My gym experience.

Friday, October 28, 2011

Now I've been to the gym before but I had two young kids with me at that time so I didn't get to do much. I had my daughter with me yesterday. She's only 3, but she can play by herself pretty good. I used four machines to start off with. Two of them worked my legs, one worked my arms and the other worked my stomach. I did 3 reps of 15 for each of them. I went to a couple of other machines afterward that were for arms. I knew that my arms were strong because I've carried my kids so much along with all of my stuff. I used the machine for the shoulder press and I didn't realize how weak my shoulders were! I worked on the machines for about 15 minutes and then decided to go upstairs to the treadmill.

I haven't been on a treadmill in years. I pushed the button that said "Weightloss Workout". The workout was supposed to last 20 minutes. It started out at a speed of 1.0. That was way too slow for me so I sped it up to my normal walking pace which was 3.0. Well, one minute into it, the incline went to a grade 4 and a pace of 3.2. I hadn't expected that so I realized the 1.0 was supposed to be the warm up! That went on for a little while and then it went up to a pace of 4.0. I had to start jogging to keep up with it. It continued on up to 5.0 and 5.5. I finally had to stop the machine at about six minutes into it because I was so tired. Needless to say, I'm out of shape! I am now planning on using the treadmill every other time I go and try to go one minute longer than I did last time. I figure that is an easy enough goal to accomplish and I'll slowly get back into shape and lose weight while I'm at it. I'm hoping to be able to get in another trip to the gym this weekend.

Way to go!!! I'm doing the "new rules of lifting for women" book program and am loving it! The best thing is, its a 2 day a week program, which makes it easier to stick to. Plus, it takes the guess work out of if I'm doing the right moves or not.

I'm so glad that you got to the gym! That's the first and sometimes most difficult step!
Jenny, I've seen you do amazing things and I know you can accomplish any goal you set for yourself!
Way to go!!

good job, I'm so proud of you for going. The treadmill is crazy on an incline isn't it? It's amazing how that little bit can push you right over the edge. Sounds like a great goal to conquer it though.

That's how I felt Tuesday afternoon after weigh in! I hadn't stepped on the scale for a week. I knew I had been eating correctly but I was anxious to see the weight loss for that week. I got to the gym to weigh in a little before 5. I went from 208 on the 18th to 200 on the 25th! 8 lbs!!! I signed up for a 3 month membership while I was there. Today is going to be my first day going. I'm actually really anxious to start going. I'm probably going to just use 4 machines today and rotate between them until I have my 3 sets done. After that is done I'm going to go to the church and work on getting some stuff done for our Fall Festival on Saturday. I hope all is going well for everybody!

Way to go! 8 lbs is huge! Don't be intimidated by the gym- I think it's a great idea to start with just a few machines and go from there.

What a roller coaster ride!

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

In January of this year I had finally made it to my goal weight. I absolutely loved it. I felt wonderful! Now, 9 months later, I'm right back where I started. Life got busy and I didn't take time out to take care of myself.

That changed last week, though. My little hometown of about 2,000 people has a little bitty gym. It's nothing fancy, but it's a gym. New owners recently took over and decided to have a Biggest Loser Competition. No gym membership required and no entry fee. It will last for 13 weeks and the person with the biggest lose wins $200. Boy was that ever an incentive for me! I could certainly use $200.

The competition started on Tuesday, October 18th. I weighed in at 5:00pm so I started my no sugar no flour plan on Wednesday. The lady who owns the gym said that the loss is figured in percentage lost, not weight, so it would be more fair. Today makes my first weigh in. I will get there around the same time so my weight will be as accurate as possible. I'm also going to join the gym for 3 months during the competition. It's $35 a month, but I think it will help me tone up. I'm planning on getting off of work and going to pick up my daughter. I'll take her to the gym with me and work out for 30 minutes and then go get my son. The gym has a small play area, but you have to keep an eye on your kids. The good thing is it's restricted access to the gym. You can only get in with a key card. That will make me feel better.

I'm anxious to see how much weight I will lose in the first week. I have tried several times to get back on track but I just didn't feel motivated. I am now! Also, I really think a big part of this time around is that I prayed to God and asked Him to help me through this. I know that He is the One the led me to the blog where I first read about it and convinced me that I could do it. Thankfully He has kept my will power strong and I haven't given in to temptation. I'm so happy that my Lord and Savior cares about me so much!

I'll blog again soon and let you all know how it's going!

Derailed again. :(

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

I got back on track and was doing good but I derailed again. I don't know WHY I can't stay on track lately. I think part of it is the busy schedule with ball games. That's when I got off track last year, too. I need to make it work during ball season, though, because it's going to be nonstop for the next several years. Dale's regular ball season is over. His tournament ended on the 2nd. He did make All-Stars, though, so we have another few weeks of practice. His first one was yesterday and he'll have another one on Thursday. Next week will be about 3 times and the week after will be a couple before his district tournament on the 23rd. If they do well in the district tournament than they'll go to the state tournament in Batesville (which is 4.5 hours away). That will be July 4th weekend, I think. Then football season will start on July 25th. That will last until October/Novemberish and then basketball season will start up. After basketball season comes baseball again. So, as you can see, I need to figure out how to get the plan that I know works to work with my busy schedule. It may be slow going the next few days, but I'm going to make it work!

Jenny, this brings back memories of when my boys were in all of those activities. I always felt as though I should just have a tent on the car because we spent so much time at baseball parks! I always made sure that I brought healthy snacks for me and the boys, packed a cooler. There are lots of "treats" at the concession stand but really cost in terms of money and calories. Other people had great ideas, too, between games walk - that is what I did also. Especially at baseball parks there are lots of other people doing healthy activities. A great exercise is to walk up and down the bleachers while the kids are practicing. If you have kids that are with you and not involved in the games or practice, take them to the playground and play with them. These are really busy times, but enjoy them as they fly by really fast, and then the kids are on to college, getting married, etc. Sometimes it seems frustrating, like you just don't have a life outside of the kids' activities, but they will be very fond memories in a few years, so savor every moment, even those crazy ones! emoticon

Sounds like you need to do "batch cooking" if you have a day off. I find it easier to just toss something healthy (that I've cooked) in the microwave when time is limited. Remember to drink, drink and drink more water to flush out added sodium. Good luck, you can do it!!

Jenny, it's so good to see your blog! It's so easy to derail--and the fact that you'd lost a lot of weight, well, I think that makes it easier to slip sometimes. A false sense of security and all that. Of course, when meals are sometimes on the run, that doesn't help. :)

We're starting another 3-week challenge tomorrow, if you'd be interested. We'd sure love to have you aboard!

Chugging Along!

Friday, May 13, 2011

Yesterday was GREAT! I stayed on track all day!!! I stepped on the scale and had a 1.6 lb loss! WooHoo!!!

Dale's ball game got cancelled after the first inning yesterday because of lightning. He has a double header tonight, but that will depend on the rain. I'm planning on doing the same thing tonight that I did yesterday. One of the parents is talking about having her husband bring pizza so the kids can have something to eat in between their games. I just hope the rain stays away!

I hope you all enjoy your Friday and keep on track over the weekend. I know from experience that's the hardest time.
