quick update and thanks

Saturday, February 08, 2014

Quick update to let everyone know my MIL is doing better.
She's home now with a change of heart meds.
Dr thinks the old one was causing her heart rate to get too slow and skip, then her getting scared over that got her B/P too high.
Bought a new monitor that she can use by herself and taught her how to use it. Makes me feel better she can do that when I can't be there.
Been running between caring for her, Dr visits, and work. Have not been exercising as much as I should but trying to be careful with what I've been eating.
My morning blood sugar has been hanging between 110 and 120 and I'm very happy with that.
Gotta go for now time to start cooking supper and making sure my MIL isn't eating junk.

But before I go want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to me.

Hello, Jeanut...I'm reading with interest your news about your morning blood sugar. I have to test ol' Sweetie's fasting blood sugar, and I think he would be in the same range you are, except that often he's not fasting.

He gets up in the night and raids the refrigerator. He gets up long before I do and makes coffee and pours lots of Irish Cream in it, which raises his blood sugar so that I can't get an accurate measurement.

Well, whatcha gonna do...?

Birthday scare

Monday, February 03, 2014

We went to Dothan to celebrate my birthday Saturday. Got there a little too early for lunch so decided to do a little shopping. While in the middle of shopping my MIL started to feel dizzy like she was going to pass out and said her heart was skipping beats. I checked her pulse and it was fast and def. was skipping beats. We left our cart and headed to the ER. After 5hrs the cardiologist told us she did NOT have a heart attack but that her B/P was very high so they were going to admit her. I'm so glad I didn't let her talk me out of taking her to the ER.
She's still in the hospital but feeling better, than God.
You can imagine how messed up my diet has been with all of this. Surprisingly though yesterday when I checked my blood sugar it was 110 and my blood pressure was 131/68.
Maybe the lessons I've had from Sparks on handling stress is helping out.
I feel a lot calmer this time than the last time we had to spend a day in the ER.
And as for my Birthday, it can wait until everyone is feeling better.

Well, uh, um, happy birthday...? That was quite some way to spend your birthday. I'm glad to know, though, that your MIL is getting care and that things will get back to normal.

And then you can have a good birthday!

Trip down Memory Lane...I was living in NY State and Sweetie was in Texas. He nearly died on his 42nd birthday. Had a dreadful pulmonary embolism, and the clot went into his heart. He was terrified and called me, as if there were any way I could get to Texas. I told him to put his housemate on the phone. I said, "Whoever in that house is the least drunk, take Allan to the hospital NOW!!"

When they got him to the hospital the doctor said, "Why is this man still alive?"

That was 1992. That summer he came back to me to die. He was in bad shape. But that old geezer is still alive despite no end of health problems. Our doctor thinks it's because I take so much care of him.

Too Nice a day for December

Friday, December 06, 2013

We are having some very unusually warm weather, and I'm enjoying it.
Today's high is suppose to be 81 F.
This morning got outside and raked yard then took the leaf blower to clean off the drive way.
It was so nice out there, I wish I could have stayed out all day.
Sadly though I had to go in and get ready for work.
Maybe I'll get back outside for a little while when I get off.

Where are you that the weather is so summery?

I'm here in central Pennsylvania, and it snowed. It's 31 now.

I hope you enjoyed it! Yesterday we got up it was 64 degrees but by bedtime it was in the high 30's. Work up to high 20's ice and snow. We haven't left the house all day.

Dr visit

Tuesday, December 03, 2013

Went to the Dr this morning.
He was very pleased with my blood pressure 120/60 and my lab report
Cholesterol 160
Triglyceride 108
HDL 47
Direct LDL 103
Also lost 6 lbs since last time I saw him.
Only thing I got fussed at about was not taking my allergy meds as often as I need to.
( I knew that one was coming and deserved it)
Checked my sore heel, said it was a pulled Achilles Tendon. Have to be careful with it for a while and no more trying to stand on tip toes to reach the top cabinet.

Needless to say I was feeling great after leaving the office and had a great day.
Only frustration was just an hour ago my MIL told me she was serving pecan pie when we have Christmas dinner with her. YIKES!!!!!
I tried to tell her how bad that was with 500 calories per serving and a lot of sugar.
She wouldn't listen and got mad at me and told me "well you don't have to eat any". Before getting off the phone.
I think I'm going to make a nice fruit salad to take over that day.

husband's health

Monday, November 25, 2013

Thanks to a men's health segment on the Today show my husband did a self exam. He found a problem that we had checked by his doctor right away on Friday. His dr. ordered an ultrasound. He got the results this morning and told us there was a mass and he made us an appointment with a urologist. We had to rush to get ready and get to Dothan in time for the appointment. Thank God it turned out to be a benign mass and not cancer. Something to keep a check on to make sure there are no changes.
You can imagine how relived I was, took all I could do not to cry on the way home.
Please have your husband or other men in your life to do this simple men's self health check.

It could save a life.
