Drums Please.....

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

And the number are in:

Blood Pressure: Old - 128/74..............NEW - 120/78 - WIN!
Hemoglibin A1C: Old 7.5...................NEW - 6.9 - WIN!

Suit size.. Old - 56.....................NEW - 50 - WIN!
Weight...up 12 lbs!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! better be that muscle weight more than fat thing. That is still hard to swallow, even if 100% true.

I managed to impress the doctor who usually isn't very impressed with any strides I make to get healthier. His 1st words were "WOW. You have been working out." Then he said "Keep it up slim! :-)"

I think this call for an adjsuted target weight.... we will see.

Tomorrow is the big day.. I get my yearly physical! It is actually a bit over a year but I wanted to put on a good show for my doctor by having lost a good amount of weight and have good things to report about blood sugar and BP. of course not having a scale (yet) I really don't know what I have lost. If I am in the 270's I will reward myself with a scale.

24 hours to go!

Day 63.. Amazed myself!

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

In a puddle of sweat BUT with plenty more to go in the tank I completed 60 non-stop minutes of Elliptical machine running at an average of 5.5 miles an hour. For me this is an amazing feat... one I will be repeating every week.

To vegan or not to vegan..

As I re-begin to consider what I put into my mouth, a decades old idea keeps fluttering by... go vegetarian. As a card carrying carnivore for aeons this should seem like a big deal, but I really don't think it is. While I love animals and think that the inhumane way many are bred for human consumption is appalling, my major reasons currently are health oriented. The major hurdle I really see is time spent shopping different and preparing/cooking different. I went to www.tryveg.com and got the starter guide.... next stop.... unknown for now.. let's just say, next stop.. Enlightened!

I have actually been in the gym 3+ times a week for 2 solid months today. A Planet Fitness opened up less than a 5 minute drive from the house. It is a perfect combo of pluses... $10 a month, a fantastic commute (so close I even rode the bicycle there today in the 100+ degree weather) , open 24/7 5 days a week and 12 hrs on the weekend days, awesome equipment, new gym smell :-), did I mention $10 a month?

I enrolled in gyms in the past that never saw my face more than 4 or five times. In most cases it was the commute.. too long.. too much time to imagine myself doing something else in that commute time. I may never move from my home :-)

Well, 2 months later and I can see the results already. There is a body under all this that is trying to get out which is very encouraging. It is also great to have my missy as a workout partner. It is a lot of fun!

The lesson for me is a close gym is my motivator.

Good for you, my gym is across the street and I have to drive there because the street is dangerous. Best of luck on your journey here!
