Walked in my first

I actually walked 3 km (2 miles) in my first "race" ever yesterday, the practice run for Run for the Toad. Lots of hills! I was sweaty at the end but did it. Now I have signed up for the actual walking part of the "Run for the Toad" . It is 25 km but I am aiming for a single round of 12.5 km. I can't believe I am actually doing this. Got out the eating clean book because it will be better with some weight off.
this is the first time I am getting in shape not for medical reasons or "to lose weight". Amazing
Wow me.

Update to 10 years ahead

A member of my church told me this morning that she wil be 70 in a few weeks. She is my goal person. She is in great shape, full of good humor and hikes 10 km every weekend. Yes!

10 years ahead

Next week I turn 60. I'm having a party and I have no bones about telling people I'm 60. Because 10 years ago, it looked like I wouldn't make it. In the last 10 years all my eating and no exercising sins caught up with me. High blood pressure, diabetes, sore hip and knees, asthma, insomnia, incontinence what a dreary list obesity presented me with.
But now I've lost 20 pounds and I exercise for 40 to 60 minutes a day. My goal, 20 more pounds gone this year by staying in my calorie zone and exercising.
My blood pressure isn't perfect but it is down, my sugar excellent for 6 months. Knees painfree, sleeping better, and I can go up and down stairs and bend over with no problem.
Still working on that painful hip and getting up off the floor, but Woo Hoo.
So how will things be in 10 years?
At my goal weight, will have walked in a 26 kilometer walk, still exercising because walking and aquacise are for any age. No incontinence as I continue my exercises. Good blood pressure and sugar, no asthma, sleeping quite well. I will be retired and my books published. Continuing with volunteer work, traveling, writing and being with my friends. Playing with my many grandchildren.
Looking forward to the next 10 years.

    Well said.....your positive attitude should be an inspiration for so many. I will be turning 67 this May and feel like I am 57 now that I have lost some weight and exercise regularly.....Here's to a happy and healthy next 10 years. emoticon

Woo hoo lost two pounds!

This week I lost two pounds. How did I do it? For me jumping on the scale is misery or joy or just a great big addiction. This week I put it under the bed and I didn't get on it from Sunday to Sunday. That's right, I weighed myself once a week.
Exercising has become a routine and instead of emphasizing the scale, I have decided to get eating well within my calorie range as automatic as exercising is. I found the spark calendar under the pounds lost reporter on the left side of my home page. It gives me a gold star each time I stay in my calorie range. This week I got two gold stars. (The other days were too high by about two hundred calories but I did exercise a lot). Next week, I will work at 4 gold stars instead of jumping on the scale.
Overall? I'm having a great lifestyle, eating properly and exercising. Sugar down, easier to move.

Why I want to lose weight.

It's winter and the weight is not coming off. I know why but can't seem to kick the bad habits.
On Sparkcoach today, I was asked in the video to think about why I want to lose weight.
Well it's not to look good, though that is a great benefit.
1. I am turning 60 in a month or two. I want an active old age and I must say that the 20 pounds gone and the exercise are working on that score.
2. I want to live longer to play with my grandchildren and watch them grow up.
3. I'm not done yet with my goals,whether writing or travelling or politics
4. I want to enjoy life and getting less pain in my back and hip would be the same bonus that not having my knees hurt now gives me.

  Could you make some small swap to help your body? make sure you are trying different exercises that challenge you as your body can get used to the same thing regularily.
I think these are great goals. You can do this. Remember to be gentle with yourself and show yourself the same grace you would to your best friend.
