Sometimes you go off plan

Thursday, June 09, 2011

emoticonI had a plan. 60 minutes of elliptical.

emoticonWhat I did? 10 minutes of strength training before crawling into bed.

Yesterday was just one of those days. emoticon emoticon emoticon I don't do so well with heat - part of why I love where I live - and yesterday was a doozy. It was in the mid 90s, and the AC at work wasn't doing so well. They just "fixed" it last weekend. I don't think that word means what they think it means. (2 points for naming that movie). By the time I left, I was exhausted and miserable and still had to grocery shop and make salads for dinner and do school work and I just wanted to cry.

So yeah, not so much on the plan yesterday. But today is a new day, right? It's C25K day again, along with the 100 Pushups plan day. I WILL do it, and I'll feel great!

yes in deed, we all have days like that. emoticon
Getting back up the next day and doing better is truly the goal though. And from your feed you did just that. Oh and keep these nasty storms north of the border will'ya.

Happy to add you in kind as a Spark Friend too.

Keep up the good stuff, let go of the past bad/not so good. emoticon

You've got the right attitude -- move forward! I do feel bad for all of you stuck in this heat wave. Here in Los Angeles we're having June Gloom and it's been cloudy and "cold" (in the 70s). Perfect workout weather, IMO!
Stay cool! emoticon

"The Princess Bride" -- I LOVE that movie!!!

Hey, give yourself points for doing the ST, anyway. Some days, things don't go as planned. So, you make a new plan for tomorrow and try again!

I'm with you on the heat (and I live in Houston -- 100+ degrees lately!)...even inside with the A/C cranked, I seem to generate more sweat during my workouts than usual. The pool is already like bath water (need to call in an ice truck!), and the dog isn't getting the 1-hour walks she used to ('tho, I don't hear her complaining much...don't think she likes the heat, either!).

Remember what SparkGuy tells us: 10 minutes a day, consistently...we can do at least THAT much, right?!

You have to be careful about the heat! It can be dangerous to exercise too hard when the temp and humidity are high

    Princess Bride!

Glad you didn't hurt yourself while working out! When you said earlier that it was high-intensity, then that you only got 10 minutes, I thought "Uh-oh!" What a relief!

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

Oh goodness.

"Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle *blush*

I won't subject you to a link. It's bad. It's on Youtube if you really want to hear it.

I was 20 when the song came out, and I just thought it was sooooooo romantic. *gag* I swear, I want to run screaming when I hear it now!

----------------------------

Still to come:
day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
day 19 - a song from your favorite album
day 20 - a song that you listen to when you're angry
day 21 - a song that you listen to when you're happy
day 22 - a song that you listen to when you're sad
day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral
day 25 - a song that makes you laugh
day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
day 29 - a song from your childhood
day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year

Feeling Good

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

I ran again last night, and boy can I tell today! Though amazingly I'm not as sore as I have been. Something is working!

I'm starting to get back to the point where the "high" is better than the hurt is bad. I love it! I got off the treadmill last night (it's too warm to run outside right now for me) feeling not defeated but victorious! I pushed hard, sweated buckets and felt great!

Now, what does a girl who just ran hard do? Get on the bike, of course! emoticon Yep, after my run I rode for a half hour, plus did my pushups (25 last night... progressing nicely towards the goal of 100).

For anyone who wants a non-weight reason to exercise hard I say this... the feeling after a hard workout can't be gained through food or drugs or most anything. It's better than you can imagine and worth every drop of sweat.

Keep up the fantastic work, my sparkies! emoticon

day 15 - a song that describes you

Hmm. This is a tough one...

I'm going with Pink's "F*ckin Perfect"

(trigger warning... the vid is a bit of a tough one in some spots.)

It took me a long time to realize that I'm fine just the way I am and that everyone who said I was "weird" or a "freak" didn't matter. I wish someone I trusted had given me this message when I was younger, but now I make sure my girls all know it.

Victory at the Doc's Office

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

A little background -- when I was 20 I sought out birth control and my doctor refused to put me on the pill because my blood pressure was too high. Now consider that for a moment - at such a young age, I was a candidate for BP meds! How crazy is that?

I never did go on meds, but that was when I started working out off and on. It would take another 5 years for me to get serious about it, though. And getting BP back to where it belongs is a slow process.

This morning I had a follow up visit for my ears/sinuses and she took my BP.

112/70!!! WOOO-HOOO!

I was PSYCHED! No meds, just good old fashioned hard work!

Makes me quite happy.

In other news, I have to say that I will NOT make my June goal of exercising every day. Yesterday got away from me with physical therapy and errands and school that I didn't really even think about it until my head hit the pillow. I'm sad for that, but not feeling overly guilty. I can still make it almost every day, and I will!

Great job! It's hard to make that kind of change but certainly possible -- and you're so much better off for avoiding BP meds! And I agree that PT counts - I used to be too sore afterward some days for a "real" workout anyway!

It's so great you got your BP down!!

ARCHIMEDESII 6/7/2011 11:17AM

Excellent ! Actually, I went to the doctor's last week and my blood pressure was a smidge higher than it should be. I reminded them that going to the doctor tends to RAISE a person's blood pressure !!!

Of course, then my nurse practitioner said she expected to see an increase because I'm getting "older". harrumph. I'm not worried because I have my BP checked before I give blood for the Red Cross and it's always normal.

And my doctor wonders why people don't come more often ?! anyway....
