~ ... my Body Rock workout! ~

My workout today was Jari Love's Body Rock ... This dvd also has a cardio dance segment, but I didn't do this one. I had heard that the dance segment wasn't that good and got low reviews, however, it looks like fun to me and I will be adding it to ST segment for more of a calorie burn.

This workout was non-stop. For about 38 minutes, Jari covered every major muscle. Like Cathe, Jari loves low ends and pulse squats emoticon I had to stop a few times, but I got through them. All in all, I love this workout, the music is good and it's not too long... just when I thought "I can't take this any more!" emoticon the exercise was over.

~ My new walking shoes ~

... I have been walking home from work lately and by the time I get home my feet are killing me... they felt like they were on fire!... Today I spent some time looking for comfortable walking shoes. In the past, Easy Spirit had a great walking shoe, but they no longer make this shoe... So I had to do a little research and found a brand, although kinda pricey, had a 5 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon rating for comfort and they will look good with my jeans!... here's what they look like ... hopefully I get them sometime next week. These shoes cost $109.00 with shipping... I sure hope they feel comfortable! emoticon

    you must let us know when you get them...every pair of shoes I get make me blister and they say that is not normal but it doesn't matter if I am sized properly or spend tons of money etc my feet just rebel! I would love to know how these work out, maybe I will look into a pair!

    I love this brand of shoes...if these feel anything like the ones I've had for years, it's like walking on pillows or clouds. And they last forever...remember, you get what you pay for...expensive at first but cheaper in the long run. Happy walking emoticon

~ 21 - Day Primal Blueprint Transformation Challenge... starting 3/5/12 ~

... so Allison aka ALLISON145 and I decided to do a challenge within a challenge so that we can see better results emoticon... This program was created by Mark Sisson and it is all outlined in this book

For those of you who are not familiar with the Primal Blueprint, there are ten major paleolithic principles of The Primal Blueprint

- Eat lots of animals, insects and plants. *sufficient protein, veggies & fruit
- Move around a lot at a slow pace (lots of emoticon) up to 60 mins
- Lift heavy things ( emoticon) 3X's per wk
- Run really fast every once in a while (Tabata's, Sprints) 2X's per month
- Get lotís of sleep emoticon 6 - 8 hours
- Play emoticon emoticon emoticon ... whatever you consider "FUN" emoticon HR within fat burning zone
- Get some sunlight every day emoticon
- Avoid trauma
- Avoid poisonous things
- Use your mind emoticon

Here is a glimpse of some of the foods allowed on this program and what I will be eating:

- Cabbage noodles with sausage (& bacon if you like) and fried apples/raisins

- Jerk chicken / steamed Callaloo / cabbage mixed w/snow peas, carrots, green peppers & gr. onions

- Chicken tikka masala w/riced cauliflower, scented with cumin and lots of veggies, mixed green peppers, onions and mushrooms

- Hot wings with habanero sauce and a big salad of mixed greens, baby spinach and balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing

- Cauliflower pizza(s) w/mozarrella cheese, turkey or Italian sausage and various veggies

- Roasted rosemary chicken, roasted spicy sweet potato salad and broccoli slaw w/bacon

) and large salad with walnuts and no sugar-added cranberries

- Coconut pancakes, center cut bacon and sugar-free syrup

- Also allowed: Fruit, nuts, nut butters (... almond, walnut, etc.), sweet potatoe's, wild/white rice/quinoa (... if needed for carbs) & eggs

My challenge will be forsaking the "air-popped popcorn"... I love this stuff... but hey, it's only for 21 days and then I will add my "free day" back in! emoticon

    Bad news - I was rereading Day 1 this morning to be sure I had everything in place, and realized that we are supposed to start on a MONDAY because of the way he has the workouts structured. Doh! I'm thinking we start with the basic tenets of the program now, and start with the Daily To-Do's on Monday as instructed... Thoughts??

~ ... my workouts for March/2012

I was contemplating getting this program (Les Mills Body Pump) however at almost $200.00, I decided to substitute this workout with the Jari Love Ripped series. Both workouts are based on high reps, i.e., lifting lighter weights for many reps for a more cardio, fat burning effect, all while maintaining/building muscle. These are considered "endurance" workouts.

Jari also uses a barbell in some of her workouts, but the exercises are mostly done with dumbbells. I have 5 of her workouts already and really like them. The cost of her workouts are $14.95 (... much more affordable)!

