Masters Throwdown Crossfit Competition prep

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

i have been practicing for this weekends competition.. cleans start at 75 pounds, and go up from there in 10 pound increments.. i can do 75 and 85.. maybe 95.. that will more than likely be it -- the ladder goes up to 225 -- i suppose there are women that can do it...it was enough for it to be something i wasnt going to enter because the weight was so high but i decided i wanted to be able to try out another competition .....

there are two more wods after this one that i have explained.. they are going to be hard cardio-wise but i will be able to get through them.. i have to be there at 8 am and am looking forward to my teens coming along with me..

Shoreline Crossfit will be sponsored by Reebok for this competition so i think it will be a good one.. heres to trying something new!! ugh!! NERVOUS!! emoticon

NO sugar

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

i have stated a whole foods challenge... (paleo)so far so good but its for sure tough taking away the sugar and processed food. This is a more healthy way to eat that i havent been able to do in a long time.

I had a heavy training weekend. Lots of weight training, some bike and a handstanding clinic (very fun) Its been brutally cold so FOR ME... running outside not an option. It has to be really cold for me to say that!! emoticon emoticon Spring HAS to be coming!!

I did away with sweets 3+ weeks ago. So far so good. Sine I have to have sweet coffee, I use Splenda. Good luck on the Paleo. The latter is difficult for me because of all the biking that I do. I just need my whole wheat bread, yogurt, and cottage cheese.

I have been trying to eat unpressed foods and as little sugar as possible. I think I will check out more Paleo recipes.

I'm with you on the indoor running. It's been really cold here too. I've only been out running once. I'm also looking forward to Spring and wish it would get here soon. Way to go on the challenge. I gave up sweets for Lent because I've been having too many sugar cravings and figured it would be a great way for me to have another reason to not eat them. It hasn't been easy. emoticon

run in with chocolate; followed by a day of self-care...

Friday, February 15, 2013

i wish i could be a person of balance.. mostly i can be.. but its that sometimes... when i just get nuts.. and the 13th and 14th.. it was CHOCOLATE.. i do pretty well with dark somewhat bitter chocolate..i like it.. its not too sweet and it hits the spot.. but with the holiday and buying treats for my family and clients i found myself popping hersey kisses like potato chips.. ugh!!
of course i didn't feel very good about this after the fact.. Thursday was a day i couldnt train.. and that made it worse..

so, my schedule is pretty tight.. i have most of my free time on the weekend.. so today after getting the kids to school i went to crossfit (worked on deadlifts -156 lb -yes!! and squat cleans-- worked on some gymnastics stuff.. "skin the cat" is something i have been trying to get and i did it!! not pretty but i did it!!

then i went to Hot Yoga for 90 min , went to the natural food store (more self-care :)
it was 53 degrees today in NY.. these kind of days are very special right now in February!! soooo, went for a 5 mile run.. sprints at the end.. so, i really worked on trying to build up my competence and self-esteem after really sabotaging my recent efforts.

i have a Masters crossfit competition in one week.. i am fairly nervous about this comp... i havent been back to crossfit for very long.. its a tough 3 WODS.. i have been practicing... i just have to work on my postitive self-talk and can not afford to take a bite of junk that underminds my efforts..

back to tracking tomorrow on the site.. i always track in my training journal.. emoticon

Wow, it sounds like you have a super busy schedule with lots of exercise. Don't forget to rest- that's the time that your body repairs and gets stronger. Good luck with your Masters Competition- is it the Open? Happy WODing.
Positive self-talk can be a goat... have you seen the site Women of Crossfit = Strong on Facebook? It is a huge plus for me :-) emoticon

I usually put "strength training" and choose the one that works best for skill work (like cleans, snatches, jerks, DL and whatnot) for the WOD portion I usually just pick circuit training and enter the time... although with some WODs I think it guesses low. Best of luck tracking. Hope it was a nice ride!

It is in the strength training section, under weight lifting, I think.

As Amandarox wrote, you have to use another listing such as hersolutioncircuit training and go from there, which works as long as the calories you burn ARE similar to those that you really are burning. In any case, you can track the time you spend which may be enough for you.

Sounds great! Yeah, the fitness tracker can be tricky when it comes to weightlifting. I usually just put in circuit training but however many minutes total, but if you have the time, it is possible to enter each exercise.

Tuesday.. making it happen

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Tuesdays are really hard.. i have clients all day long.. starting late morning to 7pm.(got home at 8:30PM). typically i will do a workout after i get home.. IF i am not too tired..but lately i have been falling asleep and then i get nothing workout-wise for the day..

so today, i got myself to the gym and only got in 30 min but this is what i got in:

2 rounds of 50x rope, 15 squats, 10 pushups and 5 jump squats (warm-up)

Press 3x5 at 55 pounds.. very much my weakness but GREAT that i got that in today.. cant miss upper body because i need to improve

3 rounds of 15 box jumps, 12 #55 push press and 9 toes to bar.. so tough, but great for cardio.. i had to leave early due to work and normally i just wouldnt go because i cant finish the workout but 3 rounds is better than no rounds!! so that made me feel inspired

i also practiced a bit for my crossfit masters competition.. ugh!! i am doing this competition because i have been taught that is how you learn.. through racing , competition. an athlete takes it to a different level.. so i will by no means be competitive for this competition BUT i will use the experience..

thats about it.. just a long day but as i write this its nice to reflect on my own personal goals and what my plan is tomorrow..

on another note.. i miss my kids when i work late.. i HATE it.. but i am done for the week.. so i have to let it go

nite nite emoticon emoticon
