The darn-dest thing just happened!!!

You see, I was having a tough morning. I cannot focus at work today to save my life. Got a low grade on an exam last night and I have an essay due tonight. So I'm a little stressed. I declared a time out and decided to step away from my desk and take my lunch break. I drove myself over the Whataburger, hell-bent on getting a hamburger (no fries or drink)!!!

What do you think happened when I pulled up to the speaker?

I don't know what came over me.

I ordered the grilled chicken garden salad....

Yes, I'm just as speechless as you.

A. Salad.

For good measure, I made sure to get croutons, just to let my good decision making know that I'm still in charge of this show!

*mumbles something about healthy living and all that non-sense*

Well, lookie there. I jumped up in rank about 13,000 spaces. emoticon

And I'm drinking more water, making healthier choices, and planning ahead. Feels good to get the ball rolling! This month is almost over, but I'm sure I will be doing better into March and April.

My 2014 Points: 1,126 -- My 2014 Rank: 18,589

As of the start of this blog, the Sparkpoints I have earned since coming back to Sparkpeople is over 1,000!!! I'm trying to find small victories where I can, and already I see that I have done better in just the last couple of weeks than I have in well over a year. So, my Sparkpoints have motivated me today!

I've been away from Sparkpeople for well over a year. I'm going to be 36 soon and I am at the point where I am very uncomfortable in my own skin; particularly in my legs. My body shape is getting rounder and rounder and my legs are getting thicker and thicker. I'm struggling daily with light swelling and discomfort in my legs, mostly the right leg. So, even though I am EXTREMELY lucky not to have family genetic diseases and disorders (YET!), such as diabetes and high blood pressure, I am drawing the line here. I cannot face getting any older and continuing the unhealthy lifestyle I have allowed to develop.

At the end of 2011, I faced and overcame the biggest hurdle of my life - Coming Out. Looking back now, that was the cause of most of my depression and anger. Now, I am happy and very comfortable with who I really am. Maybe too comfortable, because I just let my eating habits run a muck. I indulged in caffeine and carbs to my little heart's content.

Currently, I am working on one of my Associates Degrees, which will be completed this May, as well as another one which will take me another year and a half or so to complete. So stress levels are high. I am trying my very best to get back on track and continue with the life goals I have set for myself. Being healthy is definitely on the top of that list. I will try to blog as often as I can, if for nothing else other than to track progress and re-motivate myself. I am going to try to take before pictures, during pictures, and eventually, after pictures.

Here's to the start of a new week!!! emoticon

Say What?!?

I am soooo happy right now!! I decided to join the 5k 8wk program. Since it is the middle/end of a week, I thought I'd get a head start with a "Week Zero". I thought I'd walk 4 mins and jog 30 secs.

I got to the gym and decided that although, it had been an active day for me, I'd stretch anyway. So I did. Not that I knew what I was doing. LOL!

So after I stretched, I scoped out a treadmill. I got on and selected Quick Start and set it to the walking speed that was good for me. After 4 mins, with EVERY intention to jog for 30 secs, I found that when the 30 secs were over, I still felt OK! I wasn't about to faint or fall face first into the control panel of the treadmill. So, I jogged for the full minute!

I was so proud of myself. I repeated it thrice, as the workout instructs. I'm so happy right now, I don't even know if I can sleep!

Today was an ok day. I'm off work until Thursday, and I honestly had no plans. So I -may- have stayed up too late last night and slept in way to much today. -May- have. ;-)

But I also took Dory (my Beagle-mix) for a little play time in the doggie area here at the apartment complex. Once she finally took care of her business, we went on a 1/3rd mile walk together around the complex. I adopted her on Christmas Eve and got her on 12/29. So this was our first official leash walk. She did well.

In a little while, I'm off to my sister's house for a quick visit, then hitting the gym on the way back! Tonight, I'm making pre-marinated sweet chile chicken breasts with some steamed rice and veggies. Can't wait!!
