4 week Spring into Fitness Challenge completed!

Today after I did my SP video with Nicole and cycled 30 minutes, I officially completed my Spring into Fitness Challenge which lasted a month. I highly recommend joining challenges; they keep you on track for your goals as support for the meals & fitness trackers in SP.

Since joining SP 41/2 weeks ago, I've lost 4 lbs + 4 inches, and gained hundreds of friends.

Now I'm gearing up for the 2011 Fall 5% challenge. I'm a slow loser so I'm counting on this challenge to keep me working hard and looking forward!

I'm working on the SparkPeople 8-week Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge, I don't have diabetes but the challenge is a great one for me. It's easy to follow.

    You're Awesome I am soooo impressed. I am loosing quickly but I have over 100lbs to loose and never exercised or ate healthy in YEARS. Any improvement on Fast food is great!! The last 10 are the holy grail. Uplifting but hard as he!!

We had the "Welcome back, Students" fair going on at my school all day, where we're manning tables showing them where their classes are located and various businesses and restaurants are there giving us all free food. I'm as bad as the students; I can't pass up free pizza and buffalo wings and ice cream. And I didn't pass it up, BUT I limited myself to one slice of pizza and 3 wings, and .10 cup of ice cream (wasn't my idea, that was how little the cups were). The pizza cost me almost 500 calories--can't say it was worth it, but the wings, YUM!

When my shift was over, I headed for the gym--did 35 minutes on the elliptical and 30 min. lifting weights. Surely I worked off some of the calories--a 1/2 victory.

    Awesome! There you go. Eating healthy isn't about not eating. It is moderation!! When I eat pizza I order with no cheese(can't stand the oil puddle in the middle!!) If you order chicken and veggie pizza with no cheese it is 150 calories!! Google Domino's calorie tracker and find your own healthy creation.
Buffalo wings at a pizza place is baked not fried and so is healthier!!!
Please DO NOT ask me how I know this!!!:) Hint MMMMMMM!!!
Pizza huts wing day Wednesdays can be a healthy part of your salad!!!

It's the last fun "eating" holiday of the summer, so most of us will celebrate with some fun eating. The Bridal shower I attended yesterday taught me that for sure without some fore thought, we are more likely to fall into some really bad old habits for the weekend. So I'm making this commitment:

One helping, no matter how good it is
No processed foods
60 minutes of exercise each day (some of it a fun activity)

    Good luck with your goals!
My goals are less ambitious, but work for me
- no soda, no drinking calories outside of meal times, and drink lots of water (8cups)
-at least once a week do something fun and active with the family- beach, pool, walking in town
-train for my first 5K ever... I'm walking it. It's a step in the right direction.
-track everything

Actually I slow-jogged 25 minutes, but to go from just walking to jogging that long in only 4 weeks is pretty good! There is an SP article featured today about the value of playing music when we're exercising. I know it made a big difference for me to listen to upbeat music as I ran.

I was playing a podcast that also gives me my time as I run, so I don't have to worry about anything except putting one foot in front of the other and breathing. It was made by a young lady who started running to lose weight. It's free, and I think it's good.     I can't run without my music. I actually loaded an app on my phone awhile back called couch to 5k I absolutely love it. I haven't been using it lately because of my surgery but it def makes me want to check out these ones!

I knew I had to take a friend from out of town to dinner tonight--no time to cook, school meetings all day. Besides I had a plan even though his favorite food is italian, I was going to order something I liked but bring 1/2 home. Well, I boxed up a little less than 1/2, but half way through the meal the waitress brought fresh garlic bread topped with parmesan cheese to the table. All bets were off. I kept dipping into the bread basket. My mind couldn't make my hand stop dipping, and my mouth stop accepting it. Well, it was good. So much for this week's weigh-in. There's always next week, as my southern grandmother used to say, "If I live and nothing happens...."

    Don't beat yourself up...one day won't kill a healthy lifestyle, just get back on the bandwagon...Instead of looking at one day as a make or break deal, eat the best you can for the remainder of the week and see if it balances out with the calories, etc. Stick to your workout schedule, and hopefully the end result will show no harm done at all! Good luck reaching your goals!

    I behave the same way you just described. We just can't beat ourselves up when it happens. You did it and just move on. The guilt trip is what starts a big binge with me.

Probably the best thing to do in future is to ask that the bread not be brought.
