Today I started out on a good foot. I've been struggling with a scratchy throat that I have had all weekend, but had decided to go back to the gym. So we put on our pedometer and headed to the gym. We went this morning and I just did the elliptical trainer for 30 minutes and 5 minute cool down backwards and 20 over head presses for the upper arm . Got back home and after lunch decided to take the dog for a walk and walked another 8,528 steps for a grand total for today of 16,532 steps. I've stopped with the pedometer at 3:30pm. So not tooooooo bad, I'm getting back on back. ![]()

Great job on the restart! I'm trying to learn to not let little setbacks turn into big setbacks myself! Have you seen the Dog Whisperer (Cesar Milan). His advice is great for "training dogs" and he encourages us to walk our dogs MUCH more. Great advice for getting fit!

I have been going back and forth for some time now about drinking something other than water. I was wondering if I drink my 10 - 12 cups of water
and have more time left in the day that i could drink tea, coffee, hot chocolate?
I have been drinking just water for about 12 months now and I think I want change. Is that ok? or should I just stick with water.

Well I always drink my water everyday but I also love Ice Tea and drink that and also one cup of coffee a day and also any other drink that does not have tons of sugar in it. But those are extra which do not play a roll in my water.

I was just like you. Only drinking water. Now, I've added a cup of coffee every now and then.

I think you can drink other beverages as long as you get your recommended water quota in each day. I drink 3 liters of water every day. It is the first think I open every morning. Once I have completed that I will drink tea, diet Dew, Milk and/or other drinks. You need the water to flush your system. Other than that just keep it low in cals, carbs, sodium and you should be good to go. Just remember to track it in your nutrition tracker. Also remember that caffien is a diuretic. I've adjusted my drinking to one cup of coffee in the morning and maybe a half a cup of nonfat milk with bran flakes until after I swim. Then I take my high blood pressure pill so I'm not getting in and out of the pool. I have all afternoon and evening to drink my water, which I sometimes flavor with lemon or I drink green tea with dinner.Since I'm on a no starch and no sugar diet per my doctor, he's thrown down the gauntlet as to what my choices are. I'm not even allowed sugar substitutes. The upside to all this is that flavors are much more pronounced! Fresh means really fresh!

There are lots of no caffene, low calorie things to drink. Even some of the Crystal Light mixes you put in your bottled wtare are really good and add some nutrirional value. I allow myself a cup of coffee, just because I like coffee and its not a habit with me. you're doing great on the water though. It's harder for me. Report Inappropriate Comment |

You are doing fine! Realistically anything decaf can count towards that water allowance so heck if you are getting in 10 glasses of water PLUS anything else - kuddos for being ready to float away! Report Inappropriate Comment |

I make sure I have my 8+ cups of water and then enjoy a cup of coffee and sometimes a soda. My key is that I make sure I have 6 cups of water done by noon so that I will have my 8 or more by dinner time!

10-12 cups is quite a lot of water (80-96 oz) so if you are getting that you are clearly doing well water wise. I'm almost positive that as long as you don't forget about the calories in your other drinks, you can have them as long as you keep your water as well (since water does other things for you).
