STICK TO YOUR PRINCIPLES

Sunday, January 31, 2010

I was writing a blog last night when my computer locked up. The following is a shortened version of my weekend.

Sat. morning.

I started to turn the wrong way down a one-way street and almost caused an accident.

Had words with my husband about his GPS after he made an "insulting" comment about me being inferior to his "guide in the box."

Managed to get in 7000+ steps on my pedometer by walking around Wal-Mart.

I spent all morning doing computer maintenance so I could get back on Spark.

A much-needed nap just hit the spot. Then I made a sandwich and cut up veggies for supper. I am very grateful to have made it through these unusual days with my streak still going. Day #103 of tracking every bite and Day #6 of pre-planning my food consumption. It can be done. The next challenge will be traveling with a friend to Ohio to attend a funeral. I think I can get through it.

What's more I think you can get through whatever is coming your way. Stick to your principles and do what needs to be done. Then share your success with us. I love hearing about others facing the challenges and coming out better for it.

Thank you for stopping by. Hugs from Janet in sunny but cold Illinois.

    Janet:

Your blog made me laugh!

I could make many comments about our GPS ... most of them not very complimentary. I think they get a bit confused if they're outside a city (the first time my BIL used his on the way to our house, it tried to route him into a lake!). They are excellent for city driving though, especially if you don't know the area; they don't understand the concept of "short-cuts" but they will get you where you want to go ... eventually.

You'll make it through the funeral just fine, I'm sure.

Yes, this is what happened to me too.
I downloaded about 10 pictures and just when I thought I was ready to send the blog, it went blank. So I tried it again today.

MILEAGE PER CHILI CARB?

Friday, January 29, 2010

I realized I was making errors entering my fitness goals. I only track steps, but my pedometer has mileage too. When I put that in, I got credit for all kinds of fitness minutes that were not specific fitness times. I went back and deleted the false readings. From now on I will track the mileage as a note on my steps tracker. I am sorry for the confusion.

I continue to plan my meals before eating them and keeping the carbs to 50 at each feeding. I was hungry this evening while I was making the chili. I really wanted more chili than I planned for; but I stuck to my plan. It took some extra commitment, but the urge was not overwhelming.

After three days of limiting my carbs, this morning my blood sugar was down 22 points. I was shocked that this works so well. I am pre-diabetic so I think I can control this if I am persistent with my new habits. I plan to be.

It has been a long day and I am running out of steam. When I ended up with a title about getting mileage out of chili carbs, I knew it was time to go to bed. Pleasant dreams to all and thank you for stopping by. Hugs from J

SHINING AND DINING

Thursday, January 28, 2010

As big an accomplishment as 100 days of consistent tracking is, I am more satisfied with making it 3 days of planning my food before eating it. Yeah! I had my first challenge today with lunch out with family at a new restaurant. Before I left, I added lots of choices to my lunch tracker just to see how the nutrition would pan out if I had beef, chicken or a chef salad. When we got to the restaurant, I considered 5 or 6 different entrees. The beef and noodles special looked so good, but my husband and I both decided it had too many carbs. I was wanting to keep my meal to 50 carbs. We all ended up ordering a beef brisket sandwich, which had plenty of meat on it. And I ordered a serving of coleslaw. When I entered it into my tracker, it was 44 carbs. I was very pleased with my efforts. I can say that limiting carbs to about the same number every time I eat, I don't get cravings like I have been. I am still just focusing on one day at a time and one meal at a time. The sun was out shiny and bright today, which was a wonderful change of pace. I hope the sun was shining on you today. Blessings and hugs from J.

SLOW TO BELIEVE I AM WORTH IT.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Have you noticed a change in your Spark nutrition goals? My daily calorie range dropped significantly yesterday, as did all the other elements that are being tracked. I don't think I did anything to cause that to happen. I was just wondering if it happened to anyone else.

This was Day #2 of tracking my meals before eating them. It went very well. I am a little worried about tomorrow because we are meeting my husband's brother and his wife for lunch. I have never been to this restaurant; it is fairly new. I checked their website for a menu, but it was just a general description of their sandwiches, etc. My plan is to focus on lean protein and as many vegetables as I can get. I remind myself it is only one meal and stick to my commitment to pre-tracking the meals I do have more control over. I eat at home a lot more than I eat out. I am trying to keep it in perspective.

It has been a good day with lots of phone calls from friends and work done around home eliminating some of my "paperwork jungle." I cooked a wonderful stir-fry of healthy fresh vegetables and lean deer meat. It was very tasty. I took care of myself today and I am very grateful for the willingness to do that. I am slowly beginning to believe that I am worth it.

Thank you for stopping by and hugs from Janet in central Illinois.

The lunch will go just fine....I know it will...your so focused on what is going on in your life at this time that it will all fall into place and seeing where it isn't an everyday thing that you have to deal with. Watching what you do at homes can be a part of your life in the real world...you just need to FOCUS. Enjoy!

Janet - Spark changes your calorie ranges if you adjusted the amount of exercise/calorie burn you plan for in a given week, or if you adjusted your goal weight/date. Just wanted to share that little tip with you - it's happened to me before!

You are worth it. I don't pretrack my meals but it sounds like a good idea. I know food tracking however you do it is one of the reasons SP works so well. It has certainly changed me and my thinking. emoticon

You have a great plan for lunch ~ enjoy it! Get some ice water with lemon or some hot tea to "fill you up" while you wait for your lunch.... enjoy~ you deserve to relax and know that you can make this work for you!

I'm glad you're using the nutritional tracking tool. I just love it! It helps me to see what I need and keeps me honest..lol. I cooked a stir fry tonite too..except with chicken and cabbage, spinach, onions, broccoli, carrots and pea pods...ohhh it was sooo good. Yours sounds good, too. In a couple of weeks you won't believe how good it feels to be doing something nice for yourself.

Have fun sparkin' and keep up the good work! emoticon

DAY #1 TRACK BEFORE CONSUMING

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Today I took OLDMOM3's advice and planned my meals before eating them today. It was wonderful. I wanted to keep my carbs at 60 per eating session, which I did. By figuring it all out ahead of time, I was able to eat what I wanted and just tweaked the quantity to make the carbs add up to 60, I was impressed with how well it worked. Try it sometime. I made it through Day #1 . Hugs from Janet in Illinois and thank you for stopping by.

Well done, Janet - esp.since you are tracking carbs as well as calories
Might well do that too - rather than log after I've eaten as I tend to be too low on protein

"food" for thought
