I feel like I have my life back.

Thursday, July 22, 2010

I have been so busy since moving to TX and getting the pups. We have remodeled and adjusted to the climate change. I'm feeling so much better from the Lyme. I've been on a natural Lyme program and my pups have also played a big part in it. They are so cool, the joy in my life

I really need to be more physical.

Monday, April 13, 2009

My diet is working slowly. I'm so anxious for it to warm up outside so I can get to work. I really need to be more physical.
I'm knitting a Tantric Puzzle Top with Plum Perfection Swazzle yarn.
It's a 100% superfine alpaca (from Peru) yarn. I love it.
I've also started a toe-up sock with prime alpaca fiber from columbia river gorge.
I think of socks as fun and practical.

Not getting enough sleep causes your body to store fat, slows your metabolism, and makes you eat mor

Thursday, March 19, 2009

The MUFAs diet is working good for me (lost another lb). I'm loving this dark chocolate. And olives - Oh yummy! This week I worked on Strategy #1 of the '7 Stress-Busting Strategies' - GET MORE SLEEP. Not getting enough sleep causes your body to store fat, slows your metabolism, and makes you eat more. Your body must have enough downtime to revitalize and replenish. The author urges: if you do nothing else on this list, put sleep at the top of the "Flat Belly Diet" to-do list.
We had some excitement on the freeway Saturday. On the way to a retirement seminar, someone intentionally tried to run us off the road. It was so scary I cried. Since having shingles the stress makes me hurt so much, so Sunday I was down too. At the seminar they talked about life, and death, and planning, and wills, and being prepared. Really makes you think.
This week I worked on organization and inventory of my yarn stash. I found an old challenging pattern I want to try again. It's a cool cable seed stitch top.

Good to hear you lost another pound. I like dark chocolate too. I heard that not getting enough sleep can cause you to store belly fat along with stress. I've been working hard to try and get sleep. In fact I always try to make sure I sleep enough hours. But the past week or so I haven't been sleeping too well. So last night I was determined I was going to sleep and I was in a real deep sleep and somebody outside startled me cause I heard a strange voice. Here it was my neighbor and he was out in the middle of the yard at 1:40am singing in his boxers. I don't know if he was drunk or sleepwalking or what. So needless to say it interrupted my sleep. Better luck for me tonight. Sorry you got run off the road, that is terrible. Try and have a nice weekend!

I agree with what you wrote about the importance of sleep. I have trouble sleeping due to stress, etc. For some reason, I've had trouble sleeping for many years... I have used Nyquil and many other cough/allergy products to help me sleep. Being this is unhealthy, I started searching for more natural sleep remedies and now use Melatonin (from GNC) on most nights to ensure that I'll get a good amount of sleep. I use the Melatonin 3, which is time released to help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep. Now I only wake up when I desperately need a pee, which is at most once per night. I used to wake up several times per night. The other natural remedy I've heard about for helping with sleep is Valerian Root. I have not tried it.

So true about not getting enough sleep. I'm a night owl, was up late finishing up a book, and knew I could sleep in this morning. But - my dr called me 3 different times before 8 a.m., so finally I gave up and got up. Will be in bed earlier this evening!

Hope you got the license plate of the idiot that tried to run you off the road. I've read that we can expect more of this kind of thing as people are becoming more frustrated with their lives these days. Too bad they don't have healthy outlets for their frustrations.

Have fun with your knitting; I like to crochet myself, and have been making child-size afghans all winter with (mostly) scrap yarns I've bought at yard sales. Will donate them all somewhere next fall. It's a relaxing thing to do, and someone will benefit in the end!

sleep has really been an issue for me with this time change!! It's playing havoc with my appetite and totally stalled (reversed?) my weight loss. Glad to hear you are having luck with the FBD. I am afraid it doesn't work well for me. I think that is probably more a portioning issue than anything else. Good healthy fats though. Your freeway experience sounds really scary, i would have cried too!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

I did GOOD on my nutrition & being physical but not logging it. Hubby and I are both doing a "healthy heart diet". He has a tired heart and I have the lyme in my heart, which is painful sometimes. I lost 5 lbs already without really trying. I just got the book, it explains how "A flat belly is about food & attitude. Period". you eat MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids, like oils, chocolate, avocados, olives or nuts at every meal). I'm anxious to read about the attitude part.
It was a good week. I mostly worked on my fiber arts. I went to an organic yarn shop uptown village and could not resist this beautiful wisteria purple silk wool. I'm going to try the "two-at-a-time" sock pattern. I finished a suede fringe shawl last night. It turned out real nice.

    Attitude
key - your state of mind plays a role in how & when & why we eat
and even how & where we put on weight.
emotions- recognize difference in emotional & true hunger
stress - increases cortisol, appetite, depression, decreases immunity & brain function
body image - core confidence
There are 7 stress busting strategies.
There is a yummy sounding recipe for Greek Lemon Chicken I'm making tomorrow..
This is what I'm getting from the book so far.

Is it just black olives or are the green olives a MUFA too? Can't wait to hear about the attitude part.

baby asprin & get medical attention ASAP you can avoid damage to the heart.

Sunday, March 01, 2009

This week was good in it's own way. I was still too bummed with my remodel job to get back at it, SO I did get to some spring cleaning and paperwork.

Saturday we went to a safety seminar at hubby's union, getting some medical tests done (periphial artery disease, sugar, cholesterol, heart, etc). There were 2 lectures, on diabetes and heart attacks, It was very interesting, especially the info on the heart and heart attacks. The typical heart attack lasting 5 days and how if you take 4-6 baby aspirin & and get medical attention ASAP you can avoid damage to the heart.

Sunday I was honored to meet one of my daughters friends.
