New Year's Day, Continuing last year's resolutions!

On New Year's Day, I am going to measure and weigh myself and put it down in the correct area. I am going to take a picture of myself at the start of this new year. I am going to change my yearly exercise goal to 60 minutes a day (I am very close to this now) and make my goal weight for the year 174 pounds. That is the weight I must reach to no longer be obese!
This year I have gone from morbidly obese to obese and lost 10% of my weight.
I have gone from 15 minutes of exercise to 60 daily, most days.
I walk a mile a day with my dog on most days, do aquacize 3 to 4 times a week. I am going to a physiotherapist to strengthen my pelvic floor and abdomen (more about this fantastic thing in my next blog.)
Next year I plan to buy a bike and walk even more. Maybe try Zumba and return to Tai Chi on Monday nights.
Continue getting control of my food intake, the hardest part by far. Though I have come down about 500 calories a day and am no longer gaining weight, but losing. I hope to work on the Eat Clean diet and my diabetes diet more strictly.

Plateau

I have been on a plateau for a long time, really several months. I move between 25 and 29 pounds lost. Still a great start, losing 25 to 29 pounds this year, but more needs to be done. So I am working on the plateau section of Spark Coach. I haven't paid yet, but it looks like no more than 48 dollars for the year and considering the thousands of dollars I have spent on weigh loss over the years with no results unlike Spark People, I'd say giving a few Christmas bucks is fine.
My New Year's resolution? Lose 30 pounds in 2013. Not unreasonable and certainly better than gaining 30 pounds back which is what used to happen! I Am Resolved!

    Sounds like a good plan. I was, oh I guess I am still on a plateau. But I have lost 17 pounds which is a lot better than gaining weight all those years. Good luck with Spark Coach.

Confronting Christmas

My grown daughter told me she loved Christmas this year. Must have been all the candy and cookies and stuffing and trifle and cake and fixings. Nope. She loved being with family and friends and Skype with friends and family far away.
I am confronting Christmas. A nine pound gain and high sugar. Do I need to do all that baking, do I need to go to so many events that I don't have time to exercise?
This year I gave little notes and cards to people instead of the plate of baked goods. I gave the Mayor's office flowers. Everyone was more delighted than they ever had been at yet another plate of cookies.
The Christmas Yule Log is long gone at our house but the bars and cookies, gluten-free or otherwise, can be cut next year. Do I need a trifle to feed fifty that now sits melting in my fridge with the current members of the household not supposed to eat it due to diabetes and vegetarianism. All the chocolate has made me sick. The turkey is fine but do I really need to make that much stuffing.
Next year, I will retool Christmas.
The emphasis: friends and family, not the food.

    Reflecting and reality are great tools. Write down your specifics now so you don't forget them. . . . even the little things. Cos a whole lot of little things probably add more stress than a couple of big things. You can do it!!! And I highly recommend it because that's what we decided last Christmas. And we made it happen it this year . We actually had a stress-free Christmas. We ate very well, yummy, healthy food but no over-doing it. It was awesome . . . .and I'm still on track with my weight loss . . . am actually down half a pound this morning.

Grab Life!

My friend is dying of cancer. She is fighting the good fight but this rare form can't be beaten. I, on the other hand, at this point in time, have diseases that I can easily beat. Diabetes and high blood pressure.
All I have to do is keep eating right and exercising as I lose weight. No chemo, no pain, no sadness.
Last night my friend came to our book club for what may be the last time. You may remember my blog where at the last book club I despaired at still looking fat. This time everyone noticed my weight loss and marveled and several others of us had lost weight in a good way. But a cloud hung over us for our friend we love.
We must celebrate each day!
It is a beautiful day here at my house. The dog and I are out for our walk in the woods and on the trails.
Thank God for Blessing me with returned good health and may he Bless us all on our journey.

    Wow, that is a moving blog if I do say so myself. Good news, my friend has been given an improved diagnosis. The doctor said "See you in June". emoticon There have been a lot of people praying for her. She looked so much better at our Christmas party. One day at a time!!!

    Sorry your friend has cancer. What a nasty disease. It does help one put things in perspective. I hope your friend can find some peace with her situation. I will pray for her family and friends. Celebrate with her while you can.

Meeting Food Horror

This morning I went to swimming lessons and learned again how to do the crawl. Then aquacize and walking the dog. My snack a banana and peanut butter, breakfast great.
I walk into my lunch meeting and what are they serving?

Ceasar salad. Lasagna, veggie and meat, and bread covered with cheese and I do mean covered.
Not to mention squares for dessert, no fruit.
Basically I could have the diet coke.

Some of the people who attend this regular meeting are diabetics like me or they have had heart problems or they are just in the getting old danger zone. Why? why? why?

I have talked to the executive assistant before but I can see she just doesn't get it. And for many of the people, like it once was for me, this was popular.

So I had a small serving of veggie lasagna. Then was so hungry by supper that I had a *eek* mall meal --- blackened chicken, two veg and rice. I am still in my calorie range.

Yesterday, similiar deal, in that the meeting meal at a totally different place and meeting had a lot of nice cooked veggie salads. This morning my sugar was high. Realized it was the salads!
Yes they must have been full of sugar.

So I plod along, working it out. I'm going to a conference for a few days. Used to be I was all, "Free food and drinks!!" Now I just look to see if the seminar or hospitality suite will have people I need to network with, good change. I'm going to take some healthy snacks with me.

    All the cool kids are packing lunch in Bento boxes :)
We should go and check out the shop in Kitchener that sells them (fenigo.com). There's a great website that shows packing and what to put in your box. (justbento.com)

It's so not fair that they keep sneaking potato salad into your meals :)

    It is sad that so many times meals provided at meetings, conferences, and other work-related events are so woefully unhealthy. At our school, we are not allowed to give a child a piece of candy BUT at lunch they serve a hamburger on a bun, macaroni and cheese, corn, fruit of some sort, a slice of bread, and milk. What kind of a meal is THAT and what makes that so much better for our students than a 15 calorie peppermint?

    It is very difficult when meals are provided in meetings. And our staff meetings are ENDLESS and work through lunch. I try to plan ahead as much as possible and bring a brown bag (which is totally acceptable in my work place) -- but it certainly limits food options!
