Tired Saturday

Saturday, March 31, 2012

I am pretty tired. I broke my coffee maker (my fault) and my microwave exploded (not my fault). I stayed up to research affordable replacements, but ended up paying so much I felt faint. My original coffee maker cost around $20; a comparable new one cost me $31. The old microwave cost $25; the cheapest I could find was $74! This was grocery shopping day so we maxed out our credit card on these two things. These are appliances we use 7 days a week, so I had to replace them. I am mentally tired from the stress so I hope I can go to bed at a decent hour tonight. Lost sleep thinking about the broken stuff last night. I am very motivated to watch what and how much I eat, so that was the highlight of my day- success with this!

The Woes of Being Short and Stout

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

It would boost my self esteem immensely if for once in my life I can find dress slacks and workout pants that fit decently. I wear dresses and never slacks because I can't buy any anywhere. I work out in either baggy, hot sweatpants or exercise tights that might result in a wardrobe malfunction of explosive proportions. There are many catalogs offering beautiful clothes for average height and tall plus sizes, but we shorties are a neglected bunch. That is my lament as I try to decide whether to wear dangerously tight leggings today or roast in my trusty sweatpants. emoticon

I agree!! It is so hard to find clothing when you are short and carrying around some extra weight. I have the same issue! I have one pair of dress slacks that fit me ok in the length but they are a bit baggy!! I have worn them out!! I am hoping that things will be easier once the weight is gone!! Good luck to you and go for the leggins if you are comfortable in them. You are more likely to work harder if you are not sweating like crazy in the sweatpants.

Travel Without Spark?

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I am off to a positive start with filling my trackers every day. In May, June, July and August, and I will be doing a lot of traveling, mostly without Internet access. What can I do to keep in touch and keep my motivation up?

Sadly, no. And I am thinking not to get one because I do international travel and the cost of using my phone would make me faint. I checked with my carrier.

Do you have a smartphone? If so, you could download the SparkPeople app and continue to keep track of your food and exercise.

I Love Food and...

Saturday, March 17, 2012

I intend to make food my lifelong friend instead of enemy. I personally am not one of those people who think of food as fuel, like gasoline for a car. Food has such strong ties to my mother and father to me. They recently passed away, and I have the fondest memories of meals with them. My mom was a fantastic cook, and she passed along her recipes for most of the things I liked, but not too many baked goods ones (because I forgot to ask!). But when I think of cinnamon sugar cookies, I very vividly remember the warmth and wonderful smell of the cookies just out of the oven. My father was handy with the skillet, and he would also take me every weekend to our neighborhood bakery for pies, cakes, and chocolate éclair's. I rarely eat the foods I loved when my parents were still alive, but I do enjoy thinking and remembering. Today was one of those rare days when I thought of the bakery trips and bought myself a half dozen boston cream doughnuts. It would be a dozen before, and I would have had at least 3 of them right away. Instead, I bought a half dozen and had one while driving home from the store (I was not the driver!). Funny, one was really enough! This is a huge first for me, and a sign that I take that I am on a good track to reach my goal once and for good this time.

Sick and Weak

Still have the second bad cold within weeks. I barely made it through a minimum workout at the gym. I have loads of work and responsibilities that are piling up too; very hard to keep moving.

Ah, I hear your struggle with the cold, have been there myself. Sounds like you are wondering if it will EVER go away...! And I bet you resent it because it's dragging you down JUST as you are getting going with bearing healthy, figuring out SparkPeople, etc. (Not very fair!)

I can promise that all this good healthy stuff IS still here for you! Even if you feel too yucky to do much now. Just hang on to knowing it's here, and enjoy knowing you DO have these new, healthy habits and connections building.

To quote Gone with the Wind, "Tomorrow is another day..."
