As long as you enjoy it and are having fun! Hey have you tried Zumba? That really burns calories and is lots of fun. Just cardio, no strength training.

... My review of Hoop Dance Workout

Sunday, January 10, 2010

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

... I hope you can see this, but here is the menu or title page outlining the exercises.

I haven't tried them, but I did preview them and I like the format. With each exercise she first does it very slowly so that you can get the movements down, then she gradually speeds up the pace.... She shows you how to hoop in both directions.

In the Dance routines, she actually puts the steps together at a dance pace and goes on to show you how to do combination's using arm movements... She also does a short routine using all the movements she taught...

I love the flow of this workout.. they are not long but right now I don't need a long workout because I don't know how to do all the movements yet... As I get better, I can just combine the routines to make a longer one... Then I will be ready for another workout dvd... But for now, this one is a great start...

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

... I think tomorrow I will try out some of the moves... and let you know how I do... that should be interesting! emoticon

In the meantime, "HAPPY HOOPING"...

Hey, Dee. I love the flow of hooping... that is, when there is a flow! emoticon And then to add steps.... emoticon

Seriously, thanks for the info. I got a gift card for my Birthday, and maybe this would be a good use for me as I begin rebuilding strength in my bum knee!

Breast cancer survivors, compression sleeves & LymphaDIVAs ~

Saturday, January 09, 2010

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

As a breast cancer survivor who has had breast cancer surgery and surgery to remove lymph nodes on the affected side, I know all too well that I am at risk for developing lymphedema, a side effect of breast cancer treatment (...including radiation treatment's) that can cause permanent swelling in the arms. However, there are precautions that can be taken to help prevent lymphedema if you don't already have it, (... as well as for women who have developed lymphedema) and that is to wear a compression sleeve and gauntlet /gloves, while working out or taking a trip on an airplane.

In the past the compression sleeves have always been one color, beige... however, times are changing and there are some cool looking compression sleeves, gauntlets and gloves that can coordinate with our outfits!...

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

LympheDIVAs' was developed by two young breast cancer survivors, Rachel Troxell and Robin Miller who developed lymphedema; together with a fashion designer, they created a more elegant and comfortable compression sleeve.

... one breast cancer on the site commented... "I wear LympheDIVAs' because they are fun! Instead of being approached with sympathy, people approach me with an air of curiosity"...

I hope to start running this spring and maybe visit a gym of two, and I plan to wear mine with pride... emoticon

I prefer to do lymphatic massage if my right arm grows fatigued from activity. I've only flown once in my life so I don't think I'll ever need a sleeve to fly, but I was told that the sleeve would only be necessary for long flights. I try to be mindful about the possibility of developing lymphedema, but I refuse to live in fear of it. Wearing a sleeve when I don't need to would feel like living in fear.

If I ever have the misfortune to develop lymphedema, I will certainly seek for these pretty sleeves!

Mine is purple! No design, just plain purple, and I use it when karate training and flying....fortunately I haven't had any issues, but I wear it to be sure that it stays that way!

Love the ones you posted!!

What a wonderful thing! I wear custom compression sleeves and chose a color to best match my skin tone. That does not stop people from demanding "What did you do?" or "Carpal tunnel?" While I don't mind the inquisitive I do resent the approach sometimes. I didn't "do" anything and please don't assume. I blogged on this early last year just to get it out of my system. If you do develop lymphademia, and I do not wish it on anyone, you may want to also consider a Lymphapress. I bought one a couple of years ago, and while I don't use it as often as I should, it really helps the condition.

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

AM Cardio:

This is one of my favorite Turbo Jam workouts emoticon... but this morning I really didn't feel like excercising, period! When I woke up, although I had 8+ hours of sleep last night, yay me!... mentally, I just wasn't there...
There are a few things I have to do before I exercise and it sometimes annoys me...

#1: since I have no lymph nodes on my right side from the axillary dissection, I have to wear a compression sleeve and gauntlet, this is how they look:

Wearing these will help prevent me from developing lymphedema, where my arm/hand can swell abnormally... so this is something that I have to put on prior to my cardio and strength training exercises... I wish I could just put it on the night before, but the doctor doesn't recommend that I do this... I wear a medic alert bracelet on that arm so it takes a little longer to get the sleeve under the bracelet... taking it off and on is just too much trouble because I can't fasten it by myself.

#2: I wear a heart rate monitor so I have to put that on and apply the gel to the electrodes... not a big deal...

#3: Put on my cross trainers... yeah, I know, but this still takes effort.

#4: Take the dvd out of the case and put it in the dvd player.... yes, this has to be done...

#5: Push play

-:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:- -:¦:-·:*'*:·.·:*'*:·-:¦:-

... I just wanted to point out that mentally, having to prepare to workout is probably one reason why people don't exercise, at least it is for me... I felt fine physically, but my mind was not on the same page. The longer I exercised, the better I felt, don't get me wrong, it was very challenging emoticon but it was fun and I am glad that I did it... emoticon

I wonder why your doctor does not recommend wearing the sleeve all the time. Is is because you have not yet developed it? I have chronic lymphademia and HAVE to wear my sleeves constantly. Actually a specialist recommends night wrapping with low stretch Comprilan bandages for better results after the session with the lymphapress. Unless, of course, I have an active bout of Erysipelas and then I do not as tissue damage could occur. I found some magnetic bracelet clasps that work really well with my alert bracelet. They are really quite powerful.

I have had some really tough strength training sessions with my trainer that left me sore for days. I hope you get to feeling better.

I know some cardio helped loosen up the soreness sometimes. Hopefully you will be feeling better before Sunday.

Take care of you.
