Big News!

Saturday, November 30, 2013

Hi Everyone,

I've been missing on here for awhile. Things have been a little crazy and stressful, but they are starting to sort themselves out now and I'm feeling a little better.

The big news is Aiden is going to be a big brother!! I'm a little over 11 weeks pregnant and things seem to be going ok so far. It was a really rocky start, but the earlier problems seem to have resolved and my ultrasound last week was great.

I usually post on here the minute I fine out I'm pregnant for support, given my tragic pregnancy history. But this one started off so rocky I had no idea what was going on. First my hormones started to go down and when I had an ultrasound it showed an empty sac measuring a week behind. They wanted me to do a D & C that night, but I was hesitant and begged them to let me wait and go to my OB at Mount Sinai. 2 weeks later I showed up and Mount Sinai for my D & C because my miscarriage wasn't happening naturally and my OB wanted to do an ultrasound first. They found the heartbeats of two babies!!! I was pregnant with identical twins in the same sac! The only problem was that one was way to small and they were pretty sure I would miscarry the smaller baby. Which I did, but it did not cause any problem with the healthy twin. There was a small clot behind the placenta of the healthy baby, but that disappeared a week later and everything is fine now. They had to monitor me closely though because they weren't sure if the twins shared the same placenta. That could cause the deceased twin to continue growing as the healthy twins heart would pump for both babies causing heart failure in the healthy twin. But thankfully that didn't happen either.'

So as usual this pregnancy was a roller coaster of emotions. But I"m happy that things are going ok now. Becuase of my history of stillbirth I will continue to have weekly ultrasounds (they are so comforting) and will be induced early. Aiden was induced at 35 weeks, but this time they are going to push me to 36 which would make my induction sometime between May 19th and 22nd.

It's not all about the NUMBER

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Though I'm slightly disappointed in my 0.2 lb gain this week I am thrilled by the changes in my body that I see when I look in the mirror. I used to be completely obsessed with the numbers on the scale, but I have slowly learned to recognize the NSV as well. For the first time since I got pregnant with my son (16 months ago) I was able to see definition in my arms! I"m so excited. There really is a muscle under there. I"m looking forward to working hard and maybe some more will appear!! My loose saggy post-pregnancy belly is less jiggly and my pj shorts are starting to fall off. So to me this outweighs my negative feelings about my 0.2 lb gain.

I would be lying if I said my nutrition was perfect this week. It wasn't as bad as it used to be, but a few days are unacceptable for the new healthy lifestyle I"m trying to live. So I will work hard this week and track all of my food and hopefully next week I will be celebrating victories both on and off the scale :)

Don't forget it has been your birthday!
I'd settle for that gain over a birthday week, really you should look at it as staying the same, it is quite a nominal gain.
Keep on going though , next week that ticker will be down!

Merry Christmas from my Favorite Little Man

Sunday, December 09, 2012

I can't believe he is already 5 months old. He changes so much everyday and I can't wait to see what he will learn next. He's mastered rolling to the point that he flips over within seconds of being put on his tummy, he loves standing with support and we often have to help him sit back down because he is laughing so hard he starts falling over, and he is starting to sit up with help. I take him twice a week to the early years center and he LOVES to watch the other kids. Every time I'm there he tries something new. What a show off. LOL

Rude Awakening

Friday, November 16, 2012

Yesterday I had my physical and my doctor gave me a very long, but much needed lecture about my weight. Before I went I knew that I needed to lose weight, but for some reason it really hit home when I heard it from him. I was in tears when I got home, but decided that crying wouldn't fix anything, I needed to change my lifestyle and stop sulking and just get on with it.

Basically my doctor said that my pregnancies are very high risk (no kidding) and that the illnesses that I get while pregnant (diabetes and pre-eclampsia) are life treatening for me and my babies. He said that if I even hope to have a healthy baby next time I need to lose weight and be in a healthy BMI before I start trying. I'm hoping to start trying next August so that doesn't leave me too much time.

Here is my plan:

1.) Moderation: I know myself and I know that I cannot cut out treats completely, at least not at this point. So I hope to limit the treats.
2.) Drink 8 - 12 cups of water
3.) No late night snaking
4.) Reduce portion sizes.
5.) Eat n schedule and only when hungry
6.) Exercise 5 - 7 days a week.
7.) Track every bite every day FOREVER!! LOL

This is a start at least. Hello new lifestyle, goodbye FAT!

Oh and here are some updated photos of Aiden (4 months). I always like to end my blogs with a few recent pictures :)

Cross-Eyed

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Aiden surprised me this week by suddenly becoming cross-eyed. It's not constant, but his right eye often drifts in. Mostly when he is focusing on something or is tired.

I took him to his pediatrician whom is well respected as a staff at Sick Kids hospital. So she must no what she is talking about when she says that they like to give babies up to 6 months for it to correct itself. I'm just really worried because it wasn't like this before.

Did any of you experience this with your kids?

He's still so small, so I hope it corrects itself. I have strabismus myself, and remember wearing a patch when I was little (to strengthen my eye).

BARBARASDIET 10/28/2012 1:24PM

My daughter's eye suddenly turned in when she was nearly 4. She started wearing glasses immediately. My son was nearly 6 years younger than she, and on a regular visit to the eye doctor when he was just a few months old, the doctor looked at him and said that he was going to need to have a patch but they couldn't do anything until he was older because they can't test such a young baby. I took him in when he was a little older and they decided that it would not need surgery but when he was old enough--I think he was nearly 4, he did start wearing an eye patch. Originally I think it was supposed to be for a year but he ended up wearing it longer than that. It was very hard, but then he graduated to glasses which he still wears. They were both very far sighted so focusing on anything near caused the weaker eye to cross.

My nephew did this and he also had to wear a patch for about six months and then it went away. Aiden will be fine; just continue watching him. He's beautiful, by the way!!!!!

    Such an adorable baby!

I have a son that ended up having eye surgery when he was one because his eyes did that. I think most kids grow out of it but I would watch him to make sure. My husband and I both have bad eyes so that may also have something to do with it.

Such a cute baby. I'm not even going to tell you not worry, cause that's what we moms do. What I hope does offer reassurance is that my nephew also wore the patch for a short period of time & everything is fine today (12 yrs old). Give him hugs & love - they cause us to worry but bring such joy!

Both my kids did that - scared the daylights out of me - but it corrected itself. My doc said it was really common and not to fret; I did fret but he was right. It went away.

I think they tend to do that...my daughter did that some, but it was just every once in a while. It went away though.

One of my grandson's (there are 5) had this happen. It mostly corrected itself. He had to wear a patch over the drifting eye (during waking hours) for 2 hours each day for 28 consecutive days when he was 4. He may have to repeat that therapy this year, but the "lazy" eye has mostly corrected itself. He's 5 now and no one but his parents ever notice the drifting.

Hope it all works out for you. I know with Quinn, it wasn't awful, but it was an area of concern.

Aiden is gorgeous ! Such a Cutie !
