Running with Prince

Saturday, February 04, 2012

I just returned from a 3-mile run with my man, Prince. I just like that beat he hammers out every single time; I never have to fool with my ipod. "Let's Go Crazy," "1999," "You've Got the Look," "Raspberry Beret," "Work It." Remember those? It goes on for at least 2 hours.

If you're too young to be familiar with Prince, and want some good exercise music, he's your man.

Running, walking or in the gym, his music keeps my energy up. He's got a beat I can MOVE to!

I haven't really exercised to music in quite some time. I may have to try it out again. :-)

A quick little valuable lesson

Sunday, January 22, 2012

An SP friend had an encouragement to watch this in her Status area. It is such a valuable little piece, I'm passing it on to all of you as well as to my non SP friends. (I know they get sick of me passing them emails regarding health issues.) But you're here on SP, so you'll appreciate it and maybe pass it on to your friends. Watch to the end.

This is brilliant, the best way to take awareness of how important is to practice some kind of exercise.
Thanks

Just finished my 60 minutes on the treadmill (walking!); now off to strength-train at the gym!

A visit to the dentist

Friday, January 20, 2012

At my last 6-month dental checkup, I learned about one more thing on that seemingly-endless list of things that "go bad" as you age--your fillings. Apparently after doing their job for many, many years, they can actually cause tiny cracks in your teeth that REALLY ruin your teeth. That has happened to one of mine, so today I go in for a crown. That's what it's called, but I just call it my first false tooth. They remove most of the tooth (yeah, cringe with me at the thought of all that drilling) and mold-in a man-made one, so....

Fortunately, it's a molar, and if I had just given you some more famous quotes, instead of trying to think a new daily blog topic to fulfill my challenge requirement, you'd never have even known about it.

I'm noticing something about blogging--if I've already listed my goals, unless I'm doing a regular progress resport, I tend to fall into either patting myself on the back or voicing a complaint. I think it's because of the desire to say something interesting....

I have 2 crowns...and I do not like them! Sorry to hear that you had to spend your day this way - I went in for an hour-long facial today, to end my week. Hope your weekend is fabulous; stay warm! emoticon

I hate to tell you how many crowns, root canals, fillings....YIKES! I am a dentist's dream!! And you SHOULD pat yourself on the back because you're awesome! And we will also allow you to vent, LOL!

I have a crown. I know the feeling. My old dentist kept warning me that the fillings don't last for forever. He replaced 3 of them with new ones.

I have an awful relationship with dentistry. I love my dentist AND my periodontist (to give you an idea) both, they are wonderful. It's just the having to pay someone to inflict such pain and humiliation just seems so wrong....

I hear ya about blogging daily, it's kind of hard to come up with relevant, interesting stuff.

The Beautyshop

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Today I'm going to the beautyshop. I'm looking forward to it already. It's a pampering thing I do at least once a month. I used to go more often, but now I exercise so much it's just not worth it. Today I'll at least do my run before my appointment. But I can't just write off getting my hair done entirely. For one thing, I just don't want to go back to my younger years when I always did my hair myself--even perms and color. I just don't want to go to all that trouble, even though it's cheaper. My beautician does it better, and my hair is healthier. Besides, I need my gray roots retouched--that vanity thing--and I need the "me" time. I don't smoke, don't eat fast food, eat less of everything than before, don't go to bars -- but I do go to the beautyshop.

I love the beautyshop. My beautician is friendly and chatty. Her clientele is friendly and chatty. We have a wonderful, chatty, laughing, fun time during the 2-3 hours I'm there.

emoticon I'm going to the beautyshop today! emoticon

On the merits of exercise

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

A strong body makes the mind strong.
Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very fast.

Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary because health is worth more than learning.
Thomas Jefferson

Exercise is bunk. If you are healthy, you don't need it: if you are sick you should not take it.
Henry Ford

Being entirely honest with oneself is a good exercise.
Sigmund Freud

Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.
John Adams
