

I've been sparking for almost 2 months now. I joined to loose 13 pounds. I've lost 4. That's about a half a pound a week. Am I disappointed? No, absolutely not. I wanted to lose weight because I had such a lack of energy. I thought it was because I was dragging those extra pounds around... that, and I didn't want to have to go out and buy new clothes because my summer clothes were too tight!

Even though the weight is coming off slowly, it IS coming off. I know the rest will come off if I just keep doing what I'm doing. I am eating healthier foods, drinking more water and moving more.

The results on the scale aren't monumental, but instead of slowly creeping up, it is slowly creeping down. I am okay with that. I am ecstatic about the amount of energy that I have now. I look for ways to move more. I feel so much better. Not only has my energy improved, but so has my mood. I am smiling big smiles like this ...

... instead of feeling all worn out at the end of the day, I am thinking about what all I can do before bedtime... like, perhaps get in a game of Wii bowling with my kids.

Of course, they love that!

I am planning menus, cooking breakfast and taking my lunch in order to insure that I have healthy choices to eat. My food bills, overall, have gone DOWN because I am not purchasing ready made or fast foods. And I am eating foods I enjoy more than the purchased foods, too!

I have made some new friends, especially on the Putting Foods Up Team, and look forward to seeing what they are up to every day. What a joy to have more positively focused people in my life!

I am thankful for SP and

I really, really do!

Day 56 - Achieving Goals With Balance

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Sparkpeople not only helps with health goals, it helps me stay motivated with all personal goals. I finished and published my third cookbook yesterday. It is a Kindle book (I Can Can Chicken).

Keeping balance is very important to maintaining good health. I can't just sit at the computer. I can't just exercise. I can't just eat right. I can't just spend time with family. I can't just read my Bible. I need to have a little of all of it to have balance.

The motivation and positive encouragement on Sparkpeople, the friends I've already made, the endless resources of information and ideas are absolutely wonderful.

I am truly thankful for SP. I am especially thankful for the encouraging words of the other sparkers who are just trying to help one another along the way.

Day 55 - Still Sparked

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Today is day 55. I have 438 fitness points for the Month of May. With a 3 day weekend ahead and a raised bed garden crying out to be sorted out, I have set a goal for myself to skootch that number up to 555 minutes over the weekend. That shouldn't be a problem.

I am working on my third cookbook for Amazon Kindle. I Can Can Chicken!! I hope to get that finished this weekend, too, which is a sedentary activity. That will keep me tied to my computer a good bit.

I will be brining some venison roasts to make corned venison to can. Lunch with friends tomorrow. All in all looking forward to a great weekend.

I have volunteered to be the team leader or co-leader for Spark Memphis. It is leaderless at the moment. I'm on here every day anyway, so I can surely do that to help my neighbors stay motivated and healthy.

Day 41 - Canning low-fat corned beef today

Saturday, May 11, 2013

I prepared brine and cut up a 10 pound round roast last weekend. I've been brining and flipping the meat all week. Today I'll be canning it.

We love corned beef and this will be a low fat alternative to the fatty canned corned beef I buy in the store. As an added bonus, it will cost about half of what I pay for a can of corned beef.

It will be so nice to have this stocked in my pantry when the corned beef and cabbage cravings hit us! It's one of our standard comfort food meals that I can do in about 10 minutes using the pressure cooker and canned corned beef

Also on the agenda for the day... taking the kids to get their hair braided, working on new cookbook while kids are being beautified, packing for a week away from home (in three hotels), working on an online class, and going to a Mother's Day weekend banquet tonight. I have a 6am flight in the morning, so probably won't be on here until much later in the day.

Life is an adventure and I'm sqeezing every drop of juice out of it!!

40 Days and Gaining Great Things

Friday, May 10, 2013

Today is my 40th day of Sparking. I've lost some pounds, traded some fat for muscle, lost an inch around my waist, increased my energy, improved my attitude, gotten better sleep, and made some new friends.

I came here to LOSE, but I found that I have GAINED far more than I've lost. I've gained all kinds of positives in my life.

I am thankful for Sparkpeople. I am thankful for you for reading this post just so you can encourage me along my way. You are my blessing. Thank you.

You truly have the best attitude to lose weight. I believe having a positive outlook makes your immune system work better, helps to fuel your exercise and pushes you to make better food choices. I go much faster and more efficient in my routine when I am happy.

Thanks for the Spark Goodie! I was just thinking about my own body composition this morning as I tried on new clothes. I have been an exercise nut for many yeats and found it hard to include a greater amount of resistance training. The cardio gives me more endorphins and a feeling of euphoria. Im an attempt to change this I bought a years worth of personal training at my local gym hoping they would convert me to do more strength training. Unfortunately they had so many clients they could bardly keep up with my profile so that was a total waste. I found SP last August and learned how to get a trade off between the two. My thunder thighs have almost disappeared and I am much more solid with have perfect measurements. This has taken a long time. I wasted many years, but I finally did it and you will too! Don't give up as it takes a long time. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
