Blessed am I...

Monday, August 20, 2012

I love to watch Oprah's Super Soul Sunday on OWN on Sundays. Yesterday one of her guests was Sarah Ban Braenach who wrote Simple Abundance and Something More. She was saying joy is our birthright, and that we should stop wounding ourselves.

Women especially, are super critical of themselves. We betray ourselves with self-loathing. She told one lady in the audience to stand naked in front of a mirror and repeat for 35 days, "Blessed am I to live in such a beautiful temple."

The lady asked, "Do I have to do it NAKED?" Ban Braenach said that she could just start from the neck up and work her way down.

I tried it today. I tried not to criticize the body parts that still need so much work. I tried to send love to that image in the mirror, and gratitude for all the activities my body allows me to do.

After saying it about 3 times, it wasn't so bad.

I've looked at the pictures you posted. It shouldn't be too hard for you to do. ;-)

However, I'll tell you that one of my inspirations to lose weight was that I didn't recognize the guy I was seeing in the mirror. We have to be realistically critical. If I'd loved myself too much when I was 50 pounds overweight, I'd still be 50 pounds overweight, and my health and energy has improved tremendously since just a few pounds into losing that weight.

That is a great idea. I am truly blessed as well. My hubbie of 39 years watches me get dressed every morning and tells me how great I look. It is such an upper it lasts all day.

Thanks so much for sharing this with me. I am hyper-super critical of myself. Today I wrote in my journal all the things that made me unhappy and then what I could do to make myself happy. What I realized is that I was doing what I could to change the things I did not like, except my perception was warped! Not giving credit oneself is the same thing as not honoring your body. I am going to try this. Bit by bit - first with a towel, I think.

WooHoo for the Summer 5% Challenge!

Saturday, August 18, 2012

My last weigh-in today shows me holding at my original goal weight--which I keep bouncing up from. Without the challenges I could never bounce down; I just know it would be a spiral up. The elusive "2-pound cushion" I was going for was not attained. My body just doesn't want it, and will not do it. So, all right then. I'll listen.

Summer is a hard time to hold yourself accountable to good, healthful habits. The Challenge was my anchor that kept pulling me back after each barbecue party or weekend binge.

Thanks to all who helped me through it. See you for the Fall 5% Challenge, when I'll no doubt be working on losing the same 5 lbs.

I've read so many times that maintaining is much harder than losing. And you're doing it....even with summer swarming around you! Excellent success. You are amazin'!

I haven't done one of these challenges - it sounds interesting - do you know when the Fall 5% challenge will begin? I'd like to join
Thx, Dolly 8-)

Thank you for a wonderful first year!

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Thank you Sparkpeople and all my SparkFriends for making my first year with you such a gratifying one. Not only did I attain my goal weight...a couple of times -- let's face it, maintenance is a witch--but I received such unbridled love and support, you made me feel like a winner. And so I was.

The SP community is now my extended family -- I see no reason to ever leave you. emoticon

I think I'll celebrate my Sparkversary all week--no, not with ice cream and cake--I think I'll do double exercise this week to try to insure I'll make my Summer Challenge goal. Oh wait! If I do that, then I can have some ice cream and cake!!!

Love you all...sincerely.

Inspiring Olympians

Saturday, August 04, 2012

It's 4:37 a.m. and I'm still up watching the Olympics. I am just in awe at the heart these 15 & 16 year-olds, as well as the older more experienced veterans are showing. They are just setting world records all over the place--just going all out and giving it all they've got.

How dare I become disheartened at my little weight plateau! How about putting forth a little more effort! I will not be denied! My goal is in sight, and I will be a Gold Medal winner, not a quitter! I'll sprint to the end! I can breathe later.

Come join me on Team USA. Yea for us!!!!

The 10K today was ultra cool, with the British national who trains in Oregon winning, with his US training partner finishing second, both with great kicks in the final 100 meters of the race.

To even quaify is outstanding. Hard work and dedication: not everyone is willing to do it consistently. But these athletes stayed the course and are making it happen. Truly commendable!

I have been watching the Olympics as much as I can.. I love Miss Gabby, & her beautiful smile .I had tears of joy when she won. Her story about begging to come home to her Mama, was touching because her Mom missed her also but knew she had to stay put.Even all those from the states & other countries that did not medal to me they still won because they made it that far to be in the Olympics, so they are all champions!!!

Home Sweet Home

Saturday, July 21, 2012

I know I said I'd be back home on Thursday. That was the plan, but United Airlines decided otherwise. I'm counting my blessings that I happened to be still awake at 1:00 a.m. when they emailed me that my flight from D.C. to Cleveland (Cleveland!!!) would be delayed 2 hours (thereby causing me to miss my connecting flight to Michigan). So I managed to get rescheduled to a Friday departure....but so did everyone else, and the airport was a mass of long lines.

But I'm home. Sigh..... And I still love traveling...usually.....

Now let's kick some serious booty with our exercise!