Pam aka MCMOM11 and I are planning on starting a rotation with Cathe's Mesocycle 1 (Endurance) in April, so for the month of March, I will be rotating with Jari's ST workouts in preparation for this next rotation; Mesocycle 1 is brutal because it is based on endurance, like Jari's but longer, with little to no rest in between sets, so Jari's workouts will help me build stamina. I will alternate my ST days with cardio, using The Firm HIIT workouts, KCM, Cathe, Turbo Fire and others.

~ ... where I am now, an update! ~

Hi guys, did you miss me, just a little?... Well, I missed you all and missed checking in. Yes, life has a way of side-tracking you... a lot of stress going on right now, but I am trying to take deep breaths and accept that "this too shall pass!"...

... so what's going on with me you ask... well, the good news first. As you know I have been hesitant about weighing in and not liking the number that I see on the emoticon but at some point I had to know what that dreaded number was... Well, last Saturday (Feb. 18th) I weighed in at:

161.8

... and this morning I weighed in at:

159.2 emoticon2.6lbs emoticon

I feel great that I am seeing some progress, however I know that I have not exactly been eating right, or rather, eating enough. I will work on improving this next week by increasing my intake of healthy veggies and fruit.

My workouts have been walking home, which average about 1 hour and 26 minutes. But I also want to add back in the ST, "I haven't used my new weight bench yet!!!!" emoticon

My short term weight loss goal is: 154

... I will keep you posted and will post more on what new workout I am considering emoticon... I know you are thinking, "doesn't she already have enough workouts?"... yes, I do, but I love variety and I am a hopeless vidiot... yes LAMOURA I put it out there! emoticon

The other thing that I have been dealing with are severe cramps in my feet, ankles and sometimes my calves and back of my thighs (hamstring area)... They wake me up at night and sometimes when I walk for a long period of time, 1 hour or more, the cramping will start.

I told my doctor about this last week and she ordered a vasular test; I had this test performed yesterday. It was a non-invasive test where my blood pressure and pulse pressure was taken from my left arm and both of my legs. It took about 20 minutes.

The lady who tested me asked me did I have high blood pressure (NO).... diabetes (NO)... circulation problems (not that I know of)... heart problems (NO)... if I exercised (YES, regularly, both cardio and ST, and I don't get cramps while exercising)

She told me that the results should be in by next week. I hope they come back ok; this has been worrying me... But if there is something wrong at least I will find out and the problem can be addressed.

I also had blood work done to test my electrocytes and to see if I have any potassium, magnesium, and any other deficiencies. My doctor advised me to stay hydrated, eat banana's (... just in case of a potassium deficiency); take my multi-vitamin and the Citracal.

That's it for now, with grocery shopping out of the way, today I am relaxing around the house and catching up on shows that I recorded, movies, laundry... the usual weekend chores... Right now I am waiting for my son to bring coffee from Dunkin Donuts...

    Most likely your cramps are due to lack of hydration and electrolyte imbalances. I am working with my BF currently to start walking/jogging and build up his fitness a little.. the night after one of our workouts.. his legs cramped up awful! I made sure the next time we went, he drank plenty of water.. and a little bit of Gatorade G2 for electrolytes. Didn't have the problem after that.

    Glad to hear from you! I was on your side of town last night for my nephew's baby shower off of 55th. I have been in that area long time ago but it looks good. I am so glad to hear that you are making progress. I am praying the test results say nothing is wrong. Maybe a change in diet might be needed.

    Those kinds of cramps are very common for athletes when their potassium levels are low. Do you get enough salt? Without enough sodium you can't shuttle fluid in and out of your cels. Cramps are nasty!!! Have you tried doing some yoga? That can help alleviate some of that pain. You might have Cathe's Yoga Relax or Desi Bartlett's Yoga for beginners (the lunar practice.) I hope you feel better soon.

    Congrats on the weight loss!!! Praying that all is okay and your test results will be positive. Keep your spirits up and do not worry about the unknown, there is enough known to worry about...to paraphrase this scripture...do not worry about tomorrow, today has enough worry of its own. Do what you can, the walking is perfect, just don't overdo that, follow dr.'s orders and continue to drink plenty of water, eat bananas and finally, stretch after you walk. We sometimes forget to stretch after walking because it really doesn't feel like our usual workout. Anywho, have a healthy and happy week!
emoticon ps: I just had another thought, try an epsom salt foot soak after walking. And did you ever get those new shoes?

I am so proud of you; and I get why you have so many exercise, baubles (sp), you gotta mix it up! I like the scale number as well.

Here is to all the test coming back positive. Perhaps as you increase your calories and add the right mix of naturally occuring vitamins, minerals (same mix just more perhaps???) Those cramps will just go away.
