No more plateau

Monday, June 17, 2013

Happy to say that I am 1 week into eating a plant-based diet, and am losing weight effortlessly. Heart disease runs in my family, so I initially became interested in this eating plan when I saw Dr. Fuhrman on The Dr. Oz Show showing the gigantic benefits to our health that eating a diet of vegetable and fruits offers. He did not lie. His plan is called Eat to Live. You should check it out. I joined a Face Book group that is extremely supportive with offering adaptions of recipes etc., but 2 HUGE salads a day plus a cup of beans is something any of us can do. :)

My depressing plateau

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

My way is to DO something. So after my moment of " What's wrong, Why me? Why isn't this working anymore?" (suspecting it's my body just getting old and slowing down), I do my research to form my "Never-say-die" plan. I did it before -- OK so now it's harder, but I'll do it again, AND boy will I ever remember how hard it was to get if off, so I'll stick to the life-plan this time!

So I'll share my notes with you. These are all actions that will rev up your metabolism. Do as many as you can:

Begin the day with yoga. A couple of complete sun salutations will do, or for a bit more, do Dr. Oz's morning routine. www.oprah.com/health/Dr-Ozs-7-Minute

Drink some cold water with lemon (some suggest adding fiber to the water).

Eat 4 times a day.

Cut sugar.

Lower carbs (all carbs) and fat.

Take 500 mg. of white bean extract 1/2 hour before breakfast.

Eat a high protein breakfast (eggs or protein powder smoothies are great).

Take 50 mg. of forskolin.

Snack on tahini dip.

Go for a brisk half-hour walk.

Eat peppers with your high protein & veggie lunch.

Use olive oil.

Drink green tea (or even better, take green tea capsules containing 70% EGCG)

Eat peppers with lunch, as well as dill weed and chives.

Chew sugarless gum.

Do strength training.

Drink LOTS of water.

Cook dinner with coconut oil.

Have 1 glass red wine or coffee, tea or dairy with dinner.

On a normal day, don't cut your calories below 1,000.

Once or twice a week detox: Eat organic, drink lots of water and tea, eat lots of veggies, exercise mildly.

OK, now I'm ready to rock and roll these last stubborn 9 pounds off. If you have a trick to rev the metabolism, I'm open. Please share.

My best advise is to have one liquid meal in place of a solid meal. I LOVE my green smoothies! Just be sure to add a good sized scoop of hemp protein. I also like a smallish handful of almonds or walnuts when hunger is knocking on my door! Also a great Dr. Oz trick...PGX which is a highly purified fiber. It stabilizes blood sugars and lowers appetite You can get it in single packets and I sometimes add it to my water or stir it into some soup or greek yogurt as a snack. If you take it before meals it will greatly tamp down your portions. It has negative carbs as the fiber cancels the 2.5 grams out.

Try it...it's pretty awesome! Helped me lose a pound this week! emoticon emoticon

Dr Oz is one of my favorite role models for healthy living. He's open and receptive to hearing a variety of voices and gives his audience the information they need to make the right choice. I've begun to implement a lot of his advice. You offer a lot of great suggestions here. Have a great week! Hug, hug -- Evelyn

berries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries because they have the most phytonutrients... also pommegranite has ECGC which kills cancer... Oranges and grapefruits (if you are not on pharmaceuticals with the gf) The grape skins have resveratrol but you would have to eat lots... Papaya has lots of beta carotene and alpha carotente and phytonutrients they haven't even named... and canteloupe too. Watermelon and tomatoes have lypocene which kills cancer... if you are a guy that would be the number one bet for prostate cancer for women it is good too..avocodos have lots of everything and even fiber kills cancer by getting rid of excess estrogen in the body.... Most or 80% of breast cancer is estrogen related..mine is 99% and I am healing myself with food. emoticon
