August Goals!

Well, my re-first month on Spark People is officially over, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the results, and myself.
I wasn't very consistent with my eating efforts or my exercise efforts, though I have done over 90 minutes for 4 weeks in a row now.

Beginning of July

Weight-178lbs (-2)

So aside from the arms, which I'm assuming is just muscle starting to grow (hopefully), I've lost a total of 3" and 2lbs. This disappointing result is definitely motivating me to kick arse this month, and I've set some goals for myself.

1) Lose 4lbs
Steps to Achieve: Go out for a walk/run 3x per week. Do strength training 3x per week.

2) Finish 100 Push-Ups Challenge
Steps to Achieve: Do the push-up program after my walks.

3) Start Buying My Own Groceries
Steps to Achieve: Visit farmer's markets, browse through sale flyers. Set aside money in my budget (see goal #5)

4) Reach 1000 Fitness Minutes
Steps to Achieve: Get extra exercise in, in any way shape or form!

5) Create and stick to a budget
Steps to Achieve: Use SparkSavings, log spending on the spending tracking sheet and keep receipts and bank statements.

Hopefully I'll be more successful this month than last month, and hopefully the dismal results of July push me to be successful this month.

  You are doing a great job in writing your goals down and tracking them. Don;t beat yourself up too bad as you are definitely on track in losing so your program is working. You're doing a total makeover in your August goals and that's improvement within itself. It's still early and I know, you can do it! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Overall, your measurement results are great, you lose almost everything except arms but that might mean you get more bulging muscle :D I like your August measurement goals, they look achiveable!

Some tips - do short exercises that you can do anywhere, anytime on your busiest days, try to squeeze in workouts in mornings and make your workout plan adaptable, something that you can change on last minute or when there's unseen circumstance :D

Pushing

I missed my morning walk/work out yesterday morning due to a total inability to sleep Sunday night. All day I debated going for a walk and doing my workout, but then I blinked and it was 5pm and time to go to work.
I only worked until 930 fortunately, and by the time I got home I had resolved to go for my walk and get my workout in. So, I invited my bf along with me and I found that I was pushing myself harder. I wanted to show him up, be more in shape than him.
Once we got back from the walk, I asked if he wanted to do the strength training with me too. I'm currently doing the 100 push-ups, squats, and sit-ups challenges and I do some other exercises as well (reverse crunches, back extension).
I found that I was really pushing myself then too. I wanted to beat him, just because he always says "Oh well I'm stronger than you blah blah blah". Sure, you may be stronger than me, but I just did 5 more push-ups than you did. I did 12 more reverse crunches, and 5 more squats.
It's so terrible haha, but it made me really push myself. I did 3 sets of reverse crunches (instead of my regular two), I did 30 extra squats...crazy!

Sure hun, you may be "stronger than me" in the sense that you can lift bricks and I can't. But I'm definitely more in shape than you! :)

I challenged him to do it again with me Wednesday night. Hahaha.

Ready for More!

Soooo I've been on Spark consistently (minus two or three days) for about a month now and I've been doing only cardio (running, walking) with a little bit of yoga built in. I wanted to start out slowly and work myself up to doing more.

I think I have decided that now is the time for more. I think I'm ready for more.

So I decided that I wanted to try the 100 Push-Ups Challenge. If you don't know what that is, take a look at this site http://hundredpushups.com/test.html.

I've always wanted to be able to do push-ups...the last time I checked, I could do 25 modified push-ups. I'm sure it's gone down since then. So, I think I am going to start this off doing modified push-ups and when I complete that I am going to try it doing the unmodified push ups, that way I don't push myself too hard and give up.

I'm going to start it today after I go for my walk/run. Wish me luck! :)

    Good luck with that! I had a go at doing some press ups the other day, my arms are still aching. I am so weak in my arms it is unbelievable. Well done on being consistent too. x

also try the 200 squats if you have the time/inclination. they work pretty well together

What a weekend

So my boyfriend had his little boy this weekend, which means a weekend spent at my boyfriend's parents' house. They do not live the healthiest lifestyle and although I tried to choose healthier choices (only having one slice of pizza, etc) the choices were still not healthy.
Luckily I had to chase my boyfriend's 3 year old son around all weekend so that should hopefully help burn off some calories. I have a feeling my weight is going to be up this week but that's ok cause I got back on track today and started making the right decisions (because I know I can here).
I don't know what to do when I'm there, I love spending time with them but I want to eat better and they don't seem very supportive of that.
Oh well. It's all about practice, not perfection.
