Finally back.

Wednesday, June 04, 2014

I am going to get my health together and weight under control. I went to an exercise class at the Senior Center yesterday. Today I was supposed to take my youngest granddaughter to the library reading program but she did not want to go. I went to the store and bought some new gloves for riding my bicycle and will start that tonight. My husband and I will ride our bicycles. It is so hot here during the day that we will go in the evening. Today it is supposed to 105* outside! Yikes! Too hot to do much but drink water and eat ice.Too hot to eat anything but fruit and veggies!

Goals for 2013

Monday, December 31, 2012

I have not written a blog for a long while but these last few days I have been going over what I want to do this coming year of 2013. That being said here are the goals I would like to accomplish.

1 To read my Bible and pray daily
2. To memorize a verse of scripture a week
3. To lose at least 1 Ĺ pounds a week
4. To exercise at least 15 minutes daily
5. To cook 1 new recipe at least every other week
6. To talk to or visit my own children and grandchildren at least twice a week and pray for them daily
7. To call or write to my siblings once a month
8. To practice my sign language 2 or 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes each time

I do alot of this now but want to add the rest to my life. Expecially communicating to my siblings.

I used to be in one a few years ago and I think I need the accountability again.
I will also be praying for all of you my dear sparkfriends.

3 Miles!

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Today I walked my first 3 miles. ( Well actually, as I think about I did walk about 5 miles a few times in my life but that was about 15 years and 65 pounds ago! lol )

Early this morning (6 am) my husband had to have some lab tests done at the hospital lab. I had him drop me off about a mile from the hospital and I walked to meet him at the lab. We had a light hospital breakfast afterwards he went on to the senior center to play pool, and I walked from the hospital on to my daughters house for a short rest and to see my granddaughter and then on home. About 3 miles exactly!. I have been working up to 3 miles for a few weeks. I had not walked that much in so long. I hope to one day jog that far but I am not sure I am ready yet. It took a bit over an hour for the walking. About 1 mile of it was up hill and the other 2 were either level or down hill. But I did it!

My daughter is about 100 pounds heavier than I am and for the last five or six weeks, (since school let out) we go up to the college and walk the campus at 6am. Together, we have worked up to 2.5 miles.

Right now I am feeling very proud of myself. I hope the scale will show improvement but even if it doesnít I am feeling great! Tomorrow I have my 6 month dental cleaning at 730 am. And I am going to walk there. Perhaps about 3 miles there and if I am up to it Iíll walk back home. If not Iíll call my DH and have him come and get me.

Good for you! Please do NOT let the scale rob you of your positive feelings! You are making progress... so much more important than ANY number on the scale! Hopefully it'll go down, but if not... remember how great you felt after your three mile walk!!!!

1 year with SparkPeople!

Sunday, February 05, 2012

Today it is one year since I joined Spark People. I love it. I have not lost much weight but I have learned alot about health, nutrition, and life.
Both my husband and I do not eat any white flour, white sugar, white rice, white potatoes anymore. I do not drink sodas anymore either. I have increased my fruit, vegetable, and water intake. I have tried to exercise on a treadmill at least 10 minutes a day. This year I am also trying to read my Bible and pray every day. I have also started a journal notebook that I write in a few times a week. I am more aware of what goes into my mouth than ever before.
I feel good mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. This year will be a better year. I have started to organize my house and my life. I am finally starting to do things for myself. The next thing to do is start a real exercise program. Now that the weather is beginning to warm up a little I want to start walking or riding my bicycle outside. I also want to get the DVD from here and start working on that. I have just ordered the new SparkPeople cookbook.
1 1/2 years ago when both my parents died prety suddenly, I was the executor and it has taken a toll on me. I have not talked about it much but I have sort of frozen and been at a standstill. I had moved to be close to them about 15 years ago so I see the house that I grew up in daily. My younger sister lives there now. I am confident that this past year has been a year of healing and now I can and will move on.
My husband and I have recently joined a new church and are making new friends. Life is good. I am ready to start my second year with SparkPeople with a zeal for life and health. 2012 will be a great year!

Hi JBlossom, Belated congratulations on your 1st Sparkiversary! I "liked" your blog! You sound like you have come such a long way, for the better! I too am trying to get organized (inherited many of my godmother's belongings almost 8 years ago and only now dealing with them--they had been in storage). Like you say, there is a time for everything, in its own time! Good luck. I'm so glad to be able to share this journey with you! How's the dog walking going? emoticon emoticon emoticon

Congrats on the first year. Hopefully one of many! I understand about your parent's house. I was also executrix, and it took me 2 years. Too many memories. I needed to work it out on my own time. In that time, it seemed I was in limbo.

It is amazing when God finally says, ok, you've put in your time - now move on! Spark for me the last year was amazing, too. I am a new, heathier me.

"Gingerbread" houses 2011

Monday, December 12, 2011

Today my kindergarten students decorated their "gingerbread" graham cracker houses. They had a great time. Most of them brought some candy to share. I brought some too.
I put the houses together last week and today they could hardly wait. I had put them on red plates with frosting and today they each had a plate of candy to put on the house with their own little bowl of frosting while I made the trees. Tomorrow when they are set and hard enough not to fall apart I will wrap them in bags and send them home.
I have been making these with my students for about 12 years. The first year that I made them I was teaching 2nd grade and one of my students' parents bought all the stuff and showed the whole class how to make them. Since then I have made them with each class no matter what grade I was teaching.

Don't they look great!!

Beautiful! The red plates set them off nicely. Thanks for the cookie! The virtual ones are calorie free. I read a thing about inagining yourself eating one can actually be satisfying.
