A Spark Wedding

Thursday, November 03, 2011

Once in a great while a fairy tale comes true! Yes, I met my Kansan husband through Spark People.

We met each other by an accident of fate through a mutual Spark Friend (you know who you are). The tie brought us together was that Greg is an outdoorsman and I am a nature lover. We began corresponding through email and long phone conversations which eventually led to my Kansas man flying to Ohio to meet. Love and a marriage proposal followed.

A couple of months later, I packed my car and took McGee to Kansas to live. On August 29, 2011, we were married in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

There were many who said I was crazy and a handful who said to follow my heart. My heart was right.........I am the happiest woman in the world! We live each day enjoying the simple things that life has to offer. I have learned that there are never any guarantees in life and I don't want to be a spectator in life. Call it what you like...........Greg and I were meant to be!

Just a short, fun blog....

I had to buy a new vacuum cleaner today. I got it home, opened the box and took out the contents to put together. The box fell on the floor while I was screwing the handle on.

This kept Elton entertained for quite some time. McGee kept looking in to see what Elton found so interesting. Since there wasn't any food in the box, McGee wasn't impressed. Elton, on the other hand, had a playland!

CAT THERAPY

Friday, January 07, 2011

I have tried to find justification and relevance for writing this blog to our general health and weight loss issues. So, I went online to make sure that I could justify sharing my story: "Research has shown health benefits of laughter ranging from strengthening the immune system to REDUCE FOOD CRAVINGS. . . . . ., among other things."

With this in mind, I thought it would be fun to share a couple of stories about my new cat, Elton. I have never owned a cat before, always dogs. My father was not a cat lover and neither was my husband. Now that I am on my own, I decided to get a cat. I wasn’t quite up to speed on the day to day life and antics of a cat, but I have been finding out there are many. Some I find endearing, others, not so much!

The other evening, while I was stretched out on the couch watching a bit of TV, I heard what sounded like the raging hooves of a stampede coming my way. It was Elton! He streaked before my eyes, leaped on the table in the corner, put on his brakes, skidded across it and smashed his head into the wall and fell off. I laughed so hard that I almost peed myself…..and mind you, I was all alone!

The next evening I was filling the dishwasher, turning my back now and again to gather dishes. Evidently I missed the part when Elton decided to explore the dishwasher more closely and I shut the dishwasher door. As I was wiping off the counters I heard a muffled meow. I looked around and listened again. It was coming from the dishwasher! I opened the door and out marched Elton. It was a good thing that I wasn’t planning on running the dishwasher AND that I stayed in the kitchen long enough to hear his plea! I laughed all the way to the telephone to share a laugh with my daughter.

So the real reason behind this story is to share my ignorance regarding cat behavior and how I am learning that Elton is bound to make me laugh on a regular basis. This is a good thing for me! I could use some more laughter in my life, but then who couldn’t?!

This is a staged picture of what happens at my house when loading the dishwasher.

I am a cat lover so appreciate this story. Was Elton able to move with you when you married or does he have a new home now? Most cats don't like to travel. My cat does not like the car drive 15 minutes to the vet and lets me know it LOUD and clear.

Cats are hilarious, if you just take the time to learn their personalities! One of my cats likes to "fetch" slippers -- every morning he brings them out to the living room, and at night he takes them back to the bedroom. He's done this for years! Pets are such a joy emoticon

I love pets, we no longer have a cat, but we enjoy our neighbor's cats who come and sit in front of our picture windows in the living room, driving our two little dogs crazy! The cats stretched, looked over their shoulder to see if our dogs are watching and that yes, the front door is closed and then they continue to tease the heck out of our dogs. LOL Love it, it is so funny! Now, while we are going through this healthy struggle with my husband our two dogs are providing us with such comfort and they do give us their share of laughter, love. comfort and joy!

Cats can be so funny, and so different from dogs. I'm glad you have a character to enjoy. I had a cat years ago that enjoyed riding on the hood of our car when we backed out of the driveway. Then he would hop off, and let us go on our merry way. I think about my "Bud" everyday!

My cat (who is over 10 yrs old now), STILL flips around and chases her tail & her shadow, and she loves wrapping paper & bows, and well, YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE YOUR KITTY so much! I am so happy that you have a new friend in Him! Awesome. PS, my hubby doesn't love cats either, but she came w/ the package (marriage) 10 yrs ago. lol.

My first pet was a brain damaged (we think) cat named Katie. It was so funny when she would do uncoordinated things like you described, because she would look all embarrassed and defensive afterward, as if to say, "What? You must have imagined that. It certainly wasn't me. I don't know what you are talking about." Just a warning: Cats are very quiet and sneaky and love "hiding places". My friend lost a cat in a situation similar to the dishwasher. I won't share the details, but check your cat's whereabouts before starting up any machinery that could contain a cat.

I think you fill find much laughter with Eaton. Beware of dryers too. I've had cats crawl into them, usually with warm dry laundry I'm trying to hang up, not cold wet laundry.

I can just see him skidding across the table. Our guys do that going around the corner in the kitchen. I've seen the one run into the wall more than once. He's not the brightest crayon in the box but he's one of the funniest and sweetest.

Have fun with your learning curve on cat behavior. They keep you guessing.

Ha! They are indeed funny critters. I'm also someone who never really knew cats - until I started dating my husband that is and was introduced to his kitty. Now I've been living with her for 4yrs and she continues to crack me up. She woke me in the middle of the night last night by jumping into bed right where my face was and colliding w/ it - kinda rude but also made me giggle!

They love to jump in and take a nap if I leave the door open for any amount of time. Heads up for that one...since you have new ones, and yes, they will keep you laughing with their crazy antics!

Christmas Spirit

Friday, December 24, 2010

I have had the privilege of meeting a very talented young artist during the last few months. He and his bandmate are in the process of recording in Los Angeles with a grammy winning producer. I am so excited for him. He sings and plays keyboard. I thought that I would share this uplifting Christmas song, written and performed by Mister McKoy.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and may you feel the spirit of Christmas throughout the coming year!

For anyone who would want to venture out to my house this is what you would encounter upon entering my driveway.

For those of you who live in a warmer climate and want to experience the snow up close and personal, bring your 4-wheel drive, a snow shovel, a sled and warm clothes. Temperature is around zero degrees. I will have the cup of cocoa waiting for you!

    Hey, Jan!
It really wasn't too bad here early this morning and school was not cancelled - but it really changed as the afternoon progressed!
There's a nice young couple renting the other side of the duplex and he's shoveled my front walk and steps three times today! I thanked him and said to not worry about it - I'd go out through the garage if I needed to. He said (and I quote) "That's okay. My mom taught me to always help the elderly." I laughed and he turned bright red after realizing what he had said!
I have all-wheel drive and a snow shovel - but you're on your own!!!!
Stay warm!

Really cool pictures, with the falling snow in the foreground. We only have a couple of inches right now. I love the way the snow reflects the light and makes everything seem brighter, even at night. Not so much of a fan of when it gets all dirty and black along the roads and little Abby's paws are caked with platform shoes of snow and her undercarriage is full of snowballs! I've had you on my mind but between deadlines to meet and a bad cold, have been less able to spend time on the computer. I thought of you on Thanksgiving, and I realize that this year of "firsts" without your husband on holidays and occasions will be especially hard. Let McGee give you extra kisses and snuggles for me, okay?
