Time to grow

Sunday, April 20, 2014

My time in the ISG "Engine Room" has come to an end and tomorrow I go back to software management in Com. I am not looking forward to this as I know there is no growth. I am not talking about financial growth I am now looking for that mental challenge I found in the ISG. I found something I enjoyed doing, I found people that pushed me to think and motivated me to grow and challenged me to make something out of nothing. People I look up to, respect and call friends. I found leaders that put trust in the work we did and listened to what we had to say. I am now focused on doing what it takes to find that place again, find that challenge, that push to make me become more than just a paper pusher. I now have created work goals, they are finish my degree, get involved in AFCEA, continue with SharePoint group and continue learning.

Since becoming a civilian this was by far the best experience I have had. (Going away gift from the team and coined from ISG CC)

Note on today's 5k.

Saturday, April 12, 2014

So for my first official walking event i would say for not having the proper technique I did well. I placed 6th overall and finally got to meet some local race walkers including Bert Pickell, SA's local race walking coach. I have a new goal of reaching 11min/mi as I watched the overall winner finish with a time of 35:30.9(tag), avg pace of 11:26. I also saw some San Antonio Spark Team Team there as well. Overall it was a great morning that has me looking ahead at improvement.

Short note to end 2013

Friday, December 27, 2013

Things did not go as planned for last part of Nov and Dec. Dislocated rib is causing all kind of breathing issues and pain. for 2013 I set new highs for myself, 28 mile walk across San Antonio to thank all those who helped me get here, first century ride, back to back PR's in half-marathons and just a lot of riding, and walking with some wonderful people. Thanks to all who made this an amazing year and though I didn't reach 2400 miles, I'll take 2288.82 miles, lessons learned from everyone, fun times and moments to remember, new goals, adventures and challenges are ahead. I look forward to 2014 and doing it all again with you all.

Hope you heal quickly, but it sounds like you didn't let your injury slow you down. Nice job!

Good luck with the injury. Ribs just take time and they are painful. Good luck with the walk.

Your help to get me there.

Monday, October 14, 2013

Though I've gained some weight my overall health and fitness is good. I will be focusing on walking and T25 with a little bit of cycling as I have the marathon next month. Also need to increase water intake and get back on track with eating. I've set a new goal weight of 185 as I feel it's the best place I can be to continue riding and attempt a triathlon and ultramarathon. All I ask is you all keep me on track.

Walk or bike???

Monday, May 27, 2013

Since I started walking it became my go to fitness routine. From time to time I would do a video or go to gym, but walking I could do anywhere and at anytime. My lunch hour turned into how far can I go in 50 mins, leaving time to change back into work clothes. My mornings and evenings were available as well and Saturday mornings turned into, how far can I go after, when I wanted to push myself after group walks. While I am not a racer I see distance as a true test and if I am able to push myself at a speed I consider fast for some distance, then everything I am doing must be working. I never anticipated adding bicycling into my routine that it would become as important as walking.

When seeing a fellow Sparkers, LIVESTRONG2010 and SFLORES216 on the trails riding, my talks with them had me take my bike in for a tuneup and the roads and a new story has begun.

LIVESTRONG2010 is my biking inspiration, coach and riding partner. I can't thank her enough for teaching me the rules of the road and tips that have made me a stronger rider. Because of her I have completed my first century ride and have accomplished something I never thought I could do.

There is only one problem...time. I have the time to do both but what I do not have is the time to do both with my friends. I feel bad when missing Saturday walks with NANNBIRD and TERRYT09, I enjoy the time with them. So there are times I am torn on what to do but I know either choice is a good one.

As for my first organized ride, it was San Antonio Tour de Cure.
