Half Marathon Preparations

Playlist? Check.

Fuel? Need to pick up tonight.

Clothes? Need to get everything set up.

I read a couple blogs (thank the good Lord for bloggers!) on the particular HM that I am due to run on Sunday. I also saw a slew of pictures (65 pages to be exact) of the prior year's event. Ice pops as energy? No thanks! The organizer told me they did secure some true runner's energy...but I need as much confidence as I can get going into this race. Consequently, I plan to wear my camelbak and bring clif bars and blocks. I've got a system down, and I do not need bad things happening. I had read before that it was hilly. One of the bloggers said lots of up and downhills on the course. I don't mind the downhills to use to my advantage...but the uphills are sketchy. I think I am going to back off and walk these apparent hills so as not to use up what I've got in reserve. As it stands...I still need to tack on 2 miles and I do not see that happening afterwards. Why? I saw pictures of the finish and I just don't see where I can get that done. However...they did change the start/finish for this year....it's at a soccerplex...so maybe I could head for the field and lap it? Sounds good. I cannot promise grand blogging memories post half marathon. I do not know how folks recall such specifics at certain mile markers. You might be lucky to get some thoughts on how I felt at the start, middle, and finish. LOL. I will do my best!

    Best wishes. You have a sound plan and you've done all of the hard work. Staying hydrated during the race will really help. I'll be thinking of you and maybe doing a virtual run with you--I'm scheduled for a 14-miler on Sunday. I'm headed into uncharted territory.

Marathon Training: Week 12, Day 3

Keeping it short and sweet. It was warm. Yay for the clouds on the 2nd half to cool things down for me. Went out in my new Asics. The verdict is not quite in. Need to replace the inserts they use and see what I think. It is looking like they will go back. They did not have the model I have been wearing at the time that I bought them. Sigh. Problem is...I started wearing the current broken in ones in March and after 200+ miles in them...well...they are my favorite. But I need to break shoes in. Nothing is ever perfect. Anywho...

    Sounds like a good run. We have been having unseasonably cool temps---I've run in the 60's for the last week. These are the temps they expect the first week of Oct. It's been great---but I'm bracing for the heat.

Marathon Training: Week 12, Day 1

Set out later because I got to bed later and didn't want to overdo it by running last night and jumping out of bed early today. I took my camelback because I did not want to fiddle with water, and knew it was warmer. I should have had a mid morning snack, but I didn't. Ah well. I brought some Clif Blocks. A nice treat just before I hit an hour. The second half seemed warmer than the first also.

Marathon Training: Week 11, Day 7

I opted to run a Twilight 8k the next county over. I knew I'd add mileage, but it would be a new opportunity and I would ride along with a fellow runner. He set a goal for himself - to finish in 30 minutes or less. My goal - to try and run constant, or take just a few walk breaks when my body said to do so. A couple inclines...nothing terrible...but it sure told me one thing...not many inclines in my training so I will take it easy when the time comes.

Temps: mid to upper 60s, low humidity

Marathon Training: Week 11, Day 5

It was waaaaay too hot for me to be foolish enough to run outside. The hottest day of the summer (mid 90s). The husband and I have been dog sitting, and my neighbor has a treadmill. I don't care for them...but in this case...a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. I had to tweak the pace until I was where I needed to be. I don't seem to push myself the same on the treadmill, so I had to get myself up there.

Temps: Indoors...70s
3.02 miles (with .81 cooldown walk)
40:50 duration (add the cooldown and i went for 56 minutes)
13'29 pace
966 calories burned (this includes the cooldown walk calories)

    I myself am not a fan of the TM, but in the heat and humidity, I choose inside every time! Way to go!

    Nice job getting it done even though it was less than perfect conditions for you! I, too, am bit of a treadmill snob now. I just don't care for them, but you do what you have to do to get it done, right!?!? GREAT JOB!!!
